Analysis of Volatile Compounds in Chinese Soy Sauces Moromi Cultured by Different Fermentation Processes

        Jia Zheng,Chong-De Wu,Jun Huang,Rong-Qing Zhou,Xue Pin Liao 한국식품과학회 2013 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.22 No.3

The volatile compounds in Chinese soy sauce moromi cultured by different fermentation processes [lowsalt solid-state fermentation (LSSF), high-salt dilute-state fermentation (HSDF), and high-salt constant temperature fermentation (HSCT)] were determined by GC-MS. The LSSF moromi had the highest total concentration of volatile compounds, followed by HSCT and HSDF moromi. Volatiles such as ethyl linoleate and ethyl oleate dominated in HSCT moromi. 2,3-Butanediol and 2,6-dimethylpyrazine were present at high content in LSSF moromi. The hierarchal cluster analysis (HCA) and principal component analysis (PCA) were employed to investigate the fermentation process effect on the category of samples. Based on HCA,HSCT (a1 and a2) and HSDF (b1 and b2) clustered in 1group, and LSSF (c1 and c2) located in another group. PCA illustrated that each kind of samples correlating with specific volatile compound groups were clearly differentiated according to their fermentation processes. The results suggest that GC-MS together with multivariate analyses could provide practical reference to recognize different Chinese soy sauces moromi.

        Jia-San Zheng,Ren-Yue Wei,Zheng Wang,Ting-Ting Zhu,Hong-Ri Ruan,Xue Wei,Kai-Wen Hou,Rui Wu 대한수의학회 2020 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.21 No.3

Background: Feline mammary carcinoma is the third most common cancer that affects female cats. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to screen differential serum proteins in feline and clarify the relationship between them and the occurrence of feline mammary carcinoma. Methods: Chinese pastoral cats were used as experimental animals. Six serum samples from cats with mammary carcinoma (group T) and six serum samples from healthy cats (group C) were selected. Differential protein analysis was performed using a Label-free technique, while parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) was performed to verify the screened differential proteins. Results: A total of 82 differential proteins were detected between group T and group C, of which 55 proteins were down regulated and 27 proteins were up regulated. Apolipoprotein A-I, Apolipoprotein A-II (ApoA-II), Apolipoprotein B (ApoB), Apolipoprotein C-III (ApoC-III), coagulation factor V, coagulation factor X, C1q, albumen (ALB) were all associated with the occurrence of feline mammary carcinoma. Differential proteins were involved in a total of 40 signaling pathways, among which the metabolic pathways associated with feline mammary carcinoma were the complement and coagulation cascade and cholesterol metabolism. According to the Label-free results, ApoB, ApoC-III, ApoA-II, FN1, an uncharacterized protein, and ALB were selected for PRM target verification. The results were consistent with the trend of the label-free. Conclusions: This experimen is the first to confirm ApoA-II and ApoB maybe new feline mammary carcinoma biomarkers and to analyze their mechanisms in the development of such carcinoma in feline.

      • Knockdown of Maternal Homeobox Transcription Factor SEBOX Gene Impaired Early Embryonic Development in Porcine Parthenotes

        ZHENG, Zhong,ZHAO, Ming-Hui,JIA, Jia-Lin,HEO, Young-Tae,CUI, Xiang-Shun,OH, Jeong Su,KIM, Nam-Hyung The Society for Reproduction and Development 2013 The Journal of reproduction and development Vol.59 No.6

Abstract

A number of germ cell-specific transcription factors essential for ovarian formation and folliculogenesis have been identified and studied. However, the role of these factors during early embryonic development has been poorly explored. In the present study, we investigated the role of SEBOX, a maternal homeobox transcription factor, during early embryonic development in porcine parthenotes. mRNA for SEBOX is preferentially expressed in oocytes, and expression persists until embryonic genome activation (EGA). Knockdown of SEBOX by siRNA disrupted early embryonic development, but not oocyte maturation. Many maternal genes essential for early embryonic development were upregulated in SEBOX-depleted embryos. Moreover, some pluripotency-associated genes, including SOX2 and NANOG, were upregulated when SEBOX was knocked down. Therefore, our data demonstrate that SEBOX is required for early embryonic development in pigs and appears to regulate the degradation of maternal transcripts and the expression of pluripotency genes.

Pythium subutonaiense, A New Aquatic Oomycete from Southern China Based on Morphological and Molecular Characters

        ( Jia-jia Chen ),( Xiao-bo Zheng ) 한국균학회 2019 Mycobiology Vol.47 No.3

A new species, Pythium subutonaiense, isolated from aquatic environments (lake) in China is being described based on morphological characters and molecular evidence. The isolates grew at temperatures between 5 ℃ and 38 ℃, and the optimum temperature was 30 ℃, with a radial growth rate of 17.6mm at 25 ℃ per day. It is homothallic and characterized by globose to sub-globose shaped and mostly terminal or sometimes catenulate hyphal swellings, filamentous non-inflated sporangia, and smooth oogonia with hypogynous and monoclinous antheridia that contained one plerotic oospore. In phylogenetic analysis, inferred based on the internal transcribed spacer region of the ribosomal RNA gene and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 gene, the new species formed a distinct lineage in Pythium clade B. Differences between the new species and phylogenetically related and morphologically similar species are discussed.

      • Tumor-Derived Transforming Growth Factor-β is Critical for Tumor Progression and Evasion from Immune Surveillance

        Li, Zheng,Zhang, Li-Juan,Zhang, Hong-Ru,Tian, Gao-Fei,Tian, Jun,Mao, Xiao-Li,Jia, Zheng-Hu,Meng, Zi-Yu,Zhao, Li-Qing,Yin, Zhi-Nan,Wu, Zhen-Zhou Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.13

Tumors have evolved numerous mechanisms by which they can escape from immune surveillance. One of these is to produce immunosuppressive cytokines. Transforming growth factor-${\beta}$(TGF-${\beta}$) is a pleiotropic cytokine with a crucial function in mediating immune suppression, especially in the tumor microenvironment. TGF-${\beta}$ produced by T cells has been demonstrated as an important factor for suppressing antitumor immune responses, but the role of tumor-derived TGF-${\beta}$ in this process is poorly understood. In this study, we demonstrated that knockdown of tumor-derived TGF-${\beta}$ using shRNA resulted in dramatically reduced tumor size, slowing tumor formation, prolonging survival rate of tumor-bearing mice and inhibiting metastasis. We revealed possible underlying mechanisms as reducing the number of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC) and $CD4^+Foxp3^+$ Treg cells, and consequently enhanced IFN-${\gamma}$ production by CTLs. Knockdown of tumor-derived TGF-${\beta}$ also significantly reduced the conversion of na$\ddot{i}$ve $CD4^+$ T cells into Treg cells in vitro. Finally, we found that knockdown of TGF-${\beta}$ suppressed cell migration, but did not change the proliferation and apoptosis of tumor cells in vitro. In summary, our study provided evidence that tumor-derived TGF-${\beta}$ is a critical factor for tumor progression and evasion of immune surveillance, and blocking tumor-derived TGF-${\beta}$ may serve as a potential therapeutic approach for cancer.

Vol.8 No.3

(Background and Purpose) The Tang dynasty unified China and interacted with many Western nations. This reaching out led to cross-pollination, imbuing the plant patterns of the Tang dynasty with a mixture of culture and religion. In this study, the origin, history, and evolution of plant patterns are analyzed in light of Tang dynasty architecture. In addition, we undertake a contemplative study of the types and features of Chinese traditional plant patterns. (Research) In the Tang dynasty, the Bosang-wha Moon (floral medallion motif), a circular pattern, and the Gwon-cho Moon (floral scrolls), an "S"-shape pattern, were mainly used for decorative purposes in the shape of various animals, plants, or people. Combinations of these elements gave a dynamic flow to the patterns. Because Bosang-wha Moon and Gown-cho Moon are generally in the foreground of Tang dynasty plant patterns, this study analyzes examples of various elements of Tang dynasty architecture, focusing on the evolutionary process and character of the patterns. (Result)Tang plant patterns have symbolic, artistic, and spiritual characteristics. In the early Tang dynasty, symmetric, balanced shapes were used to represent simplicity. Later, after Western and Islamic religious influences had taken hold, repetition, alternation, and rhythm were implemented to demonstrate wealth and abundance.
