A highly efficient computational discrimination among Streptococcal species of periodontitis patients using 16S rRNA amplicons

        Al-Dabbagh, Nebras N.,Hashim, Hayder O.,Al-Shuhaib, Mohammed Baqur S. The Microbiological Society of Korea 2019 미생물학회지 Vol.55 No.1

Due to the major role played by several species of Streptococcus in the etiology of periodontitis, it is important to assess the pattern of Streptococcus pathogenic pathways within the infected subgingival pockets using a bacterial specific 16S rRNA fragment. From the total of 50 patients with periodontitis included in the study, only 23 Streptococcal isolates were considered for further analyses, in which their 16S rRNA fragments were amplified and sequenced. Then, a comprehensive phylogenetic tree was constructed and in silico prediction was performed for the observed Streptococcal species. The phylogenetic analysis of the subgingival Streptococcal species revealed a high discrimination power of the 16S rRNA fragment to accurately identify three groups of Streptococcus on the species level, including S. salivarius (14 isolates), S. anginosus (5 isolates), and S. gordonii (4 isolates). The employment of state-of-art in silico tools indicated that each Streptococcal species group was characterized with particular transcription factors that bound exclusively with a different 16S rRNA-based secondary structure. In conclusion, the observed data of the present study provided in-depth insights into the mechanism of each Streptococcal species in its pathogenesis, which differ in each observed group, according to the differences in the 16S rRNA secondary structure it takes, and the consequent binding with its corresponding transcription factors. This study paves the way for further interventions of the in silico prediction, with the main conventional in vitro microbiota identification to present an interesting insight in terms of the gene expression pattern and the signaling pathway that each pathogenic species follows in the infected subgingival site.

Investigating the electrochemical windows of ionic liquids

        Maan Hayyan,Farouq S. Mjalli,Mohd Ali Hashim,Inas M. AlNashef,Tan Xue Mei 한국공업화학회 2013 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.19 No.1

The structure effect on the electrochemical windows (EWs) was studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 16 ionic liquids (ILs), consisting of various cations such as piperidinium, pyridinium, pyrrolidinium, phosphonium, morpholinium, ammonium, sulfonium and imidazolium, and anions including bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate, dicyanamide, trifluoroacetate and trifluoromethanesulfonate. It was found that all studied ILs have good EWs to be utilized as electrolytes in different electrochemical applications pertaining to industry. Furthermore, it was found that the structure of ILs affected the EW and both the cation and anion have important effect on the reductive and oxidative limits, respectively. The reductive limits of the studied ILs were found to follow the sequence of [P14,666]+ > [N112,1O2]+ > [HMPyrr]+ > [BMPyrr]+ > [EMIm]+ > [MOEMMor]+≈[MOPMPip]+ > [S222]+ > [BMPy]+≈[HPy]+≈ [HPPy]+. The oxidative limits were found to follow the sequence of [TFSI]ˉ > [TPTP]ˉ > [TfO]ˉ > [DCA]ˉ > [TFA]ˉ. 2012 The Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry. Published by Elsevier B.V. • Electronic structure, magnetic and structural properties of Ni doped ZnO nanoparticles

        Kumar, S.,Vats, P.,Gautam, S.,Gupta, V.P.,Verma, K.D.,Chae, K.H.,Hashim, Mohd.,Choi, H.K. Pergamon Press 2014 Materials research bulletin Vol.59 No.-

We report structural, magnetic and electronic structural properties of Ni doped ZnO nanoparticles prepared by auto-combustion method. The prepared nanoparticles were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy, and dc magnetization measurements. The XRD and HR-TEM results indicate that Ni doped ZnO nanoparticles have single phase nature with wurtzite lattice and exclude the presence of secondary phase. NEXAFS measurements performed at Ni L3,2-edges indicates that Ni ions are in +2 valence state and exclude the presence of Ni metal clusters. O K-edge NEXAFS spectra indicate an increase in oxygen vacancies with Ni-doping, while Zn L3,2-edge show the absence of Zn-vacancies. The magnetization measurements performed at room temperature shows that pure and Ni doped ZnO exhibits ferromagnetic behavior.

        ( Abu S. M. Arif ),( M. A. Hashim ),( R. A. Runa ),( E. H. Chowdhury ),( Md Siddiqur Rahman ),( Hee Jong Song ) 한국가축위생학회 2010 韓國家畜衛生學會誌 Vol.33 No.3

This study was conducted in the saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) for the occurrence of various surgical affections with their clinical management. During the period of January 2006 to June 2008, a total of 68 adult crocodiles were considered as reference population from the Reptiles Farm Ltd. at Bhaluka, Mymensingh. The occurrence of surgical affections of adult female (88.9%) was significantly (P?0.01) higher than male (11.1%). Prevalence of common surgical affections were wound: 72.2%, fibroma: 11.1% abscess: 5.6%, fracture: 5.6%, tail necrosis: 2.8%, myiasis: 2.8%. Wound was the highest among the affections. Among the identified wounds, biting wound was higher. In summer (57.7%) the occurrence of wound was higher compared to other seasons. In winter season (7.7%) the occurrence of abscess, myiasis, fibroma were higher compared to other seasons. Wounds and fibroma are the major surgical affections in salt water crocodile. The most common site of surgical affection was recorded in crocodile`s tail (30.6%). It was suggested that minimal stress, allowing constant and easy access to water, removal of roots of the tree in the basking land of crocodiles pen, basking land of the pen is better filling up by sand, clinical surgical managements are essential for better health and production.

      • Enhanced MPR Selection Strategy for Multicast OLSR

Matter, Safaa S.,Al Shaikhli, Imad F.,Hashim, Aisha H.A.,Ahmed, Abdelmoty M.,Khattab, Mahmoud M. International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2022 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.22 No.10

Wireless community networks (WCNs) are considered another form of ownership of internet protocol (IP) networks, where community members manage and own every piece of equipment in a decentralized way, and routing for traffic is done in a cooperative manner. However, the current routing protocols for WCNs suffer from stability and scalability issues. In this paper, an enhanced routing protocol is proposed based on the optimized link state routing (OLSR) protocol to meet the standards of efficiency in terms of stability and scalability. The proposed routing protocol is enhanced through two phases: multicasting expansion and multipoint relay (MPR) selection based on an analytical hierarchical process (AHP). The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed routing protocol outperforms the OLSR protocol in terms of network control overhead and packet delivery ratio by 18% and 1% respectively.

Relationship between 25-hydroxyvitamin D and metabolic syndrome among Jordanian adults

        Yousef S Khader,Anwar Batieha,Hashim Jaddou,Zahi Batieha,Mohammed El-Khateeb,Kamel Ajlouni 한국영양학회 2011 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.5 No.2

Evidence of the association between 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and metabolic syndrome (MeS) remains uncertain and incongruent. This study aimed to determine the association between 25(OH)D and MeS among Jordanian adults. A complex multistage sampling technique was used to select a national population-based household sample. The present report deals exclusively with adults aged > 18 years who had complete information on all components of MeS (n = 3,234). A structured questionnaire was used to collect all relevant information. Anthropometric, clinical, and laboratory measurements were obtained. MeS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) definition. Of the total, 42.0% had MeS and 31.7% had 25(OH)D < 30 ng/ml. In a stratified analysis, the prevalence of MeS did not differ significantly between subjects with low and normal 25(OH)D levels for men and women in all age groups. In the multivariate analysis, the odds of MeS were not significantly different between subjects with low and normal 25(OH)D levels (OR = 0.85, 95% CI: 0.70, 1.05, P-value = 0.133). The association between 25(OH)D and MeS remained non-significant when 25(OH)D was analyzed as a continuous variable (OR = 1.004, 95% CI; 1.000, 1.008, P = 0.057) and when analyzed based on quartiles. None of the individual components of MeS were significantly associated with 25(OH)D level. This study does not provide evidence to support the association between 25(OH)D level and MeS or its individual components. Prospective studies are necessary to better determine the roles of 25(OH)D levels in the etiology of MeS.

Prediction of unconfined compressive strength of pulverized fuel ash–cement–sand mixture

        Motamedi, S.,Song, K. I.,Hashim, R. Springer Verlag (Germany) 2015 Materials and Structures Vol.48 No.4

<P>Recently, ground improvement has become much more feasible. Chemical stabilization is a quick and affordable approach to enhancing soil characteristics. An important avenue of research is discovering alternative materials for use in soil enhancement. Pulverized fuel ash (PFA), which is a waste byproduct of coal power plants, has been shown to reduce the environmental risks and costs involved in construction. In this study, a series of unconfined compressive tests were performed for various mixtures of cement, PFA, and sand; the tests considered both the curing period and the optimum moisture content (OMC). In addition, multiple variable linear regression was used to analyze laboratory data in order to obtain an empirical relationship that can be used to predict the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of a PFA-cement-sand mixture. The accuracy of the model was verified using statistical indices. The first objective of this study was to assess the effects of PFA content on the UCS of the mixture. The second was to investigate the impact of the OMC on the UCS. The focal point of this study was its derivation of a relationship that can be used to estimate the UCS on the basis of existing variables. The results indicated that PFA can strengthen sand in terms of the UCS and that excessive PFA in a mixture may adversely affect the UCS of a medium. Therefore, a mixture must have an optimum proportion of compounds. The OMC plays a vital role in enhancing UCS. The UCS of different mixtures can be predicted with an acceptable level of accuracy by using the relationship derived in this study.</P>
