Psychometric Properties of the Hypomania Checklist-32 in Korean Patients with Mood Disorders

        Bo-Hyun Yoon,Jules Angst,Won-Myong Bahk,Hee Ryung Wang,Seung-Oh Bae,Moon Doo Kim,Young-Eun Jung,Kyung Joon Min,Hwang-Bin Lee,Seunghee Won,Jeongwan Hong,Myong Su Choi,Duk-In Jon,Young Sup Woo 대한정신약물학회 2017 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.15 No.4

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the validity of the Korean version of the Hypomania Checklist-32, second revision (HCL-32-R2) in mood disorder patients. Methods: A total of 454 patients who diagnosed as mood disorder according to Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders, clinician version (SCID-CV) (bipolar disorder [BD] I, n=190; BD-II, n=72; and major depressive disorder [MDD], n=192) completed the Korean module of the HCL-32-R2 (KHCL-32-R2). Results: The KHCL-32-R2 showed a three-factorial structure (eigenvalue >2) that accounted for 43.26% of the total variance. Factor 1 was labeled “active/elated” and included 16 items; factor 2, “irritable/distractible” and included 9 items; and factor 3 was labeled “risk-taking/indulging” and included 9 items. A score of 16 or more on the KHCL-32-R2 total scale score distinguished between BD and MDD, which yielded a sensitivity of 70% and a specificity of 70%. MDD and BD-II also could be differentiated at a cut-off of 15 with maximized sensitivity (0.67) and specificity (0.66). Cronbach’s alpha of KHCL-32-R2 and its subsets (factors 1, 2, and 3) were 0.91, 0.89, 0.81 and 0.79, respectively. Correlations between KHCL-32-R2 and Montgomery- Asberg Depression Rating Scale, Young Mania Rating Scale and Korean version of Mood Disorder Questionnaire were −0.66 ( p =0.41), −0.14 ( p =0.9), and 0.61 ( p <0.001), respectively. Conclusion: The KHCL-32-R2 may be a useful tool in distinguishing between bipolar and depressive patients in clinical settings.

Hypolipidemic and Antioxidant Effects of Malus toringoides (Rehd.) Hughes Leaves in High-Fat-Diet-Induced Hyperlipidemic Rats

        Shan Huang,Haifeng Liu,Ning Meng,Bin Li,Jule Wang 한국식품영양과학회 2017 Journal of medicinal food Vol.20 No.3

Malus toringoides (Rehd.) Hughes (MT) leaves are traditionally used as a medicine for treating or preventing cardiovascular disease in Tibet. In addition to the effect of this medicinal plant on thrombosis, we tested its effect on dyslipidemia in a hypolipidemic rat model. A total of 60 healthy Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into six groups, as follows: normal control, model control, simvastatin groups, and MT low-, medium-, and high-dose groups. The normal controls were fed with a normal diet, whereas all other groups were fed with a high-fat diet. After 6 weeks, the high-fat diet had induced hyperlipidemia in the rats, which were then orally administered with different doses of MT leaf extract (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg) for an additional 6 weeks. Serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low- and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c and HDL-c, respectively), as well as the antioxidant capacity of glutathione peroxidase (GSHP-x), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured at the end of the study. MT significantly reduced serum TC, TG, and LDL-c and increased the HDL-c content in MT-treated rats compared with the model group. These changes were dose dependent. MT treatment also significantly elevated the activity of SOD and GSHP-x, and decreased the serum levels of MDA compared with untreated hyperlipidemic rats, thereby increasing serum antioxidant capacity. In addition, MT reduced liver steatosis in hyperlipidemic rats. Overall, MT exerts considerable hypolipidemic and antioxidant properties.

Degradation of ultrahigh concentration pollutant by Fe/Cu bimetallic system at high operating temperature

        Bo Lai,Qingqing Ji,Yue Yuan,Donghai Yuan,Yuexi Zhou,Juling Wang 한국화학공학회 2016 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.33 No.1

To investigate the degradation of high concentration pollutant by Fe/Cu bimetallic system at a high operating temperature, 10,000mg/L acid orange 7 (AO7) aqueous solution was treated by Fe/Cu bimetallic system at 80 oC. First, the effect of the operating temperature (30-80 oC) on the reactivity of Fe/Cu bimetallic particles was investigated thoroughly. Then, the studies on the effect of theoretical Cu mass loading, Fe/Cu dosage, stirring speed and initial pH on the reactivity of Fe/Cu bimetallic particles at a high temperature (i.e., 80 oC) were carried out, respectively. The degradation and transformation process of AO7 was studied by using COD, TOC and UV-Vis spectra. The results indicate that high concentration pollutant could be removed effectively by Fe/Cu bimetallic system at a high operating temperature. And the removal efficiencies of AO7 by Fe/Cu bimetallic system were in accordance with the pseudofirst- order model. Finally, it was observed that the high temperature could accelerate mass transport rate and overcome the high activation energy barrier to significantly improve the reactivity of Fe/Cu bimetallic particles. Therefore, the higher removal efficiency could be obtained by Fe/Cu system at a high operating temperature. Thus, the high operating temperature played a leading role in the degradation of high concentration pollutant.
