Laboratory and greenhouse experiments were conducted to assess the efficacy of Eucalyptus citriodora, 1pomoea carnea, Cuminum cyminum, Allium sativum and Hyoscyamus muticus leaf extracts, and Streptomyces exfloliatus (S) and Trichoderma harzianum (T) for controlling Botrytis fabae causing chocolate spot disease of faba bean. Laboratory study supported the use of E. citriodora (Ex 1) and I. carnea (Ex 2) extracts than the others for controlling the growth of B. fabae. S+T was the best for inhibiting spore germination followed by Ex 1 +Ex 2 after 8 h of testing, whereas Ex 1 +Ex 2 produced the lowest percent of germination after 16 h. After 4 days, the inhibiting order of the growth of B. fabae was S+T > Ex 1 +Ex 2 > T > Ex 2 > Ex 1= S. Greenhouse experiments showed the highest activities of peroxidase, catalase and pectinase in the infected plants. These activities were markedly reduced in healthy plants and widely changed by the biocontrol treatments. Applying biocontrol agents to the infected plants increased minerals (N, P, K and Mg), and both Chl biosynthesis and the photosynthetic activity, which in turn led to accumulation of metabolites. This served the plant to resist the detrimental effects of B. fabae on the plant growth and yield. In this concern, the efficiency of test biocontrol agents seemed to be in the order: T+S > Ex 1 +Ex 2 > T > S > Ex 2 > Ex.

In this study, photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO) as an example of organic dye was investigated using different wt% Pd-loaded and N-doped P-25 titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles, as example of metal and nonmetal-doped TiO2, respectively. The Pd-loaded and N-doped TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared by post-incorporation method using K2PdCl4 and urea, respectively, as precursors. A variety of surface analysis techniques were used for characterization of surface and functional group while using ultraviolet/visible (UV-vis) analysis for monitoring photocatalytic degradation of MO. Kinetic parameters were obtained using Langmuir-Hinshelwood model to determine the degradation rate constants. It was found that the metal-loaded titanium dioxide degraded MO in water at a higher rate than did non-metal-loaded titanium dioxide fabricated by using the post-synthesis method. Also, the pure P25-TiO2 degraded MO more than N-doped TiO2 because of decreased surface area by particle agglomeration after being made by the post-incorporation method.

Glasses with compositions xBi_2O_3―(75―x) B_2O_3―25Li_2O with, x=0, 5, 20, 25,30,35,40 mol % have been prepared using the normal melt quenching technique. The dielectric constant (έ) dielectric loss tangent tan δ, electric modulus behaviour was studied as a function of temperature in the frequency range 0.1―100 kHz. The detailed analysis of the results showed that the dielectric dispersion consists of both dipolar and interfacial polarization. Also the activation energy of the dielectric relaxation process from the electric modulus measurements was calcaulated. Measurements of the ac conductivity as a function of frequency at different temperatures indicated that the correlated barrier hopping (CBH) model is the most suitable mechanism for the ac conduction behaviour .The ac parameters, such as hopping distance (R, R_min), polaron binding energy (U_M) and Columbic barrier height (U_h) were calculated.

The heating property of LaB_6 and CeB_6 cathodes is investigated against the Back Bombardment (BB) effect in thermionic RF guns using numerical calculation of the stopping range and deposited heat power inside the cathode materials. Then the change in a cathode temperature and corresponding change of current density during 5.5 μs pulse duration are determined by solving two differential equations. The simulation results show that, the change of current density during the macropulse for LaB_6 two times higher than for CeB_6, hence, the effect of the BB electrons in CeB_6 is less than for LaB_6.

Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), UV/visible spectra and colour detection of pristine and cirradiated undoped and eosin-doped 70/30 (wt/wt%) PVA/glycogen has been measured. The kinetic parameters such as the activation energy, entropy, enthalpy and free energy for all investigated samples were determined using Coats–Redfern relation. The shift of Tg position towards lower temperatures with increasing c-doses reflect that the degradation process is the predominant one. The values of absorbance and optical parameters in UV/visible range for c-irradiated blend sample doped with eosin showed no significant variation with increasing c-doses. This reflects that the addition of eosin to 70/30 (wt/wt%) PVA/glycogen makes it more resistant to c-radiolysis. The calculated colour parameters such as L*, U*, V*, C*, hue and Ye were found to be dependent on addition of eosin and c-irradiation. In this study, halloysite nanoparticles-doped epoxy resin was synthesised using the casting method. The MH-300A density metre revealed that the density of the fabricated composites changed from 1.132 to 1.317 g/cm3 as the halloysite nanoparticle concentration increased. The Fourier transform infrared was recorded for the synthesised composites. Furthermore, the γ-ray shielding properties of the synthesised composites were evaluated using Monte Carlo simulation and a theoretical programme, XCOM. The linear attenuation coefficient of the epoxy resin increased by 43% (at γ-energy of 15 keV) and 14% (at γ-photon energy of 662 keV) when the concentration of the halloysite nanoparticles was increased from 0 wt% to 40 wt%, respectively.

Background: In Egypt, breast cancer is estimated to be the most common cancer among females. It is also a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Use of circulating cell-free DNA (ccf-DNA) as non-invasive biomarkers is a promising tool for diagnosis and follow-up of breast cancer (BC) patients. Objective: To assess the role of circulating cell free DNA (nuclear and mitochondrial) in diagnosing BC. Materials and Methods: Multiplex real time PCR was used to detect the level of ccf nuclear and mitochondrial DNA in the peripheral blood of 50 breast cancer patients together with 30 patients with benign lesions and 20 healthy controls. Laboratory investigations, histopathological staging and receptor studies were carried out for the cancer group. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to evaluate the performance of ccf-nDNA and mtDNA. Results: The levels of both nDNA and mtDNA in the cancer group were significantly higher in comparison to the benign and the healthy control group. There was a statistically significant association between nDNA and mtDNA levels and well established prognostic parameters; namely, histological grade, tumour stage, lymph node status andhormonal receptor status. Conclusions: Our data suggests that nuclear and mitochondrial ccf-DNA may be used as non-invasive biomarkers in BC.

Purpose: We aimed to assess the 30-day morbidity in patients undergoing combined insertion of penile prosthesis (PP) and artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) vs. PP and male sling (MS). Materials and Methods: The National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database was queried to identify patients who underwent placement of AUS or MS combined with PP. Patient demographics, postoperative morbidity including complications, readmission and reoperation rates were recorded. Student t-test and chi-square or Fischer’s exact test were used as appropriate. Results: Forty-one patients met selection criteria between 2010 and 2016. Overall, 26 patients received PP and AUS vs. 15 that received PP and MS. Average age was similar in both groups (64.8±6.6 years vs. 62.3±6.3 years, p=0.254). Diabetes mellitus was more prevalent in PP+MS group compared to AUS+PP group (46.7% vs. 11.5%, p=0.022). Average length of stay was higher in PP+AUS group compared to PP+MS group (2.2±0.6 days vs. 1.8±0.4 days, p=0.017). Postoperative morbidity was reported in four patients in PP+AUS group. No reported complications in PP+MS group. In PP+AUS group, complications included one patient who developed urinary tract infection, one developed surgical site infection, readmission in two for postoperative infection, and one return to the operating room. No reported prosthesis explantation or revision in either groups. Conclusions: Our results showed that 30-day morbidity was recorded in the PP+AUS group and none in the PP+MS group. The complication and readmission rates remain comparable to the previous reports in both groups.
Moments and Estimation From Progressively Censored Data of Half Logistic Distribution
Sultan, K.S.,Mahmoud, M.R.,Saleh, H.M. The Korean Reliability Society 2006 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.7 No.2
In this paper, we derive recurrence relations for the single and product moments of progressively Type-II right censored order statistics from half logistic distribution. Next, we derive the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the location and scale parameters of the half logistic distribution. In addition, we use the setup proposed by Balakrishnan and Aggarwala (2000) to compute the approximate best linear unbiased estimates (ABLUEs) of the location and scale parameters. Finally, we point out a simulation study to compare between the efficiency of the techniques considered for the estimation.
