        글로벌 텔레비전 장르의 지역적 생산과 변용 : 한국의 시트콤의 사례를 중심으로

        이른바 지구화(globalization)가 진행되면서 나타난 대표적인 현상은 프로그램 자체의 세계적 유통뿐만 아니라 특정 서사양식, 즉 특정 형식이나 포맷의 전 세계적인 파급이다. 그러나 이러한 글로벌 포맷의 전 지구적 파급이 모든 나라에서 원래의 모습을 꼭 그대로 재현한다는 것을 의미하는 것은 아니다. 미국 흑은 서구의 양식이 무조건적으로 받아 들여 지는 것이 아니라 그 지역의 문화적 · 역사적 상황에 따라 재 정의될 수 있는 것이다. 이러한 맥락에서 본 연구는 대표적인 글로벌 텔레비전 포맷의 하나인 시트콤이 한국에서 어떻게 하나의 장르로서 형성, 발전되고 있는가를 고찰하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 본 연구는 두 가지 차원에서 이에 접근하고자 하였다. 하나는 거시적인 틀에서 한국 시트콤의 형성과 그 추세를 사회문화적인 차원에서 고찰하였다. 한국의 시트콤은 1990년대 새로운 방송체제의 도입과 그에 따른 경쟁구도의 전략상품으로 출발하였는데, 독특한 정형성과 구조 속에서 가볍고 신선한 웃음을 구사하는 시트콤의 표현적 특성은 신세대라는 새로운 수용자층의 문화적 취향과 욕구를 충족시키는데 적합한 장르로서 인식되었던 것으로 여겨진다. 다른 하나는 구체적인 사례분석으로 동일한 원형을 갖는 한국 시트콤 〈연인들〉과 미국 시트콤 〈프렌즈〉(Friends)를 대상으로 그 서사전략과 구성 체계를 비교, 고찰하였다. 그 결과 한국 시트콤은 미국 시트콤의 기본적인 문법을 많은 부분 답습하면서도 한국 드라마의 제작환경과 수용정서에 따라 전통 드라마의 고유한 컨벤션과 결합하여 한국적 시트콤의 한 모델을 시도하는 모습을 보였다. 하지만 형식상의 다양한 변형에 비해 시트콤 고유의 내용적 충실도는 여전히 한계를 보이고 있는 것으로 여겨진다. The purpose of this paper is to study the cultural formation of sitcom, which is one of the western-originated global television narratives, as a genre in Korea. Through the emergence of sitcom in Korea, how a local cultural product has carried on the globalization of culture. This paper tries to examine the Korean sitcom in two ways. One is macro-level analysis, which investigates the formation of Korean sitcom and its trends in sociocultural aspects. Another is micro-level analysis, which aims at the comparative study between Korean sitcom and American sitcom in its narrative proximities and differences. It is found that Korean sitcom has blended the original convention of American sitcom with the convention of Korean drama to create its own genre.

        Clinical Effect of Transverse Process Hook with K-Means Clustering-Based Stratification of Computed Tomography Hounsfield Unit at Upper Instrumented Vertebra Level in Adult Spinal Deformity Patients

        Objective : This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of transverse process (TP) hook system at the upper instrumented vertebra (UIV) for preventing screw pullout in adult spinal deformity surgery using the pedicle Hounsfield unit (HU) stratification based on K-means clustering. Methods : We retrospectively reviewed 74 patients who underwent deformity correction surgery between 2011 and 2020 and were followed up for >12 months. Pre- and post-operative data were used to determine the incidence of screw pullout, UIV TP hook implementation, vertebral body HU, pedicle HU, and patient outcomes. Data was then statistically analyzed for assessment of efficacy and risk prediction using stratified HU at UIV level alongside the effect of the TP hook system. Results : The screw pullout rate was 36.4% (27/74). Perioperative radiographic parameters were not significantly different between the pullout and non-pullout groups. The vertebral body HU and pedicle HU were significantly lower in the pullout group. K-means clustering stratified the vertebral body HU ≥205.3, <137.2, and pedicle HU ≥243.43, <156.03. The pullout rate significantly decreases in patients receiving the hook system when the pedicle HU was from ≥156.03 to < 243.43 (p<0.05), but the difference was not statistically significant in the vertebra HU stratified groups and when pedicle HU was ≥243.43 or <156.03. The postoperative clinical outcomes improved significantly with the implementation of the hook system. Conclusion : The UIV hook provides better clinical outcomes and can be considered a preventative strategy for screw-pullout in the certain pedicle HU range.

        Methanol Extract of Cassia mimosoides var. nomame Attenuates Myocardial Injury by Inhibition of Apoptosis in a Rat Model of Ischemia-Reperfusion

        Interruption of blood flow through coronary arteries and its subsequent restoration triggers the generation of a burst of reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to myocardial cell death. In this study, we determined whether a methanol extract of Cassia mimosoides var. nomame Makino could prevent myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. When radical scavenging activity of the extract was measured in vitro using its α,α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical quenching ability, the extract showed an activity slightly lower than that of ascorbic acid. Three days after oral administration of the extract (400 ㎎/㎏/day) to rats, myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury was generated by 30 min of ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD), followed by 3 hr reperfusion. Compared with the vehicle-treated group, administration of the extract significantly reduced infarct size (IS) (ratio of infarct area to area at risk) in the extract-treated group by 28.3%. Reduction in the cellular injury was mediated by attenuation of Bax/Bcl-2 ratio by 33.3%, inhibition of caspase-3 activation from procaspase-3 by 40%, and subsequent reduction in the number of apoptotic cells by 66.3%. These results suggest that the extract attenuates myocardial injury in a rat model of ischemia-reperfusion by scavenging ROS, including free radicals, and consequently blocking apoptotic cascades. Therefore, intake of Cassia mimosoides var. nomame Makino might be beneficial for preventing ischemic myocardial injury.

      • Selection of Anbaek as a Korean wheat variety to prevent myocardial infarction

        Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is one of the most consumed cereals worldwide. In our previous study, we prepared dried, hot water extract of ground grains (WWE) of Kumkang, a Korean wheat variety, and showed that oral administration of the WWE(4 g/kg/day, equivalent to approximately 40 g/day for 60 kg person) reduced myocardial injury in a rat model of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion. In addition, we also identified arabinoxylan(AX), the major cell wall polysaccharide in wheat, as an active constituent. As intake of 40 g/day of WWE for a person is hard to achieve, in this study, we tried to select a Korean wheat variety that shows the efficacy at lower WWE dose. We tested three Korean varieties (Anzunbaengi, Anbaek, and Goso), which were chosen based on AX content and significance in cultivation. We found that Anbaek WWE showed maximum efficacy at the lowest dose (63 mg/kg/day for rats, equivalent to approximately 0.6 g/day of WWE for 60 kg person). As Intake of 1 g/day of WWE for a person is suitable for human consumption, we recommend to consuming Anbaek for preventing myocardial infarction. We also found that Anbaek contains higher level of water-extractable AX(WE-AX), indicating that there is inverse correlation between level of WEAX, an active constituent, and a dose to show maximum efficacy.         Hot Water Extract of Wheat Bran Attenuates White Matter Injury in a Rat Model of Vascular Dementia

        Vascular dementia is characterized by white matter lesions involving the demyelination and activation of astrocytes and microglia. In a previous study, we showed that the supernatant of a laboratory-scale, hot water extract of ground whole wheat (TALE) attenuated white matter injury and astrocytic activation in a rat model of bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (BCCAO). In the present study, we made several modifications to the hot water extraction process to remove starch and enable large-scale production. We used wheat bran (WB), which contains less starch, instead of ground whole wheat. In addition, we removed starch granules with a decanter before hot water extraction. The final product, wheat bran extract (WBE), contained 2.42% arabinose, a surrogate marker of arabinoxylan, which is an active constituent of WBE. Supplementation of the rat model of BCCAO with WBE (400 mg/kg/day) for 33 days attenuated white matter injury, which was assessed by Luxol Fast Blue staining, in the corpus callosum (cc) and optic tract (opt) regions. Attenuation of white matter injury in the opt region was accompanied by improvement of the pupillary light reflex. Immunochemical staining revealed that supplementation with WBE reduced astrocytic activation in the cc and opt regions and reduced microglial activation in the opt region. These findings indicate that supplementation with WBE is effective at attenuating white matter injury accompanied by the inhibition of astrocytic and microglial activation. Therefore, extracts from WB, a cheap by-product of wheat milling, can be developed as a nutraceutical to prevent vascular dementia, a disease for which there is no approved pharmaceutical treatment.

        In Vivo Antihepatotoxic Effects of Ligularia fischeri var. spiciformis and the Identification of the Active Component, 3,4-Dicaffeoylquinic Acid

        Pretreatment with a methanolic extract of Ligularia fischerivar. spiciformis(Compositae) herb inhibited he-patotoxicities caused by CCl4, D-galactosamine (GalN), .-naphthylisothiocyanate (ANIT), and DL-ethionine in rats. An ethylacetate (EtOAc) extract fractionated from the methanolic extract showed a strong inhibitory effect. A major component, 3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid (DCQA), isolated from the methanolic extract was examined for antihepatotoxicity. Pretreatment withDCQA (5 and 10 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly reduced serum aminotransferases (alanine and aspartate), sorbitol dehydrogenase,.-glutamyltransferase, alkaline phosphatase, and lactate dehydrogenase activities during CCl4- or GalN-induced hepatotoxic-ity, suggesting that DCQA is a major principle for the antihepatotoxic activity of L. fischerivar. spiciformis. DCQA also par-tially restored bile flow and reduced total bilirubin and cholic acid concentrations in rats with ANIT-induced cholestasis. Treat-ment with DCQA inhibited the increase in triglyceride, cholesterol, and total lipids in DL-ethionine-induced fatty liver. Theseresults support the traditionally held belief that this plant can be used for the treatment of jaundice and hepatic failure.
