Since the knuckle, a core component for automobile suspension, directly supports the wheel, it needs strength and durability. Studies for improving durability of the knuckle have been done but most of them are focusing on knuckle for hollow type shape. The durability test has been conducted under a driving condition of lateral force mode, braking torque mode and steering input mode by using hydraulic actuator for spindle type steering knuckle of independent suspension applied for commercial vehicles. We’ve also carried out structural analysis and fatigue analysis by utilizing MSC.Patran, MSC.Nastran and MSC.Fatigue in order to compensate for weak parts of the knuckle upon the result of the test.
Renovation Activity of Engineering Education through ABEEK Accreditation

The paradigm shift due to fundamental socio-economic changes initiated and accelerated by globalization, digitization, and information is dramatically changing all aspects of education. In the mean time, as the phenomenon that teenagers are avoiding to study the science, the level of students who go to the school of engineering has decrea sed rapidly in quality and quantity causing a crisis in engineering education. The need for change in the traditional engineering education system in Korea has been evoked since 1998 when the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education in Korea (ABEEK) was about to be established. Yeungnam University has been one of the most active members in the Korean higher education institutes which participated in the ABEEK movement at the earliest stage. This paper is concerned about the efforts made by the Yeungnam University for the accreditation of engineering programs for the first time in Korea. The reformation and restructuring were made in many areas in order to estab lish the self-regulatory feed back loop system for the continuous renovation of engine ering education. The accreditation criteria were thoroughly investigated by individual programs, and the corrective actions were taken on the basis of critical assessments of the existing system.

Deepwater oil field development and production importance, which were uneconomical ,have been gradually increased because of the continuous rise in world energy demand and oil prices. Therefore, the overall interest in offshore industry has also steadily increased. Domestic offshore plant industry especially accounts for 35% of world plant industry (accounts for 70% of three main domestic shipbuilding companys sales) and also maintain the high technology superiority in offshore plant production market. Nevertheless, supporting plans are urgently needed for domestic small and medium-sized businesses, because the offshore plant equipment records rate less than 20% of localization. Accordingly we are looking for localization support plan by drawing up measures in international standardization development and test certification evaluation research foundation expansion plan for supporting domestic small and midium-sized company can easily enter the global market in the future through domestic and foreign test standard and current certification status analysis in offshore plan equipment.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae KNU5377 (KNU5377) and S. cerevisiae ATCC24858 (ATCC24858) were exposed to H₂SO₄ as a stress, which was added at various conto a YPD media. The growth of KNU5377 was reduced to approximately 60% in the YPD media containing 40 mM sulfuric acid when compared to the non-stressed condition. When their growth was monitored during an overculture, two strains, KNU5377 and ATCC24858, could not grow when exposed to over 50 mM of sulfuric acid. After a short exposure to this acid for 1 h, KNU5377 exhibited stronger resistance against H₂SO₄ than ATCC24858. The neutral trehalase activity of KNU5377 unchanged despite under various concentrations of H₂SO₄. In contrast, that of ATCC24858 was much low at higher H2SO4 concentrations. Trehalose, a non-reducing disaccharide, was maximally accumulated after a short exposure to 60 mM H₂SO₄ for KNU5377, but it was reduced under more severe stressful conditions. These results suggest that KNU5377 should modulate the trehalose concentrations under the severe stress condition of high sulfuric acid concentrations. The most highly induced protein in the KNU5377 exposed to sulfuric acid was found to be an approximately 23 kDa protein, which was revealed to be the 60S large subunit ribosomal protein, LB, by FAST A search results.
Feasibility of Bilateral Crossing C7 Intralaminar Screws : A Cadaveric Study
Baek, Tae-Hyun,Kim, Ilsup,Hong, Jae-Taek,Kim, Daniel H.,Shin, Dongsuk,Lee, Sang-Won The Korean Neurosurgical Society 2014 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.56 No.1
Objective : When the pedicle screw insertion technique is failed or not applicable, C7 intralaminar screw insertion method has been used as an alternative or salvage fixation method recently. However, profound understanding of anatomy is required for safe application of the bilaterally crossing laminar screw at C7 in clinic. In this cadaveric study, we evaluated the anatomic feasibility of the bilateral crossing intralaminar screw insertion and especially focused on determination of proper screw entry point. Methods : The C7 vertebrae from 18 adult specimens were studied. Morphometric measurements of the mid-laminar height, the minimum laminar thickness, the maximal screw length, and spino-laminar angle were performed and cross-sectioned vertically at the screw entry point (spino-laminar junction). The sectioned surface was equally divided into 3 parts and maximal thickness and surface area of the parts were measured. All measurements were obtained bilaterally. Results : The mean mid-laminar height was 13.7 mm, mean minimal laminar thickness was 6.6 mm, mean maximal screw length was 24.6 mm, and mean spinolaminar angle was $50.8{\pm}4.7^{\circ}$. Based on the measured laminar thickness, the feasibility of 3.5 mm diameter intralaminar screw application was 83.3% (30 sides laminae out of total 36) when assuming a tolerance of 1 mm on each side. Cross-sectional measurement results showed that the mean maximal thickness of upper, middle, and lower thirds was 5.0 mm, 7.5 mm, and 7.3 mm, respectively, and mean surface area for each part was $21.2mm^2$, $46.8mm^2$, and $34.7mm^2$, respectively. Fourteen (38.9%) sides of laminae would be feasible for 3.5 mm intralaminar screw insertion when upper thirds of C7 spino-laminar junction is the screw entry point. In case of middle and lower thirds of C7 spino-laminar junction, 32 (88.9%) and 28 (77.8%) sides of laminae were feasible for 3.5 mm screw insertion, respectively. Conclusion : The vertical cross-sectioned area of middle thirds at C7 spinolaminar junction was the largest area and 3.5 mm screw can be accommodated with 77.8 % of feasibility when lower thirds were the screw entry point. Thus, selection of middle and lower thirds for each side of screw entry point in spino-laminar junction would be the safest way to place bilateral crossing laminar screw within the entire lamina. This anatomic study result will help surgeons to place the screw safely and accurately.

Among the components of rotary hooks, a core component of an embroidery sewing system, a study was conducted to apply metal injection molding to the manufacture of a hook body and a housing that was very difficult to mechanical working. The correlation of feedstock, a mixture of binder and SCM 415 metal powder, and properties of the pressure-volume-temperature interrelationship, viscosity, specific heat, and thermal conductivity were measured. Injection molds for the hook body and the housing were developed through injection molding analysis using these properties and conducted injection tests. Optimal injection gate position and number, injection pressure, and injection time were obtained through a comparison of analysis results with the experiment results.
Early Surgical Treatment of Pronator Teres Syndrome
Lee, Ho Jin,Kim, Ilsup,Hong, Jae Taek,Kim, Moon Suk The Korean Neurosurgical Society 2014 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.55 No.5
We report a rare case of pronator teres syndrome in a young female patient. She reported that her right hand grip had weakened and development of tingling sensation in the first-third fingers two months previous. Thenar muscle atrophy was prominent, and hypoesthesia was also examined on median nerve territory. The pronation test and Tinel sign on the proximal forearm were positive. Severe pinch grip power weakness and production of a weak "OK" sign were also noted. Routine electromyography and nerve conduction velocity showed incomplete median neuropathy above the elbow level with severe axonal loss. Surgical treatment was performed because spontaneous recovery was not seen one month later.
