Risk of insomnia symptoms according to Work-Family Conflict by workers’ characteristics

Background: Work-Family Conflict means that the demands of work and family roles cannot be met simultaneously, so one cannot concentrate on one’s work or family role. This conflict can negatively affect mental health and cause insomnia symptoms. Methods: This study was conducted on 20,442 subjects. Insomnia symptoms were assessed using the Minimal Insomnia Symptom Scale, and other variables were assessed using the questionnaire method. Logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the effect of Work-Family Conflict on insomnia symptoms, and subgroup logistic regression analyses were also performed. Results: The number of people with insomnia symptoms was 4,322 (15.1%). Compared with Low Work-Family Conflict, the odds ratios (ORs) for the risk of insomnia symptoms were 1.84 (95% confidence interval: 1.56–2.16) in High work-to-family conflict, 1.16 (1.02–1.32) in High family-to-work conflict, and 3.19 (2.87–3.55) in High Work-Family Conflict. The ORs were higher for men than women in High WFC but higher for women than men in High Work-Family Conflict. Conclusions: The risk of insomnia symptoms was highest in High Work-Family Conflict.
A new method and device of aligning patient setup lasers in radiation therapy

<P>The aim of this study is to develop a new method to align the patient setup lasers in a radiation therapy treatment room and examine its validity and efficiency. The new laser alignment method is realized by a device composed of both a metallic base plate and a few acrylic transparent plates. Except one, every plate has either a crosshair line (CHL) or a single vertical line that is used for alignment. Two holders for radiochromic film insertion are prepared in the device to find a radiation isocenter. The right laser positions can be found optically by matching the shadows of all the CHLs in the gantry head and the device. The reproducibility, accuracy, and efficiency of laser alignment and the dependency on the position error of the light source were evaluated by comparing the means and the standard deviations of the measured laser positions. After the optical alignment of the lasers, the radiation isocenter was found by the gantry and collimator star shots, and then the lasers were translated parallel to the isocenter. In the laser position reproducibility test, the mean and standard deviation on the wall of treatment room were 32.3±0.93 mm for the new method whereas they were 33.4±1.49 mm for the conventional method. The mean alignment accuracy was 1.4 mm for the new method, and 2.1 mm for the conventional method on the walls. In the test of the dependency on the light source position error, the mean laser position was shifted just by a similar amount of the shift of the light source in the new method, but it was greatly magnified in the conventional method. In this study, a new laser alignment method was devised and evaluated successfully. 새만금 호내 수환경 측면에서 최적 관리수위에 대한 수치모의

새만금 방조제 준공 후 새만금 호내 수질에 대한 문제가 지속적으로 제기되어 왔다. 다양한 구조적인 대책이 수립되고 시행되었지만, 뚜렷한 수질 개선이 되지 않았다. 이에 본 연구에서는 수질 대책의 일환으로 관리수위 변화를 제시하였고, Delft3D를 통해 수질 개선 효과를 보고자 하였다. 새만금종합개발계획이 완료되는 시점에서의 수문 운영을 가정하여 재현하였으며, 현장 계측 자료 및 Delft3D 모의 조건을 고려하여 COD와 T-N을 수질에 대한 지표로 선택하였다. 분석결과 현행 관리수위(EL.(-)1.5m)보다 0.10 m 관리수위가 증가하였을 때, 수질적인 측면에서 최적의 결과가 나타났으며, 만경강 유역과 동진강 유역을 연결하는 연락수로가 오염물의 확산 측면에서 큰 역할을 수행하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. The Saemangeum Basin has been subjected to water quality issues following the construction of a seawall downstream of the Mangyeong River and Dongjin River. Various structural measures have been discussed, but none have been effective so far. In this study, the change in management water level was proposed as a countermeasure, and Delft3D was used to investigate the change in water quality according to the management water levels. Future operations, including the interruption of seawater inflow, were considered. Based on three assumptions for simulating the operation of the drainage gate, the condition of Saemangeum in 2030 when the Master plan is completed was modeled. COD and T-N were selected as the pollutant indicators. The boundary conditions and numerical analysis input data were obtained by integrating actual field data and operation logs. The numerical analysis showed that the water level was more advantageous for water quality when the water level was increased by 0.10m from the current management level of EL.(-)1.5m. It was also confirmed that contaminant diffusion in Mangyung and Dongjin was not actively progressing through the new connecting canal.

The finite element method is used to simulate propagation of laser-generated ultrasounds and interaction with surface breaking cracks in elastic media. The laser line source focused on the surface of semi-infinite medium is modeled as a transient thermal and elastic finite element using ANSYS code. The thermoelastic finite element model is found to produce correct behavior for generated longitudinal, shear and surface waves. The interaction of surface waves with surface breaking cracks (2-D machined slot) is examined when the laser source is scanned over defected samples. The scanning laser line source(SLLS) is found to cause a large amplitude change of reflected waves near crack, and the crack whose depth is one order lower than the wavelength can be detected from this change.
Comparison of three different surface plank exercises on core muscle activity

Objective: This study compared the muscle activities of the erector spinae (ES), the external oblique (EO), and the rectus abdominis (RA) on three different surfaces. The purpose of this study was to determine which surface induces the highest muscle activity during the plank exercises. The information from this study can be used to recommend plank exercises to athletes and patients with weak core muscles. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: The subjects include 20 adult males attending S University in Seoul. Participants completed each plank exercise on three different surfaces. To measure muscle activities, researchers used the values from electromyography. The measurement excluded the initial two and final two seconds and collected information on the RA, EO, and ES in each posture of each subject. Results: The left external oblique showed significant differences between the plank position on stable ground (ST) and the plank position using a suspension device (SL) (p<0.05) and between the plank position on the unstable ground (US) and SL (p<0.05). The right rectus abdominis and left rectus abdominis displayed statistically significant differences between the ST and the US (p<0.05) and between the ST and the SL (p<0.05). The right erector spinae had a statistically significant difference between ST and US (p<0.05). Conclusions: The plank exercise strengthens the core muscles effectively, and muscle activity is related to the posture of the exercise and the location of the muscle. These results suggest that plank exercises improve muscle activities. Additionally, plank exercises can be applied to general medical care.
