During tooth socket healing, the coagulum in the socket is replaced by fibrous connective tissue which undergoes mineralization and eventually becomes bone. Using this model, the healing process of the tooth socket and the role of type I collagen(CI), fibronectin(FN), bone sialoprotein(BSP), and osteopontin(OP) in the process were studied. Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 130-150gm were fed fi -aminopropionitcille for 5days before extraction of the first maxillary molars, and sacrified by perfusion with 4% paraformaldehyde at 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10days after tooth extraction. The socket and surrounding tissues were cut, demineralized, dehydrated and embedded in paraffin. For morphological observation, the sections were stained by Azan. Immunostaining of the ECM components was achieved by the avidin-biotin complex method. The results as follows; 1. Morphology of the tooth socket 1day after tooth extraction. The socket was filled with blood coagulum which was composed of densly aggregated red blood cells, platelets and fibrin network. 2. Morphology of the tooth socket 3days after tooth exyraction. A large portion of the coagulum was replaced by fibrous connective tissue contains a large number of fibroblasts, come from periphery of the socket. 3. At 5days, the newly formed bone demonstrated the highest proliferation activity. At 7days, the soclet was occupied with new bone. 4. Type I collagen was observed in the newly formed connective tissue and around the new bone. fiber. 5. Intensive staining for fibronectin was observed in granulation tissue, especially around blood vessels as well as inflammatory cells. 6. Strong immunostaining for bone sialoprotein and osteopontin was found in osteoblasts and new bone, while weaker staining was observed on dense connective tissue. 7. These data suggest that collagen and noncollagen proteins (FN, BSP, OP) an important role daring socket healing.

Vol.9 No.1

An integrated silicon pressure sensor has been designed, fabricated and tested. The signal conditioning circuits were designed to include calibration and temperature compensation of output voltage through trimming of diffusion and ion-implanted resistors. Before trimming of resistors, the compensation parameters such as pressure sensitivity, temperature coefficient of pressure sensitivity, temperature coefficient of piezoresistors and pressure sensitivity of piezoresistors were measured. Then offset voltage, span, and temperature coefficients of offset voltage and span were calibrated by trimming of resistors. The measured output voltage met our design specification and simulation value above room temperature. But, the measured output voltage at -30°C deviated from our design specification and simulation value because the offset voltages were found to vary randomly as a function of temperature.

      • Effect of the calcineurin inhibitor FK506 on K+-Cl- cotransporter 2 expression in the mouse hippocampus after kainic acid-induced status epilepticus.

        Shin, Hyun Joo,Jeon, Byeong Tak,Kim, Jungmee,Jeong, Eun Ae,Kim, Myeung Ju,Lee, Dong Hoon,Kim, Hyun Joon,Kang, Sang Soo,Cho, Gyeong Jae,Choi, Wan Sung,Roh, Gu Seob Springer 2012 Journal of neural transmission Vol.119 No.6

<P>Calcineurin (CaN)-mediated excitotoxicity impairs 관-aminobutyric acid (GABA) transmission and induces neuronal apoptosis. Ca(2+)-dependent K(+)-Cl(-) cotransporter 2 (KCC2) participates in GABAergic inhibitory transmission. However, the mechanism by which CaN mediates GABA receptor-mediated KCC2 in seizures is not fully understood. In the present study, we investigated the altered expression of KCC2 and the effects of the CaN inhibitor FK506 on KCC2 expression in the mouse hippocampus following kainic acid (KA) treatment. FK506 was injected twice 24 h and 30 min before KA treatment and then mice were treated with KA and killed 2 days later. FK506 had anticonvulsant effect on KA-induced seizure activities. CaN cleavage was evident in the hippocampus 24 h after KA treatment. FK506 pretreatment blocked the truncation of CaN in the KA-treated hippocampus. Cresyl violet and TUNEL staining showed that FK506 prevented KA-induced hippocampal cell death. In particular, Western blot analysis showed that KCC2 expression was time dependent, with a peak at 6 h and a return to decreased levels at 48 h, whereas FK506 pretreatment inhibited the KA-induced decrease in KCC2 expression in the hippocampus. Immunofluorescence showed that FK506 pretreatment protected the loss of inhibitory GABAergic KCC2-expressing neurons following KA treatment. Taken together, these results provide evidence that altered KCC2 expression may be associated with Ca(2+)-mediated seizure activity and indicate that neuron-specific KCC2 may be involved in neuroprotection after seizures.</P>

      • Selection of Sancho (Zanthoxylum schinifolium S.et Z.) Cultivar for Production of Essential Oils

Shin, Hyun-Tak,Lim, Joug-Trak,Goo, Kwan-Hyo national science museum of korea 2008 Journal of Korean nature Vol.1 No.2

In this study, a comparative study was made on seed weight and fruiting season in order to improve species of Chinese pepper tree (Zanthoxylum schinifolium S. et Z.) recently used for various purposes and intended to develop a new species. In a test group of Chinese pepper trees, 200 seeds were collected by fruiting seasons and cluster sizes of seeds and their major axis and minor axis and seed weight were measured. Dispersion analysis on difference by cluster size of seeds found that the major and the minor axis and the weight of seeds by cluster had significant differences at 95% of significance level. It was suggested that there were differences in the major and the minor and the weight of a seed by cluster size. It appears that it is more advantageous to develop the species of Chinese pepper tree having smaller cluster of seeds continuously, because a seed of smaller cluster has larger weight. In addition, a dispersion study by precocious, normal, and late ripening species found that there were significant differences in the major and the minor axis and the weight of seeds at 95% of significance level. It found that there were differences in the major and the minor axis and the weight of seeds by precocious, normal, and late ripening species and the weight of a seed and the precocious species had the largest seed weight, so it seems that it is more advantageous to develop the species focused on the precocious species. In conclusion, in order to develop a species of Zanthoxylum schinifolium S. et Z for production of an essential oil, it will be useful to develop species with smaller cluster size and more seeds based on the precocious species.

      • Flora of vascular plants in Natural Protection Zone of Hyangro-Bong and Mt. Gyeonbong-San, Korea

Shin, Hyun-Tak,Kim, Yong-Shik national science museum of korea 2008 Journal of Korean nature Vol.1 No.1

The purpose of this study is to present rare and endangered plant species exterminated by thoughtless development and gathering after investigating the flora of vascular plants in Hyangro-Bong and Mt. Gyeonbong-San designated as the natural protection zone, and to suggest the basic data for plant resources and trees conservation. The results of the study are followed. 1. As vascular plants clarified as the result of investigation, there were total 412 groups with total 75 families, 216 genuses, 352 species, 54 varieties, and 6 forms in Hyangro-Bong. In Mt. Gyeonbong-San, there were total 356 groups with total 80 families, 207 genuses, 301 species, 46 varieties, 6 breeds, 1 hybrid, and 2 subspecies. Taken altogether, it was investigated that total 528 groups were distributed in the natural protection zone of Hyangro-Bong and Mt. Gyeonbong-San with total 83 families, 267 genuses, 448 species, 67 varieties, 10 forms, 1 hybrid and 2 subspecies. 2. With respect to the endemic plants recorded in the natural protection zone of Hyangro-Bong and Mt. Gyeonbong-San, there were total 12 groups with total 10 families, 12 genuses, 9 species, 1 variety, 1 form and 1 hybrid in the area of Mt. Gyeonbong-San. In the area of Hyangro-Bong, there were total 18 groups with total 11 families, 16 genuses, 13 species, 4 varieties and 1 form. As the result of combining two areas, there were total 23 groups with total 16 families, 21 genuses, 16 species, 4 varieties, 2 forms and 1 hybrid.3. As the Ministry of Environment's endangered wild plants recorded in this investigation, 1 species of Paeonia obovata Maxim was found. As the rare and endemic plant species designated by Forest Service, there were total 5 groups with total 5 families and 5 genuseses in the area of Mt. Gyeonbong-San. Also, there were total 13 groups with total 9 families, 12 genuses, 12 species and 1 variety in the area of Hyangro-Bong. That is, it was confirmed that total 15 groups with total 9 families, 12 genuses, 14 species and 1 variety grew in the natural protection zone of Hyangro-Bong and Mt. Gyeonbong-San. 4. As the naturalized plant classified in this investigation, there were total 18 groups with total 7 families, 13 genuses, 17 species and 1 variety in the area of Mt. Gyeonbong-San. In the area of Hyangro-Bong, there were total 19 groups with total 8 families, 15 genuses, 18 species and 1 variety. Taken altogether, total 24 groups with 9 families, 17 genuses, 23 species and 1 variety were classified. Among the area of Hyangro-Bong and Mt. Gyeonbong-San, the top part and mountainside part were perfectly destroyed because of a military road. Because of an encampment construction, repair construction and the military strategy, the mountain's top part where the alpine plants inhabit has been destroyed. Because the army's shooting range is located in the area of Mt. Gyeonbong-San, it causes a serious damage. Accordingly, it is necessary to find out various restoration and preservation plans. Also, an efficient management of the Cultural Heritage Administration and the Ministry of Defense is required.
