Effects of Aquatic Training on Waist Circumference and Body Composition among Children: A Meta-analysis

        Jianming Zhou,Ahmad Tajuddin Othman,Ahmad Zamri Khairani 한국운동생리학회 2022 운동과학 Vol.31 No.3

PURPOSE: Aquatic training assists in reducing the risk of exercise on joints among children. This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of aquatic training for children from the perspective of body composition. METHODS: A meta-analysis was performed to determine the potential impact of aquatic training in children. Four databases, namely Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and EBSCO, were used for the systematic search from September 2010 to November 2021. The mean differences in the data were analyzed using Stata 15.1 software with a 95% confidence interval. Outcome measures included weight, body mass index (BMI), fat percentage (Fat%), and waist circumference. RESULTS: Eleven studies, comprising eight randomized controlled trials (RCT) and three non-RCT studies, evaluating the effect of aquatic training on children were analyzed and reported. Aquatic training significantly improved the BMI (p<.01) and Fat% (p<.01) in children (ES (95% CI)=-0.23 (-0.38, -0.08) and ES (95% CI)=-0.27 (-0.45, -0.08). However, aquatic training had no significant effect on weight (p=.41), ES (95% CI)=-0.07 (-0.25, 0.10), and waist circumference (p=.11) in children, ES (95% CI)=-0.33 (- 0.74, 0.08). CONCLUSIONS: Aquatic training can improve children’s BMI and body fat% but not their weight, waist circumference, and muscle mass. Aquatic training may be a potential exercise program for improving body composition in children.

Small Molecule-Based Strategy Promotes Nucleus Pulposus Specific Differentiation of Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells

        Jianming Hua,Ning Shen,Jingkai Wang,Yiqing Tao,Fangcai Li,Qixin Chen,Xiaopeng Zhou 한국분자세포생물학회 2019 Molecules and cells Vol.42 No.9

Adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) are promising for regenerating degenerated intervertebral discs (IVDs), but the low efficiency of nucleus pulposus (NP)-specific differentiation limits their clinical applications. The Sonic hedgehog (Shh) signaling pathway is important in NP-specific differentiation of ADSCs, and Smoothened Agonist (SAG) is a highly specific and effective agonist of Shh signaling. In this study, we proposed a new differentiation strategy with the use of the small molecule SAG. The NP-specific differentiation and extracellular matrix (ECM) synthesis of ADSCs were measured in vitro, and the regenerative effects of SAG pretreated ADSCs in degenerated IVDs were verified in vivo. The results showed that the combination of SAG and transforming growth factor-β3 (TGF-β3) is able to increase the ECM synthesis of ADSCs. In addition, the gene and protein expression levels of NP-specific markers were increased by treatment with SAG and TGF-β3. Furthermore, SAG pretreated ADSCs can also improve the disc height, water content, ECM content, and structure of degenerated IVDs in vivo. Our new differentiation scheme has high efficiency in inducing NP-specific differentiation of ADSCs and is promising for stem cell-based treatment of degenerated IVDs.

The relevance of breast motions and gaits in running exercises

        Jie Zhou,Qian Mao,Jun Zhang,Newman M. L. Lau,Jianming Chen 한국의류학회 2022 Fashion and Textiles Vol.9 No.1

The control of breast motions is a critical indicator to evaluate the comfort and function of sports bras. If the breast motions can be predicted based on the gait parameters detected by wearable sensors, it will more economical and convenient to evaluate the bras. Thirteen unmarried Chinese females with a breast cup of 75B were recruited in this study to investigate the regularity of breast motions and the relevance between breast motions and gaits during running exercises. The breast motion indicator is the distance alteration of breast regions. The gaits were described by the rotation angles of the hip, knee, ankle joints, and the foot height of the ground. Firstly, the Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis H test were utilized to analyze the motion diversity among the eight breast regions. Then, the gray correlation analysis was applied to explore the relevance between breast motions and gaits. Finally, the back-propagation neural network, the genetic algorithm, and the particle swarm optimization algorithm were utilized to construct the prediction models for breast motions based on gait parameters. The results demonstrate that the same breast regions on the bilateral breasts and the diferent breast regions on the ipsilateral breasts present a signifcant motion diversity. There is a moderate correlation between breast motions and gait parameters, and the back-propagation neural network optimized by the particle swarm optimization algorithm performs better in breast motion prediction, which has a coeffcient of determination of 84.58% and a mean absolute error of 0.2108.

Further Results about the Normal Family of Meromorphic Functions and Shared Sets

Qi, Jianming,Zhang, Guowei,Zhou, Linlin Department of Mathematics 2012 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.52 No.1

Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a family of meromorphic functions in a domain D, and let $k$, $n({\geq}2)$ be two positive integers, and let $S=\{a_1,a_2,{\ldots},a_n\}$, where $a_1$, $a_2$, ${\ldots}$, $a_n$ are distinct finite complex numbers. If for each $f{\in}\mathcal{F}$, all zeros of $f$ have multiplicity at least $k+1$, $f$ and $G(f)$ share the set $S$ in $D$, where $G(f)=P(f^{(k)})+H(f)$ is a differential polynomial of $f$, then$\mathcal{F}$ is normal in $D$.

Solidification/stabilization of simulated cadmium-contaminated wastes with magnesium potassium phosphate cement

        Ying Su,Jianming Yang,Debin Liu,Shucong Zhen,Naixi Lin,Yongxin Zhou 대한환경공학회 2016 Environmental Engineering Research Vol.21 No.1

Magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MKPC) is an effective agent for solidification/stabilization (S/S) technology. To further explore the mechanism of the S/S by MKPC, two kinds of Cd including Cd(NO₃)2 solution (L-Cd) and municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSWI FA) adsorbed Cd (S-Cd), were used to compare the effects of the form of heavy metal on S/S. The results showed that all the MKPC pastes had a high unconfined compressive strength (UCS) above 11 MPa. For L-Cd pastes, Cd leaching concentration increased with the increase of Cd content, and decreased with the increase of curing time. With the percentage of MSWI FA below 20%, S-Cd pastes exhibited similar Cd leaching concentrations as those of L-Cd pastes, while when the content of MSWI FA come up to 30%, the Cd leaching concentration increased significantly. To meet the standard GB5085.3-2007, the highest addition of S-Cd was 30% MSWI FA (6% Cd contained), with the Cd leaching concentration of 0.817 mg/L. The S/S of L-Cd is mainly due to chemical fixation, and the hydration compound of Cd was NaCdPO₄, while the S/S of S-Cd is due to physical encapsulation, which is dependent on the pore/crack size and porosity of the MKPC pastes.

Fault-tolerant Control for Linear System Under Sensor Saturation Constraint

        Jun-Wei Zhu,Qiao-Qian Zhou,Jianming Xu,Jian-Wei Dong 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2021 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.19 No.1

An observer-based fault-tolerant control method is proposed for a linear system with sensor saturationconstraint. Considering the linear system with simultaneous actuator faults and sensor faults, the sensor saturation would bring the output measurement error of the system, which would result in the estimation performancedegradation. Firstly, the intermediate estimator is modified to estimate the system states and fault signals at thesimultaneous time, and the fault-tolerant controller is designed based on the estimation to compensate the effectof actuator faults effectively. Through Lyapunov stability analysis, the sufficient conditions are obtained to ensurethe states of closed-loop system to be uniformly ultimately bounded. The effect of sensor saturation error can besuppressed by adjusting some specified parameters directly without introducing any performance index. Finally, theeffectiveness and superiority of the proposed method are verified by a simulation example

The Expression and Relationship of CD68-Tumor-Associated Macrophages and Microvascular Density With the Prognosis of Patients With Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Shujun Sun,Xinliang Pan,Limin Zhao,Jianming Zhou,Hongzeng Wang,Yonghong Sun 대한이비인후과학회 2016 Clinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology Vol.9 No.3

Objectives. We sought to identify the expression of CD68-tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and CD34-microvascular density (MVD) in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC), to study the relationship with clinical pathological parameters and to determine whether their expression is predictive of disease. Methods. Pathologically confirmed 45 LSCC tissue and 20 peritumoral non-tumor tissue were examined. Immunohistochemical studies were used to detect the expression of CD68-TAMs and CD34-MVD. Results. The positive expression rate of CD68 in LSCC tissue was 82% (37/45), which was higher than the 10% (2/20) expression rate of the peritumoral tissue (P<0.05). The CD34-MVD positive expression rate in the LSCC tissue was 26.5±6.4, which obviously higher than 12.2±4.0 expression rate of the peritumoral tissue (P<0.05). The positive expression rates of both CD68 and CD34-MVD were higher in the lymph node metastasis (LNM) positive group than in the LNM negative group. The expression of CD68 had positive correlation with CD34-MVD. The 5-year disease-free survival rate in the group with the low CD68 expression was significantly higher than that in the group with high CD68 expression (76% vs. 42%, respectively). Conclusion. The high expression of CD68-TAMs in LSCC and its positive correlation with CD34-MVD illustrates that both play an important role in promoting the metastasis and angiogenesis of this cancer. Their expression was also positively correlated with the prognoses of these patients, suggesting that they could be used as important prognostic markers for LSCC.
