Jaehyeok Yang,Joon-Yeong Lee,Sun-Jae Lim,Hyeon-Min Bae IEEE 2014 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS PART 2 E Vol.61 No.11

A phase-rotator-based all-digital phase-locked loop for spread-spectrum clock generation is presented. It combines a dual-tone triangular and a random modulation profile to achieve a balance between electromagnetic interference reduction and broadband jitter generation. The test chip, fabricated using a 90-nm CMOS process, achieves a 43-dB total EMI reduction at the resolution bandwidth of 100 Hz without incurring a notable bit-error-rate penalty at the receiver's side and consuming only 15.8 mW at 6 GHz from a 1-V supply.

This study was conducted to observe the ignition delay time using a rapid compression machine (RCM). It also adapted high exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate by 9-10% O2 condition which is expected to lead low temperature combustion that result in decreasing NOx and soot emission. The experiments were performed using binary fuel of n-heptane and n-butanol so that the combustion characteristics of binary fuel were observed with changing the blending ratio. In addition, simulation of the ignition delay time was performed using CHEMKIN code to validate the experimental results and predict the chemical species after combustion process. Experiments showed that the ignition delay increased with increasing the n-butanol ratio in the mixture due to a decrease of oxidation of n-heptane at the low temperature. Moreover, all of the binary fuel mixtures indicated clear cool flame behavior at low temperature and negative-temperature -coefficient (NTC) behavior which is a characteristics of n-heptane as well.
Analysis of a Frequency Acquisition Technique With a Stochastic Reference Clock Generator
Jinho Han,Jaehyeok Yang,Hyeon-Min Bae IEEE 2012 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS PART 2 E Vol.59 No.6

This brief presents a theoretical analysis of the stochastic reference clock generator (SRCG), which creates a clock like periodic signal from a random nonreturn-to-zero data sequence. The output of the SRCG can be utilized as a reference clock for frequency acquisition in dual-loop clock-and-data recovery circuits. A frequency-locked loop (FLL) subsequent to the SRCG guides the voltage-controlled oscillator frequency into the pull-in range of the phase-locked loop while suppressing the high-frequency phase noise of the SRCG. The phase noise and frequency offset of the SRCG-FLL pair are analyzed. The validity of the theoretical analysis is supported by results taken from a test chip.

Vol.15 No.4
Amid increasing social demand for transparency and legal compliance in corporate management, companies are recognizing corporate internal investigation as an effective means to be responsive to such demand. Furthermore, significantly digitized working environment in companies adds to the importance of corporate internal investigation based on digital forensics. Companies’ increasing need for corporate internal investigation, however, contrasts with the reality in which most companies find themselves: in most cases, companies find it hard to determine how to investigate alleged facts and secure evidence or the extent to which the investigation can be performed. This is especially so when companies need to look into smartphone data. Companies’ efforts to ascertain facts and take necessary measures in response to allegations of embezzlement, bribery, workplace harassment, etc. are often fought back by individuals’ assertion of rights to privacy protection, which they rightly deserve and should not be thoughtlessly violated. In that context, this “Study on How to Reach a Consensus on Triage of Smartphone Data for Corporate Internal Investigations” aims to propose ways to minimize the violation of the privacy of individuals who become subject to internal investigation while conducting the investigation effectively in an impartial manner.

This paper presents the first free-space optical transceiver IC for social, psychological brain-computer interface experiments with multiple mice. The proposed IC embedded in a head-mounted module (HMM) includes 8-channel neural recorder and a neural stimulator in order to record extracellular action potentials and local field potentials while injecting diverse waveforms of monophasic intracranial stimulation current into the medial forebrain bundle for the activation of the nervous system. The HMM implanted on a mouse transmits the neural recording data to an optical base station by using a mandatory 591/624-nm (amber/red) visible behavior tracking LED as an optical transmitter to save power. The HMM is controlled simultaneously via a 940 nm infrared optical downlink to reduce interference to the visible optical uplink. The proposed IC fabricated in a 0.18-mu m HV BCDMOS process consumes 90 mu W while achieving a 2.048-Mb/s transmission rate.

Temperature-dependent Differences in Heading Response at Different Growth Stages of Rice
Lee, HyeonSeok,Choi, MyoungGoo,Lee, YunHo,Hwang, WoonHa,Jeong, JaeHyeok,Yang, SeoYeong,Lim, YeonHwa,Lee, ChungGen,Choi, KyungJin The Korean Society of Crop Science 2019 한국작물학회지 Vol.64 No.3
There is an increasing frequency in the occurrence of abnormal weather phenomena such as sharp increases and decreases in temperature. Under these weather conditions, the heading time of rice changes unexpectedly, which poses problems in agriculture. Therefore, we investigated the effect of temperature on the heading response at different growth stages in rice. During the period from transplanting to heading, the plants were subjected to different temperature treatments, each for a 9-day period, to observe the heading response. For the heading date analysis, "heading date" was defined as the number of days from transplanting to the appearance of the first spikelet. We found that the influence of temperature increased in the order of rooting stage, followed by meiosis, early tillering, spikelet differentiation, and panicle initiation stage in all ecological types and cultivars. In particular, unlike the results reported previously, the effect of temperature on heading during the photo-sensitive period was very small. Meanwhile, the influence of temperature on vegetative growth response at different growth stages was not consistent with heading response. These results can be used as basic data for predicting the variation in heading date owing to temperature variation at each growth stage. In addition, we propose that the concept of day length should be included in determining the influence of temperature on the photo-sensitive period.

Studies on the occurrence of rice preharvest sprouting (PHS) have primarily focused on temperature and rainfall duration at the time of PHS induction, but average temperature during grain filling can have a great influence on PHS. This study analyzed the effect of average temperature during grain filling on PHS occurrence and subsequent changes in grain quality after PHS. For two consecutive years, average temperature differences during grain filling were produced by varying the transplanting date. Artificial rainfall was treated under identical accumulated temperatures of 1200℃ after heading. It was confirmed that the occurrence of PHS was higher under high average temperature conditions during grain filling. In addition, the degree of grain quality reduction caused by PHS occurred more severely under high temperature conditions during grain filling. In order to reduce the risk of PHS occurrence and subsequent quality damage, it is important to control the planting date to avoid high-temperature conditions during grain filling.
