        This study investigated the relationship between self-esteem, perceived competence and participation of masters swimming. Participants(N=322) were randomly selected from masters swimming program of swimming pool in seoul and Kyung-Kee. Results indicated that the meaning significant found the representation of duration of contingencies and participation of swimming competition in masters swimming. In sum, firstly, in the participation of masters swimming, every time participation in swimming competition assigned greater than the other participant to perceived competence, and in duration of contingencies of participation, 4-7 years participation group assigned greater than the order participant group to perceived competence. Secondly, in the participation of masters swimming, every time participation in swimming competition assigned greater than the other participant to self-esteem, and in duration of contingencies of participation, 2-4 years participation group assigned greater than the participant group to self-esteem. Thirdly, in the participation of masters swimming, perceived competence is postitively influence on self-esteem.

        찰옥수수연구 XVIII 시설하우스에서 2기작 찰옥수수 교잡종의 주요 생육특성 비교

        The major characteristics of the developed corn hybrids were compared at each different planting time; 1st time(April 28) and 2nd time(August 20), respectively. Among traits surveyed, stem height showed highly at 1st time than 2nd, while ear height, stem diameter and ear length were similar at two times. Sugar content of the used hybrids showed highly at 2nd planting time than 1st. Pericarp thickness was also high at 2nd planting time. Especially, among hybrids CNU99 was the highest in stem height and ear length, CNU11 and CNU56 were high in sugar content, and CNU51 and CNU124 were thiner than other hybrids in pericarp thickness. Accordingly, these hybrids will be planted and recognized in 2nd yield trial for superior corn hybrid selection.

        Depressed CCL5 Expression in Human Pulmonary Tuberculosis

        CCL5/regulated on activation, normal T expressed and secreted production (RANTES) is a principal CC chemokine, and can activate macrophages and Th1 lymphocytes, however, little is known about the CCL5 profiles associated with active tuberculosis (TB). In this study, we investigated the production of CCL5 by the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients with active pulmonary TB after stimulation with Triton X-100 soluble proteins (TSP) or the 30-kDa antigen. The profiles of cytokines/chemokines [CXCL8/interleukin (IL)-8, IL-12 p40, and interferon (IFN)-$\gamma$] were also examined by PBMCs from TB patients, and compared with those obtained from healthy tuberculin reactors (HTR). Concordant with earlier studies, IFN-$\gamma$ production was significantly depressed in the PBMCs from TB patients compared with those from HTR. In addition, the CCL5, but not CXCL8, levels in the PBMCs from TB patients were significantly depressed after stimulation for 18 hr compared to those in the PBMCs from HTRs. The CCL5 release was not significantly correlated with the release of IFN-$\gamma$ in the cells from TB patients and HTRs. Further, inhibitor studies show that the 30-kDa- or TSP-induced CCL5 mRNA expression is sensitive to inhibitors of mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK) 1/2 and Janus kinase (JAK) 2, but not p38, pathway activation, suggesting a MEK1/2- or JAK2-based mechanism is responsible for modulating of the CCL5 expression in human PBMCs. Collectively, these data suggest that TB patients show depressed production of CCL5 secretion, which can be modulated by MEK- and JAK2-based transcriptional regulatory mechanisms, in response to the mycobacterial antigens.

        $^{13}$C NMR Relaxation Study of Internal Rotation of Methyl Groups-Spin-Rotational Relaxation of methyl Carbon-13 in 2-bromo-p-xylene, 2,5-dimethylanisole and 2,5-dimethylaniline

        In this work we have investigated temperature dependence of spin-rotational relaxation rate, $(1/T_1)_{SR}$, of methyl carbon-13's in 2-bromo-p-xylene, 2,5-dimethylaniline, and 2,5-dimethylanisole and have found that temperature behaviors of two methyl carbon-13's in ortho- and meta-position, respectively, are substantially different. It has been confirmed that the modified Burke-Chan model proposed by Park et al. can nicely explain different temperature dependence of $(1/T_1)_{SR}$ for these two methyl carbon-13's while the original Burke-Chan model fails to do so.

      • Degradation and stability of polymer-based solar cells

        <P>Stability of polymer solar cells (PSCs) is critically important for PSCs to be commercialized. The performance deterioration of PSCs arises mainly from macrophase separation of the finely tuned nanoscale morphology of donor–acceptor blends, photo-degradation of active layer materials, and oxidative degradation of donor polymers due to diffusion of oxygen and water molecules from the interlayer/electrode.       • THE EFFICIENCY OF FERTILIZER NITROGEN AND PHOSPHORUS : APPLIED TO LOWLAND RICE AS AFFECTED BY PLACEMENT AND THEIR INTERACTION WITH THE USE OF ISOTOPES, ^15N AND ^32P

        國際原子力機構가 主管하는 第4年次 水稻施肥에 關한 國際的 共同硏究가 1965년에 12個國, 16個所에서 ^15N ^32P를 利用하여 窒素 및 燐?質肥料의 施容方法의 差異가 水稻의 肥料吸收利用率에 미치는 各各의 影響 및 이들 相互間의 交互作用을 밝히고자 實施된 바 그중 우리나라의 試驗結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. 1. 窒素質肥料(硫安)의 吸收利用率은 地中 5cm 깊이에 條施하는 경우 약 50%이며, 表面施用하는 것보다 약 10%程度 利用率이 높았다. 2. 硫安과 過石의 混合施用은 窒素의 吸收利用率에는 影響을 미치지 않았으나, 燐?의 吸收利用率에 대해서는 施用部位에 따라 多少間 交互作用을 보였다. 3. 水稻에 대한 隣酸質肥料의 效用은 他國에 比해 極히 낮았으며, 施肥方法에 있어서는 表面施用이 多少 肥效가 높았다. 4. 本試驗의 結果는 他國에서 이루어진 結果와 거의 비슷한 傾向을 보였으며, 大體로 外的 榮養生長量에는 顯著한 差異가 없었으나 水量에는 差異가 認定되고 이것은 同位元素分析結果와 거의 一致하였다. As a part of the fourth Coordinated Rice Fertilization Research Programme supervised by the Joint FAO/IAEA Division, a field experiment using ^15N and ^32P carried out in Korea in 1955 to determine the efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer applied to lowland rice as affected by placement, and their interaction. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Shallw placement of ammonium sulphate at 5cm depth was more efficient than placement on the surface with the about 10%higher utilization value. 2. The mixing of phosphorus with nitrogen had no effect on the uptake of nitrogen, whereas phosphorus uptake slightly interacted with the application method of nitrogen with phosphorus. 3. The response of the rice plant to the application method of superphosphate was very small comparing with that of other countries, but the efficiency of phosphorus can be increased to some extent by its broadcasting on the surface. 4. The results obtained in Korea were well consistent with that of other countries. However, dry matter production during vegetative growth could not be served as the criteria for the determination of fertilizer efficiency, especially for the phosphorus uptake. However, apparant differences in the fertilizer uptake could be observed through the isotopic analysis, and this analytical results were in harmony with the treatmental differences in grain yield. It may recall us the unique value of isotopic techniques.

        Spin-Rotational Relaxation of a Nuclear Spin on an Internal Rotor

        A magnetic nucleus located on an internal rotor can interact with magnetic fields arising from end-over-end molecular rotation as well as internal rotation. In this paper the expressions for spin-rotational relaxation times, $T_{1.SR}\;and\;T_{2.SR}$, are derived for such nucleus with the anisotropy of molecular rotation explicitly taken into consideration. The derived expressions are shown to be composed of two parts, the contribution from spin-overall-rotation coupling and that from spin-internal-rotation coupling. Some remarks on the use of derived expressions are also provided.

      • A Metabolic Phenotype Based on Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein Expression as a Predictor of Lymph Node Metastasis in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma

        <▼1><P>Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Metabolic reprogramming has been regarded as an essential component of malignant transformation. However, the clinical significance of metabolic heterogeneity remains poorly characterized.</P><P>The aim of this study was to characterize metabolic heterogeneity in thyroid cancers via the analysis of the expression of mitochondrial ribosomal proteins (MRPs) and genes involved in oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos), and investigate potential prognostic correlations.</P><P>Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) verified by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and gene network analysis was performed using public repository data. Cross-sectional observational study was conducted to classify papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) by the expression of MRP L44 (MRPL44) messenger RNA (mRNA), and to investigate the clinicopathological features.</P><P>GSEA clearly showed that the expression of OxPhos and MRP gene sets was significantly lower in primary thyroid cancer than in matched normal thyroid tissue. However, 8 of 49 primary thyroid tumors (16.3%) in the public repository did not show a reduction in OxPhos mRNA expression. Remarkably, strong positive correlations between MRPL44 expression and those of OxPhos and MRPs such as reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide dehydrogenase (ubiquinone) 1 α subcomplex, 5; succinate dehydrogenase complex, subunit D; cytochrome c, somatic; adenosine triphosphate synthase, H+ transporting, mitochondrial Fo complex, subunit C1 (subunit 9); and MRP S5 (MRPS5) (<I>P</I> < 0.0001) were clearly denoted, suggesting that MRPL44 is a representative marker of OxPhos and MRP expressions. In laboratory experiments, metabolic heterogeneity in oxygen consumption, extracellular acidification rates (ECARs), and amounts of OxPhos complexes were consistently observed in BCPAP, TPC1, HTH-7, and XTC.UC1 cell lines. In PTCs, metabolic phenotype according to OxPhos amount defined by expression of MRPL44 mRNA was significantly related to lymph node metastasis (LNM) (<I>P</I> < 0.001). Furthermore, multivariate analysis clearly indicated that expression of MRPL44 is associated with an increased risk of lateral neck LNM (odds ratio 9.267, 95% confidence interval 1.852–46.371, <I>P</I> = 0.007).</P><P>MRPL44 expression may be a representative marker of metabolic phenotype according to OxPhos amount and a useful predictor of LNM.</P></▼2>
