The most difficult problem in the analysis of photoelsticity is to determine crack tip position on the fringe pattern. Therefore, four parameter method which is able to use to solving crack tip point problem is suggested on this paper.

Minimization of the stress concentration is very important in the life cycle extension of structures and machine parts, which have cracks or notches. Industrial field, stop-hole is drilled on the structures and machine parts to prevent the origination and propagation of cracks and to reduce the stress concentration. But, there is no a study on the optimal dimension of stop-hole for the various loading and geometrical conditions. Therefore, in this study, a study on the optimal dimension of stop-hole with various conditions is done by photoelastic experimental method.
回轉圓板의 應力擴大係數에 관한 硏究 : Stress Freezing Method of Photoelastic Experiment

It is well known fact that the stress distributions in the vicinity of crack tip and fracture problems are governed by stress intensity factor which is presented as a function of the crack shape, boundary condition and loading mode etc. In. the determination of the stress intensity factor, there are many theoritical and experimental methods. Among them the stress freezing method of photoelastic experiment has been considered to be one of the most accurate experimental methods which have been used for stress analysis. In this paper, this method was applied to the rotating disk with inner arbitrary crack. The results of photoelastic experiment for disk with various straight cracks, radial and others which are oblique to the radical direction were as follows. In case of radial crack, in comparison with the results of photoelastic experiment obtained by stress freezing method and the theoritical solutions of Blauel, stress freezing method is fully available for analysis of uniform dynamic status.

The nonlinear analysis must be carried out when the deflection is large enough to cause non-linear behavior of the plate and the results of stress distributions are significantly different from those of ordinary small deflection theory. In present study, the nonlinear analysis of stiffened plate has been done based on von Karman's non-linear plate equations for isotropic plate using Lagrangian description finite element method. In this method, it is shown that the small deflection theory to the plate is applicable when the deflection of the plate is less than about a half of the plate thickness and above this range, large deformation theory is adequate. For the case of perforated rectangular plate with clamped boundary condition, it is found that the stress intensity of the edge reduces but that of the hole tip increases. In that case, doubler decreases the stress intensity at the tip, while stiffener decreases stress intensity at the tip and edge. It is also found that the maxinmum load carrying capacity of perforated stiffened plate increases 5 times as much as in the perforated plate. This method would be applied and extended to solve both geometrical nonlinearity and material nonlinearity problems and be useful to save computation time in engineering sense.

In this paper, when the initial propagation angle of a branched crack is calculated from the maximum tangential stress criterion (MTSC) and the minimum strain energy density criterion (MSEDC), it is essential that you use stress components in which higher order terms are considered and stress components at the position in a distance 0.005㎜ from the crack tip (=r). When an interfacial crack propagates along the interface at a constant velocity, the initial propagation angles of the branched crack are similar. to the mode mixities (phase angle) and the theoretical values obtained from MTSC and MSEDC. The initial propagation angle of the branched crack depends considerably on the stress intensity factor K$_2$.

In this research, the photoelastic experimental hybrid method with Hook-Jeeves numerical method has been developed: This method is more precise and stable than the photoelastic experimental hybrid method with Newton-Rapson numerical method with Gaussian elimination method. Using the photoelastic experimental hybrid method with Hook-Jeeves numerical method, we can separate stress components from isochromatics only and stress intensity factors and stress concentration factors can be determined. The photoelastic experimental hybrid method with Hook-Jeeves had better be used in the full field experiment than the photoelastic experimental hybrid method with Newton-Rapson with Gaussian elimination method.

Until now, photoelastic experimental hybrid method has been used the stress analysis of structure with internal or external circular hole or crack is called photoelastic experimental hybrid method for stress analysis of structure with the traction free surface. But the photoelastic experimental hybrid method for contact stress analysis of structure has not been developed. Therefore the photoelastic experimental hybrid method for contact stress analysis of structure is developed in this research, it’s validity is assured by photoelastic experiment..
