Prestressed concrete structural system is the one of the best alternatives to satisfy deflection requirements for the long and slender span members. Especially, pre-tension member can be precasted at factory that reduces construction waste by minimizing the onsite work and construction duration, which is considered as an eco-friendly and economical structural method. However, the economic efficiency of the pre-tension system heavily depends on the transfer time as the pre-tensioned member need to acquire an proper compressive strength at transfer. Unfortunately, the allowable compressive stresses in many codes of practice are based on only experience without theoretical consideration, which also are often very conservative. To solve out such problems, this research proposed the allowable compressive stress based on ultimate strength design method, considering main variables such as shapes of cross section, intensity of prestress, and eccentricity of tendons.

<P>CD137 (4-1BB), a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, has been reported to be expressed in atherosclerotic plaques, and to promote lesion formation. However, the role of CD137 in mediating atherosclerotic plaque stability and the possible underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms are poorly understood. Here, apolipoprotein E-deficient (<I>ApoE</I><SUP>−/−</SUP>) and CD137-deficient <I>ApoE</I><SUP>−/−</SUP> (<I>ApoE</I><SUP>−/−</SUP>CD137<SUP>−/−</SUP>) mice fed a chow diet for 66 wk were used. CD137 induces plaque instability, which is characterized by increased plaque necrosis, decreased collagen content, decreased vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) content, and increased macrophage infiltration. CD137 also increases the infiltration of effector T (T<SUB>eff</SUB>) cells into plaque lesion sites, resulting in increased interferon-γ (IFN-γ) expression. Interestingly, T<SUB>eff</SUB>-cell-derived IFN-γ inhibits collagen synthesis in atherosclerotic plaques. Furthermore, CD137 activation increases the apoptosis of VSMCs, possibly by decreasing the antiapoptotic regulator, Bcl-2, and subsequently up-regulating cleaved caspase-3. In macrophages, activation of CD137 signaling boosted the oxidized low density lipoprotein-induced expression of matrix metalloproteinase 9 <I>via</I> the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase and extracellular signal-regulated kinase1/2 signaling pathways. <P>CD44 and CD133 mRNA expression as cancer stem cell markers in colorectal cancer were correlated with synchronous hepatic metastases and the clinicopathological factors, including patient survival. The CD44 and CD133 mRNA levels in 36 primary colorectal adenocarcinomas with synchronous hepatic metastasis were analyzed by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, with normalization relative to glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH). Immunohistochemical analysis was performed on samples with typical mRNA expression patterns to investigate protein expression. Both CD44 and CD133 gene expressions were highest in hepatic metastasis tissue, followed by colorectal cancer and normal mucosa. The differences were statistically significant among groups of normal mucosa, colorectal cancer and hepatic metastasis tissue. CD44 mRNA expression was significantly associated with the tumor location (P=0.019) and histology (P=0.026). With a median follow-up period of 38 months, the 5-year disease-free survival rate of the patients with high CD44 mRNA expression in the CD44 hepatic metastasis tissue group was significantly lower than that of the patients with low expression (P=0.002). While the mRNA expressions in groups of CD44 colorectal tumor, CD133 colorectal tumor, and CD133 hepatic metastasis tissue were not significant. CD44 and CD133 mRNA were highly correlatively co-expressed in colorectal cancer with hepatic metastases. CD44 expression was an independent factor associated with patient survival, while CD133 did not show this pattern. Thus, CD44 is a more reliable marker for predicting hepatic metastases and survival. Larger prospective studies are required to confirm these findings.</P>

본 논문은 레일빔의 길이 산정에 관해서 지반공학적 측면에서 다룬 내용을 담고 있다. 레일빔은 과거 구교에서 레일을 조립하여 침목새들을 지점삼아 가로보 역할을 할 수 있도록 설계한 영구구조물을 일컫었으나 최근 철도시설물의 현대화로 인해 구교의 신설이 없어지면서 레일빔의 의미가 퇴색되었고 철도횡단공사시 가설기간중에 사용하는 부등침하 방지 목적의 보강레일로 그 의미가 바뀌었다. 이러한 레일빔의 길이는 레일의 구조적 안정성을 기반으로 산정하고 있으나 지반공학적인 측면에서 철도횡단구조물의 깊이에 따라 노반의 파괴각은 달라질 수 있으므로 레일빔의 길이 산정시 이를 반영하여야 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 합리적인 레일빔의 길이 산정을 위해 활동영역길이와 저항영역길이로 구분하고 깊이에 따라 레일빔의 길이 산정시 이를 반영할 것을 제안한다. This paper describes the determination of the lengths of rail beams in terms of geotechnical engineering. Originally rail beams referred to those permanent structures that had been designed to be made by assembling rails on culverts to play the role of cross beams using a sleeper as support points in the past. But because culverts have not been newly constructed due to the modernization of railroad facilities, the meaning of rail beams has been turned to the reinforcing rails for preventing differential settlements used during the period of temporary construction during railroad traversing work. Although the lengths of these rail beams are calculated based on the structural stability of rails, the angle of fracture of the roadbed should be also considered when calculating the lengths of rail beams because the angle of fracture of the roadbed may vary with the depths of structures that traverse the railroad in terms of geotechnical engineering. Therefore, this paper proposes that each rail beam length should be divided into the length of active zone and the length of resistance zone that vary with the depths of structures and these lengths should be reflected when calculating rail beam lengths based on depths of structures.

A design program for diaphragm of three kinds of welded metal bellows was developed in this paper. Metal bellows is widely used in vacuum, semiconductor, petrochemical, instrumental, medical and aerospace applications. It has good hermetically sealed, flexible and temperature resilient device. Following the current, the effective of shpe design for metal bellows is needed. According to the principle, it is developed an automatic design system for a bellows. The design program was written in AutoLISP language on the AutoCAD system. If a user inputs design variables, such as initial radius, inner and outer diameters, pitch, thickness of plate and land length, the diaphragm is automatically designed. User could also select the type of bellows which one`s need.
