        Testosterone Relaxes Rabbit Seminal Vesicle by Calcium Channel Inhibition

        Recent studies have documented that testosterone relaxes several smooth muscles by modulating K<sup>+</sup> channel activities. Smooth muscles of seminal vesicles play a fundamental role in ejaculation, which might involve testosterone. This study was aimed to assess the role of testosterone in seminal vesicular motility by studying its effects on contractile agents and on the ion channels of single vesicular myocytes in a rabbit model. The contractile responses of circular smooth muscle strips of rabbit seminal vesicles to norepinephrine (10ՌM), a high concentration of KCl (70 mM), and testosterone (10ՌM) were observed. Single vesicular myocytes of rabbit were isolated using proteolytic enzymes including collagenase and papain. Inside-out, attached, and whole-cell configurations were examined using the patch clamp technique. The applications of 10ՌM norepinephrine or 70 mM KCl induced tonic contractions, and 10ՌM testosterone (pharmacological concentration) evoked dose-dependent relaxations of these precontracted strips. Various K<sup>+</sup> channel blockers, such as tetraethylammonium (TEA; 10 mM), iberiotoxin (0.1ՌM), 4-aminopyridine (4-AP, 10ՌM), or glibenclamide (10ՌM) rarely affected these relaxations. Single channel data (of inside-out and attached configurations) of BK channel activity were also hardly affected by testosterone (10ՌM). On the other hand, however, testosterone reduced L-type Ca<sup>2+</sup> currents significantly, and found to induce acute relaxation of seminal vesicular smooth muscle and this was mediated, at least in part, by Ca<sup>2+</sup> current inhibition in rabbit.

        Cerebral primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) is a neoplasm of children and young individuals that occurs predominantly in the supratentorial compartment. It is a diagnosed as a genetic term for cerebellar medulloblastomas and for neoplasm which are morphologically indistinguishable from the medulloblastoma but are located at other sites in the CNS. In this report, we retrospectively reviewed and analyzed 7CT and 2 MR findings in 7 patients with pathologically-proven PNET or radiologically characteristic PNET findings. The most characteristic features of the PNETs was a well-defined oval or round large mass with/without intratumoral calcification and hemorrhage in the cerebral hemisphere, especially in the parietal and frontal lobe. There was only minimal surrounding edema. The CT and MR findings demonstrated solid portion and cystic area but mainly enhanced in the solid portion.

        국내의 경우 현재 연결로 접속부의 서비스수준 분석은 2005년에 제정된 우리나라의 도로용량편람(KHCM)에서 제시하고 있는 영향권 내 밀도를 효과척도로 하여 분석하고 있다. 국내의 경우 현재 연결로 접속부의 서비스수준 분석은 2005년에 개정된 KHCM에서 제시하고 있는 영향권 내 밀도를 효과척도로 하여 분석하고 있다. KHCM의 영향권 내 밀도추정모형은 고속도로만을 대상으로 구축된 것으로 도시고속도로와는 특성의 차이가 상당하여 KHCM에서 제시한 모형을 도시고속도로에 적용하는데 검증이 필요한 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 이 연구의 목적은 고속도로와는 다른 특성을 가진 도시고속도로상의 유입연결로 합류영향권내 실시간 교통특성 자료를 바탕으로 연결로 접속부의 서비스수준 평가를 위한 효과척도인 영향권 내 밀도를 보다 정확하게 추정하는 분석모델을 개발하고 2005년의 KHCM모형과 더불어 2000년에 개정된 미국의 도로용량편람(USHCM)에서 제시하고 있는 모형을 도시고속도로(번영로)에 적용하여 그 타당성을 검토하는데 있다. Density is used as the measure of effectiveness within the ramp junction influence area suggested in the KHCM 2005 in the LOS analysis of the ramp junction, and also density predictive models suggested in the KHCM 2005 is constructed based on the expressway with the speed limit of 100㎞/h or 110㎞/h in Korea. So, the density predictive models suggested in the KHCM 2005 are needed to verify if the models could be applied to the urban freeway with the speed limit of 80㎞/h or less, because the speed limits on most of the urban freeways in Korea are 80㎞/h or less. The purpose in this study is to construct and verify the appropriate density predictive model within the on-ramp merge influence area of the urban freeway by comparing with the USHCM 2000 and KHCM 2005 models.

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We explored the effects of media and clonal variation on the lactate shift which can be considered as one of the desirable features in CHO cell culture. Various culture profiles with the specific growth and antibody production rates under three different media conditions in two CHO producing clones were evaluated by resorting to multivariate statistical analysis. In most cases, glutamine depletion coincided with lactate consumption, suggesting that glutaminolysis rather than glycolysis was the preferred pathway for the pyruvate supply toward lactate production. With respect to the lactate shift, high performing medium showed higher glutamate uptake, higher aspartate secretion and lower serine uptake compared to other media conditions. In addition, clone itself exhibited the desired lactate consumption more consistently accompanying with distinguishing phenotype. The clone exhibiting lactate shift produced lesser lactate in exponential phase but two-fold higher non-toxic alanine, thus leading to better culture environment. Thus, we understand the balanced selection of clone and media composition enables cells to utilize the metabolic pathways for the desired lactate shift.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Explored the effects of media and clonal variation on the lactate shift in CHO cells. </LI> <LI> Conducted multivariate statistical analysis of various CHO cell cultures. </LI> <LI> Found glutaminolysis as preferred pathway for lactate production by pyruvate supply. </LI> <LI> Understood the balanced selection of clone and media composition for lactate shift. </LI> </UL> </P>

        두개인두종은 소아에서는 전형적으로 안상병번 (suprasellar lesion)으로서 관찰되나 성인에서는 비전형적인 위치에서 자주 관찰된다. 조직학적으로는 크게 에나멜 형 (adamantinous type)과 인유두형(squamous papillary type)으로 구분되며 같은 에나멜형 일지라도 소아와 성인간에 조직학적 차이가 다소 있고 인유두형은 소아연령에서는 거의 발견되지 않는다. 이러한 병리조직학적 관점에서 볼 때 이들간의 방사선학적 검사소견의 차이를 이해할 수 있으며 정확한 진단과 예후판정에 도움을 줄 수 있으리라 생각한다. 저자들은 남자 성인의 사상하부에서 발생한 인유두형의 두개인두종 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

        원통형 무한 배열 구조와 원통형 유한 배열 구조의 전파 특성 비교

        곡면 위상 배열 안테나나 곡면 주파수 선택 구조 등의 전파 특성을 해석하기 위해서는 원통형 배열 구조의 효율적인 해석방법에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 원통형 배열 구조가 실제 적용되는 구조는 유한 배열 구조지만, 대부분 전자기 해석은 무한 배열 구조라 가정하므로 실제 구조의 특성과 근사화한 구조의 특성 간의 오차가 발생하게 된다. 따라서 원통형 무한배열 구조와 유한 배열 구조의 전파 특성의 비교와 분석이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 원통형 무한 배열 구조를 해석하기 위해 원통형 Floquet harmonics 해석 방법을 적용하였으며, 원통형 유한 배열 구조를 해석하기 위해서는 너비가 좁은 스트립(strip)이 배열된 배열 구조를 가정하여 thin wire approximation을 적용한 method of moments(MoM)를 이용하였다. 본 논문에서는 원통형 유한 배열 구조와 무한 배열 구조의 전파 특성을 비교하기 위하여 투과 특성과 전류 분포를 계산하였다. In order to apply cylindrical periodic array to phased array antenna or frequency selective surface, efficient electromagnetic analysis is required. Finite periodic array is applied in real situation. But, generally, assumed that periodic structure is arranged infinitely, approximate electromagnetic characteristics can be obtained efficiently. But, difference of characteristics between real structure and approximate structure occurs because finite periodic array is approximated to infinite periodic array. Therefore, comparison and analysis of cylindrical infinite array and finite array are required. In this paper, cylindrical infinite periodic array are analyzed using cylindrical Floquet harmonics. Also, cylindrical finite periodic array is analyzed using method of moments (MoM) with thin wire approximation because periodic structures which are composed of strip with narrow width are analyzed. Transmission characteristics and surface currents of infinite and finite periodic structures are compared.
