• A New Ambiguity Elimination Method for BSS Block Signals in Time Domain

        Wei Zhao,Fengshan Wang,Yuehong Shen,Yuanyuan Wu,Zhigang Yuan,Pengcheng Xu,Pengcheng Xu,Yimin Wei,Wei Jian 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.8 No.11

This paper deals with the ambiguity problem of blind source separation (BSS) in the case where continuously received mixture signals are split in time and processed block by block. Due to the inherent permutation and scaling ambiguities of BSS, tying the separated components at each adjacent time blocks doesn’t recover the original source signals correctly in general. Inspired by the Permutation Method of reconstructing source signal blocks in time domain, a new ambiguity elimination approach is proposed in this paper. This method aims to concatenate the separated components in adjacent blocks by artificially setting contrast blocks for each adjacent time blocks. The core idea of this method is to utilize the associativity between components recovered from contrast blocks and corresponding adjacent blocks. Compared with Permutation Method, the main advantage of this new method consists in the fact that it is much more efficient in terms of separation quality and computational speed. Besides, a tradeoff can be adjusted between separation quality and computational speed by choosing different length of contrast blocks. Real-life experiments are performed to validate the performance of this method on the wireless communication system with two transmitting and receiving antennas.

      • MiR-421 Regulates Apoptosis of BGC-823 Gastric Cancer Cells by Targeting Caspase-3

        Wu, Jian-Hong,Yao, Yong-Liang,Gu, Tao,Wang, Ze-You,Pu, Xiong-Yong,Sun, Wang-Wei,Zhang, Xian,Jiang, Yi-Biao,Wang, Jian-Jun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.13

MicroRNAs might act as oncogenes or tumor suppressors in cancer. Recent studies have shown that miR-421 is up-regulated in human gastric cancer. Here, we found that miR-421 was over-expressed in gastric cancer tissues and cell lines. Bioinformatics analysis predicted that the caspase-3 gene was a target of miR-421. Caspase-3 was negatively regulated by miR-421 at the post-transcriptional level. Bax and Bcl-2 were also regulated by miR-421. Moreover, tumor necrosis factor receptor-I and -II, death receptors in the apoptosis pathway, were up-regulated by miR-421. The over-expression of miR-421 promoted gastric cancer cell growth and inhibited apoptosis of the BGC-823 gastric cancer cell line. These observations indicate that miR-421 acts as a tumor promoter by targeting the caspase-3 gene and preventing apoptosis of gastric cancer cells through inhibition of caspase-3 expression. These findings contribute to our understanding of the functions of miR-421 in gastric cancer.

      • Dual-pumped nondegenerate four-wave mixing in semiconductor laser with a built-in external cavity

        Wu, Jian-Wei,Qiu, Qi,Hyub Won, Yong IOP 2017 Journal of optics Vol.19 No.4

In this paper, a semiconductor laser system consisting of a conventional multimode Fabry–Pérot laser diode with a built-in external cavity is presented and demonstrated. More than two resonance modes, whose peak levels are significantly higher than other residual modes, are simultaneously supported and output by adjusting the bias current and operating temperature of the active region. Based on this device, dual-pumped nondegenerate four-wave mixing—in which two pump waves and a single signal wave are simultaneously fed into the laser, and the injection power and wavelength of the injected pump and signal waves are changed—is observed and discussed thoroughly. The results show that while the wavelengths of pump wave A and signal wave S are kept constant, the other pump wave B jumps from about 1535 nm to 1578 nm, generating conversion signals with changed wavelengths. The achieved conversion bandwidth between the primary signal and the converted signal waves is broadly tunable in the range of several terahertz frequencies. Both the conversion efficiency and optical signal-to-noise ratio of the newly generated conversion signals are adopted to evaluate the performance of the proposed four-wave mixing process, and are strongly dependent on the wavelength and power of the injected waves. Here, the attained maximum conversion efficiency and optical signal-to-noise ratio are close to −22 dB and 15 dB, respectively.

      • Optically tunable microwave, millimeter-wave and submillimeter-wave utilizing single-mode Fabry-Pérot laser diode subject to optical feedback

Wu, Jian-Wei,Nakarmi, Bikash,Won, Yong Hyub The Optical Society 2016 Optics express Vol.24 No.3

In this paper, we use optical feedback injection technique to generate tunable microwave, millimeter-wave and submillimeter-wave signals using single-mode Fabry-Perot laser diode. The beat frequency of the proposed generator ranges from 30.4 GHz to 3.40 THz. The peak power ratio between two resonating modes at the output spectrum of can be less than 0.5 dB by judiciously selecting feedback wavelength. In the stabilization test, the peak fluctuation of photonic signal is as low as 0.19 dB within half hour. Aside from locking regions, where the laser is easily locked by the injection beam, the side-mode suppression ratio is well over 25 dB with the maximum value of 36.6 dB at 30.4 GHz beat frequency. In addition, the minimum beat frequency interval between two adjacent photonic signals is as low as 10 GHz. (C) 2016 Optical Society of America

Investigation of surface-piercing fixed structures with different shapes for Bragg reflection of water waves

        Wei-Wei Ding,Zao-jian Zou,Jing-Ping Wu,Bai-Gang Huang 대한조선학회 2019 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.11 No.2

Bragg reflection of water waves by three kinds of surface-piercing fixed structures with rectangular, cosinoidal and triangular shapes is studied. Boundary element method is used to analyze the wave scattering by these structures based on the linear wave theory. Results of reflection and transmission coefficients are validated by comparing with those available in literature. These structures with proper configurations are proved to be effective in attenuating waves by using Bragg reflection, and the triangular structures are found to be the best choices among the structures with same width and same area. Systematic calculations are then carried out for the triangular structures by varying the number, the draft, the width, the gap and the combination of width and gap of the structures to analyze their influences on the characteristics of Bragg reflection. The results are of reference values for design of the structures to attenuate waves based on the Bragg reflection.

집파리유충 hemolymph 중신형의 anti-fungal peptides의 분리정제

        Jian-Wei Wu,Li-juan Gu,Xiao-Qing Su,성창근 한국생명과학회 2006 생명과학회지 Vol.16 No.3

To isolate and purify anti-fungal active substances from immunized housefly (Musca domestica), low dose of Candida albicans was injected into the larvae of the housefly to induce the appearance of potent anti-fungal active substances in the hemolymph. This purification work was performed by the routine isolation and purification processes of protein, namely, solid phase extraction (SPE), SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, HPLC purification. Three 4~16 kDa peptides which exhibited antifungal activity against Candida albican and other fungi were isolated from induced hemolymph. Consequently, further anti-fungal activity study showed that these three peptides were different either in molecular weight or in anti-fungal activity. All isolated substances were proved to be active and resistant to high-temperature. It was deduced that these peptides isolated from induced housefly were novel members of the insect defensin family and they were inducible.

      • Comprehensive Bioinformation Analysis of the MRNA Profile of Fascin Knockdown in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Wu, Bing-Li,Luo, Lie-Wei,Li, Chun-Quan,Xie, Jian-Jun,Du, Ze-Peng,Wu, Jian-Yi,Zhang, Pi-Xian,Xu, Li-Yan,Li, En-Min Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.12

Background: Fascin, an actin-bundling protein forming actin bundles including filopodia and stress fibers, is overexpressed in multiple human epithelial cancers including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Previously we conducted a microarray experiment to analyze fascin knockdown by RNAi in ESCC. Method: In this study, the differentially expressed genes from mRNA expression profilomg of fascin knockdown were analyzed by multiple bioinformatics methods for a comprehensive understanding of the role of fascin. Results: Gene Ontology enrichment found terms associated with cytoskeleton organization, including cell adhesion, actin filament binding and actin cytoskeleton, which might be related to fascin function. Except GO categories, the differentially expressed genes were annotated by 45 functional categories from the Functional Annotation Chart of DAVID. Subpathway analysis showed thirty-nine pathways were disturbed by the differentially expressed genes, providing more detailed information than traditional pathway enrichment analysis. Two subpathways derivated from regulation of the actin cytoskeleton were shown. Promoter analysis results indicated distinguishing sequence patterns and transcription factors in response to the co-expression of downregulated or upregulated differentially expressed genes. MNB1A, c-ETS, GATA2 and Prrx2 potentially regulate the transcription of the downregulated gene set, while Arnt-Ahr, ZNF42, Ubx and TCF11-MafG might co-regulate the upregulated genes. Conclusions: This multiple bioinformatic analysis helps provide a comprehensive understanding of the roles of fascin after its knockdown in ESCC.

Prevalence of Spina Bifida Occulta and Its Relationship With Overactive Bladder in Middle-Aged and Elderly Chinese People

        Jun Wei Wu,Yu Rong Xing,Yi Bo Wen,Tian Fang Li,Quan De Feng,Xiao Ping Shang,Yun Long Li,Jin Jin Feng,Xin Xin Wang,Rong Qun Zhai,Xiang Fei He,Tao Chen,Xin Jian Liu,Jian Guo Wen 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2016 International Neurourology Journal Vol.20 No.2

Purpose: To investigate the prevalence of spina bifida occulta (SBO) and its relationship with the presence of overactive bladder (OAB) in middle-aged and elderly people in China. Methods: A cross-sectional community-based survey was carried out at 7 communities in Zhengzhou City, China from December 15, 2013 to June 10, 2014, where residents aged over 40 years were randomly selected to participate. All of the participants underwent lumbosacral radiographic analysis and relevant laboratory tests. A questionnaire including basic information, past medical history and present illness, and the OAB symptom score was filled out by all participants. Chi-square tests and logistic regression were used for data analysis with a P-value of <0.05 denoting statistical significance. Results: A total of 1,061 subjects were qualified for the final statistical analysis (58.8±11.7 years; male, 471 [44.4%]; female, 590 [55.6%]). The overall prevalence of SBO was 15.1% (160 of 1,061): 18.3% (86 of 471) in men and 12.5% (74 of 590) in women. Among these subjects, 13.7% (145 of 1,061) had OAB: 13.2% (62 of 471) in men and 14.1% (83 of 590) in women. The results of logistic regression showed that age, SBO, history of cerebral infarction (HCI), and constipation were risk factors for OAB (P<0.05), while sex, history of childhood enuresis (HCE), body mass index (BMI), and diabetes mellitus (DM) were not (P>0.05). In men, age, SBO, and constipation were risk factors for OAB (P<0.05), while HCE, BMI, DM, HCI, and benign prostate hyperplasia were not (P>0.05). In women, age, SBO, and HCI were risk factors for OAB (P<0.05), while HCE, BMI, DM, vaginal delivery, and constipation were not (P>0.05). Conclusions: The prevalence of SBO is high and it is related to OAB in middle-aged and elderly people in China.
