        Analyzing and validating the prognostic value and immune microenvironment of clear cell renal cell carcinoma

        Tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) plays an important role in tumor diagnosis, prevention, treatment and prognosis. However, the correlation and potential mechanism between clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and its TIME are not clear. Therefore, we aimed to identify potential prognostic biomarkers related to TIME of ccRCC. Unsupervised consensus clustering analysis was performed to divide patients into different immune subgroups according to their single-sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) scores. Then, we validated the differences in immune cell infiltration, prognosis, clinical characteristics and expression levels of HLA and immune checkpoint genes between different immune subgroups. Weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to identify the significant modules and hub genes that were related to the immune subgroups. A nomogram was established to predict the overall survival (OS) outcomes after independent prognostic factors were identified by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression and multivariate Cox regression analyses. Five clusters (immune subgroups) were identified. There was no significant difference in age, sex or N stage. And there were significant differences in race, T stage, M stage, grade, prognosis and tumor microenvironment. WGCNA revealed that the red module has an important relationship with TIME, and obtained 14 hub genes. In addition, the nomogram containing LAG3 and GZMK accurately predicted OS outcomes of ccRCC patients. LAG3 and GZMK have a certain correlation with the prognosis of ccRCC patients, and play an important role in the TIME. These two hub genes deserve further study as biomarkers of the TIME.

        Effects of Hydrodynamic Disturbance on Vegetation Development in Coastal Salt Marshes: A Model Study in Jiangsu, China

        Salt marshes are now known to improve coastal safety by attenuating waves and stabilizing the bed. Meanwhile, for salt marsh conservatin and restoration, a great deal of research has been done on the establishment mechanism of vegetation in salt marshes. However, research on the efects of hydrodynamic disturbance on the development of salt marsh vegetation is limited. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how the hydro-morphodynamic process afects the establishment and expansion of plants in salt marshes and to simulate the establishment process. First, we used a 2D fnite-element model to simulate hydro-morphodynamics in the selected tidal fat in Jiangsu, China. We then defned the variables describing the frequency and magnitude of hydrodynamic disturbance and quantifed the efects of disturbance on plant establishment using Spearman correlation coefcients. Finally, the vegetation development process was further analyzed using a logistic regression model, and the vegetation development in the study area was simulated from 2017 to 2021. The results show that salt marsh vegetation colonization has a relatively high correlation with fooding time and bed shear stress (ρ>0.6), and bed shear stress is the main hydrodynamic disturbance parameter limiting further expansion of salt marsh vegetation. The method combining hydrodynamic modeling and logistic regression has the potential to be used to identify hydrodynamic disturbances in future salt marsh restoration and management processes and to help design appropriate restoration measures.

        Performance of Contra-Rotating Propellers for Stratospheric Airships

        Small advance ratio and low Reynolds number of stratospheric propulsion system bring lots of challenges to the design of propellers. Contra-rotating propeller configuration is proposed to improve the propulsion efficiency. In this paper, the feasibility of contra-rotating propeller for stratospheric airship has been assessed and its performance has been investigated by wind tunnel tests. The experimental results indicate, at relatively low Reynolds number, although the advance ratio is fixed, the performance of propellers is different with variation of Reynolds number. Moreover, at the same Reynolds number, the efficiency of contra-rotating propeller achieved appears to be a few percent greater than that for a standard conventional propulsion system. It can be concluded that contra-rotating propellers would be an efficient means to improve the performance of stratospheric airship propulsion system.

        The evaluation of cellular immune function in elderly patients with systemic lupus erythematosus

        Background/Aims: To evaluate cellular immune function in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients over 60 years old, the association between antinuclear antibody (ANA) titers and the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ was analyzed in this study. The distribution of ANAs and extractable nuclear antibodies (ENAs) in a healthy elderly population was also investigated. Methods: Serum ANA titers were assayed by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) and the CD4+/CD8+ T-cell ratio was determined by flow cytometry in 76 SLE patients and 30 healthy control individuals. IIF of cytoplasm and nuclear and nucleolar staining were performed on samples taken from 286 healthy elderly individuals. ENA levels were determined using a strip enzyme immunoassay among patients that tested positive for ANAs. Results: ANA titers were negative in the 30 control individuals, but were positive in the 76 SLE patients. Based on ANA titers, the SLE patients were stratified to low (≤ 1:320), medium (1:640 to 1:1,280), and high (≥ 1:2,560) titer groups. The average CD4+/CD8+ ratio of the SLE group was significantly lower than that of the control group. Among the 286 healthy elderly volunteers, 59 (20.63%) tested positive for ANAs. A homogeneous pattern was present in 47.46% of those 59 patients and a granule pattern in the karyoplasm was present in 33.90%. Furthermore, of the 59 patients, ENAs immunoassay was positive in 18 (30.51%); Sjogren syndrome-related antigen A (SSA)/52 kd and Sjogren syndrome antigen B (SSB)/La were the two major antibodies. Conclusions: The significantly lower CD4+/CD8+ ratio among SLE patients over 60 years old is associated with deregulated immune responses and the development of SLE. A low ANA titer (1:160) is common in healthy elders, emphasizing the importance of considering age when determining if the evaluation of ANA titers is to be included in autoimmune disease diagnosis.

        Development and supercapacitor application of ionic liquid-incorporated gel polymer electrolyte films

        A new gel polymer electrolyte based on 1-methyl-1-propylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethyl sulfonyl)imide ([PMpyr][NTf2]) entrapped in poly(vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene) (PVdF-HFP) is prepared and optimized for flexible solid state supercapacitor applications. The structural, thermal, electrical and electrochemical properties of the ionic liquid gel polymer electrolyte membranes are studied by different characterization techniques. The transparent gel polymer electrolyte membranes exhibit high amorphicity and excellent thermal stability. The 20PVdF-HFP:80[PMpyr][NTf2] gel polymer electrolyte membrane possesses a high ionic conductivity (1.596 × 10−3 S cm−1) and wide electrochemical stability window (4.7 V) at room temperature. It is used as the electrolyte material for the fabrication of flexible electric double layer supercapacitors (EDLCs) with multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-added and unadded activated carbon (AC) electrodes. The performances of flexible EDLCs are evaluated using cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge–discharge measurements. The EDLC with MWCNT-added AC electrodes exhibits apparently higher specific capacitance of electrode (156.64 F g−1), specific energy (30.69 Wh kg−1) and specific power (4.13 kW kg−1) than that with AC electrodes. The cyclic stability of the former is still in a good condition at the 2000th charge–discharge cycle and much better than the latter. The present comparative study indicates that the 20PVdF-HFP:80[PMpyr][NTf2] gel polymer electrolyte is a good candidate for the development of flexible solid-state supercapacitors.

        Evaluation and Prediction on the Hydraulic Abrasion Performance of High Belite Cement-Based Concrete

        High belite cement (HBC) concrete is increasingly applied to the hydraulic projects, where much attention should be paid to the abrasion performance. In this paper, the mass loss, abrasion rate and morphology indexes such as depth of abrasion, volume loss and fractal dimension of HBC-based concrete at different wear periods were determined through underwater method. Moreover, a new method by transforming the survey area of worn surface was put forward to simulating practical erosion conditions, based on which, the abrasion performance prediction model was built by Projection Pursuit Regression (PPR) theory. Results show that the compounding addition of 30% mineral admixtures had little contribution to the abrasion resistance of HBC concrete after being long-term cured, while reducing water-binder (w/b) ratios was still an effective way for improving that. The worn surface of concrete specimens was divided into three regions for abrade zone, transitional zone and sound zone, and the abrasion evolution was found to be related to the wear duration and space position. Furthermore, there were good correlations between mass loss rate, depth of abrasion, volume loss and fractal dimension, and the fitting formulas were also proposed with good coefficients. Eventually, the PPR model based on the data of transformed survey area was proved to be a promising approach for predicting the abrasion performance.

        Robust Design of Coordinated Set Planning with the Non-Ideal Channel

        In practical wireless systems, the erroneous channel state information (CSI) sometimes deteriorates the performance drastically. This paper focuses on robust design of coordinated set planning of coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission, with respect to the feedback delay and link error. The non-ideal channel models involving various uncertainty conditions are given. After defining a penalty factor, the robust net ergodic capacity optimization problem is derived, whose variables to be optimized are the number of coordinated base stations (BSs) and the divided area`s radius. By the maximum minimum criterion, upper and lower bounds of the robust capacity are investigated. A practical scheme is proposed to determine the optimal number of cooperative BSs. The simulation results indicate that the robust design based on maxmin principle is better than other precoding schemes. The gap between two bounds gets smaller as transmission power increases. Besides, as the large scale fading is higher or the channel is less reliable, the number of the cooperated BSs shall be greater.

        Characterization of clutch traits and egg production in six chicken breeds

        Objective: The better understanding of laying pattern of birds is crucial for developing breed-specific proper breeding scheme and management. Methods: Daily egg production until 50 wk of age of six chicken breeds including one layer (White Leghorn, WL), three dual-purpose (Rhode Island Red, RIR; Columbian Plymouth Rock, CR; and Barred Plymouth Rock, BR), one synthetic dwarf (DY), and one indigenous (Beijing-You Chicken, BYC) were used to characterize their clutch traits and egg production. The age at first egg, egg number, average and maximum clutch length, pause length, and number of clutches and pauses were calculated accordingly. Results: The egg number and average clutch length in WL, RIR, CR, and BR were higher than those in DY and BYC (p<0.01). The numbers of clutches and pauses, and pause length in WL, RIR, CR, and BR were lower than those in DY and BYC (p<0.01). The coefficient variations of clutch length in WL, RIR, CR, and BR (57.66%, 66.49%, 64.22%, and 55.35%, respectively) were higher than DY (41.84%) and BYC (36.29%), while the coefficient variations of egg number in WL, RIR, CR, and BR (9.10%, 9.97%, 10.82%, and 9.92%) were lower than DY (15.84%) and BYC (16.85%). The clutch length was positively correlated with egg number (r = 0.51 to 0.66; p<0.01), but not correlated with age at first egg in all breeds. Conclusion: The six breeds showed significant different clutch and egg production traits. Due to the selection history, the high and median productive layer breeds had higher clutch length than those of the less productive indigenous BYC. The clutch length is a proper selection criterion for further progress in egg production. The age at first egg, which is independent of clutch traits, is especially encouraged to be improved by selection in the BYC breed.

        In-pile tritium release behavior and the post-irradiation experiments of Li4SiO4 fabricated by melting process

        Understanding the tritium release and retention behavior of candidate tritium breeder materials is crucial for breeder blanket design. Recently, a melt spraying process was developed to prepare Li4SiO4 pebbles, which were subsequently subjected to the in-pile tritium production and extraction platform in China Mianyang Research Reactor (CMRR) to investigate their in-situ tritium release behavior and irradiation performance. The results demonstrate that HT is the main tritium release form, and adding hydrogen to the purge gas reduces tritium retention while increasing the HT percent in the purge gas. Post-irradiation experiments reveal that the irradiated pebbles darken in color and their grains swell, but the mechanical properties remain largely unchanged. It is concluded that the tritium residence time of Li4SiO4 made by melt spraying method at 467 ◦C is approximately 23.34 h. High-density Li4SiO4 pebbles exhibit tritium release at relatively low temperatures (<600 ◦C) that is mainly controlled by bulk diffusion. The diffusion coefficient at 525 ◦C and 550 ◦C is 1.19 × 10 11 cm2/s and 5.34 × 10 11 cm2/s, respectively, with corresponding tritium residence times of 21.3 hours and 4.7 hours.
