Purpose: The purpose of the study was to forecast manpower by building the nursing manpower-staffing model(surgical-medical nursing unite). Method: The system dynamics approach was adapted to build a simulation model for calculating medical-surgical nursing manpower-staffing. The model was built up on Venism 5.0b DSS. Result: The results in the basic circumstance are in following. The level of nursing service quality, patientsatisfaction, and nurse job satisfaction maintains higher at medical-surgical nursing unit of the tertiary hospitals with the ratio of bed to nurse 2.5:1-3.0:1 than at any other situations. The level of nursing service quality, patient satisfaction, and nurse job satisfaction maintains higher at madical nursing unit of the secontary hospotals with the ratio of bed to nurse 3.0:1 and at surgical nursing unit of the secondary hospitals with the ratio of bed to nurse 3.0:1-3.5:1 than at any other situations in the fundamental from. The results in the simulation circumstance are in following, As author raises the operating rate of bed into 95-100%, and cut skilled nursing staff down, the level of nursing-service quality, patient satisfaction, and nurse job satisfaction drops slightly. Conclusion: In terms of economic efficiency on tertiary hospotals, the ratio of bed to nurse for the best reasonable medical-surgical nursing manpower-staffing is 3.0:1. In terms of economic efficiency on secondary hospitals, the ratio of bed to nurse for the best reasonable medical nursing manpower-staffing is 3.0:1 and surgical nursing manpower-staffing is 3.5:1
Estimates of Radiation Doses and Cancer Risk from Food Intake in Korea

<P>The aim of this study was to estimate internal radiation doses and lifetime cancer risk from food ingestion. Radiation doses from food intake were calculated using the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the measured radioactivity of <SUP>134</SUP>Cs, <SUP>137</SUP>Cs, and <SUP>131</SUP>I from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in Korea. Total number of measured data was 8,496 (3,643 for agricultural products, 644 for livestock products, 43 for milk products, 3,193 for marine products, and 973 for processed food). Cancer risk was calculated by multiplying the estimated committed effective dose and the detriment adjusted nominal risk coefficients recommended by the International Commission on Radiation Protection. The lifetime committed effective doses from the daily diet are ranged 2.957-3.710 mSv. Excess lifetime cancer risks are 14.4-18.1, 0.4-0.5, and 1.8-2.3 per 100,000 for all solid cancers combined, thyroid cancer, and leukemia, respectively.</P>

However with time the results show improvement. Conclusion: In terms of economic efficiency on tertiary hospitals, the ratio of bed to nurse for the best reasonable legal nursing manpower-staffing is 3.0:1(2.6:1 if calculating in terms of the ratio of patient to nurse). In terms of economic efficiency on secondary hospitals, the ratio of bed to nurse for the best reasonable legal nursing manpower-staffing is 3.5:1(3.0:1 if calculating in terms of the ratio of patient to nurse).
오디 추출물(Morus alba L.)의 혈행개선 효과

본 연구에서는 다양한 생리활성물질을 다량 함유하고 있는 국내산(전라북도 부안군) 오디의 혈액순환장애의 개선 효과를 확인하기 위하여 in vitro 및 고지혈증 동물모델을 이용한 실험을 진행하였다. MBE가 DPPH 라디칼을 50% 소거하는 SC50값은 89.36±5.46 μg/mL로 정제되지 않은 복합물질임을 감안하면 다른 식물추출물에 비해 항산화능이 우수함을 알 수 있었다. RAW 264.7 세포 및 HepG2 세포에 대한 MBE의 세포독성은 2,500 μg/mL 이하의 농도를 처리한 경우 세포독성을 나타내지 않았다. In vitro 실험에서 COX-2의 활성저해 효과를 측정한 결과 MBE의 IC50값은 215.94±18.15이었고, human LDL의 산화억제 효과는 최종반응 농도가 200 및 400 μg/mL일 경우 유의적인 감소(P<0.05)효과가 있었다. 또한 TNF-α에 의하여 활성화된 HUVECs에서 MBE가 증가된 ICAM-1 및 VCAM-1의 발현을 감소(P<0.05)시켰으며 LPS에 의하여 활성화된 RAW 264.7 세포에서 MBE가 증가된 COX-2 및 5-LO의 발현을 감소(P<0.05)시킴을 알 수 있었다. 고지혈증 동물모델을 이용한 실험에서 MBE의 일부 실험군(200 mg 및 400 mg/kg 체중/day, 14 days)에서 혈청 total cholesterol의 수치는 음성대조군에 비해 유의적으로 감소(P<0.05)시켰으나 혈청C-reactive protein의 수치는 모든 실험군에서 음성대조군 대비 유의적으로 감소하지 않았다. 이러한 MBE의 항산화능, COX-2 활성억제 및 COX-2와 5-LO의 발현억제를 통한 염증억제, 혈중 total cholesterol 감소를 통한 이상지질혈증의 개선 효과 및 ICAM-1과 VCAM-1의 발현억제를 통한 혈관협착 방지의 효과들을 종합해 보면 오디추출물인 MBE가 혈액순환장애를 유발하거나 확대시키는 다양한 핵심요소들을 다각도로 개선시킴으로써 혈액순환장애의 예방과 치료에 긍정적인 효과가 있을 것으로 사료된다. The objective of this study was to investigate the beneficial effects of mulberry extract (MBE) on blood flow improvement. The SC50 value for the DPPH radical scavenging activity of MBE was 89.36±5.46 μg/mL. Analysis of the cellular toxicity of MBE on RAW 264.7 and HepG2 cells showed no toxicity under a concentration of 2,500 μg/mL. We found that MBE inhibited the enzyme activity of cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 as well as oxidation of human LDL. Western blotting analysis showed that MBE inhibited protein expression of COX-2 and 5-lipoxygenase in RAW 264.7 cells. In addition, MBE inhibited protein expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Furthermore, MBE reduced the serum levels of total cholesterol and C-reactive protein in a concentration-dependent manner. These results both in vitro and in vivo suggest that MBE can be employed for the improvement of blood flow.
Postoperative Radiation for Soft Tissue Sarcoma

To evaluate the role of radiation and chemotherapy after limb-saving operation in the management of soft tissue sarcoma, the authors analysed retrospectively 33 patients treated in Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Radiation Therapy, Catholic University Medical College, in terms of survival rate, local recurrence and prognostic factors. The sex distribution was 16 males and 17 females. The age distribution ranged from 16 to 81 year old with mean age of 48. The follow-up period ranged from 1 year to 10 years with average of 5.5 years. The histologic diagnoses were 9 liposarcoma(27.2%), 8 MFH(24.2%), 7 unclassifiable(21.2%), 3 rhabdomyosarcoma(9.1%), and 3 fibrosarcoma(9.1%) in orders. While marginal and intralesional margins were gained in 24 patients(72.2%), wide and radical margins were obtained only in 9 patients(27.3%). On postoperative 3 weeks, local irradiation of 5000-7000 cGy was delivered to all patients by shrinking field technique for 5-8 weeks. Of 33 patients, 16(45.5%) patients were recieved adjuvant chemotherapy in combination of adriamycin, cyclophosphamide & vicristine, or VP16 & ifosfamide based on histologic type and obtained surgical margin. The survival rates at 2 years and 5 years were 58% and 37% respectively. Local recurrences occured in 15 patients(45.5%) at average 16 months after operation. In addition, the authors considered surgical margin, presence of local recurrence and tumor size as a significant prognostic factors.

One-dimensional coordination polymer of cadmium(II) complex, $[Cd(SCN)_2(C_4H_6N_2]_n$, has been prepared and characterized by X-ray single crystallography. Structure analysis reveals that each cadmium(II) atom is six-coordinated in distorted octahedral fashion with $CdS_2N_4$ composition. $CdS_2N_4$ composition contains two S and two N atoms from four thiocyanates and tow N atoms from two 4-methylimidazole ligands. Central cadmium(II) atoms are run in parallel to the a-axis and are doubly bridged with neighboring cadmium(II) atoms by the thiocyanate and isothiocyanate ligands. Thus, this complex has a one-dimensional polymer structure in which the 4-methylimidazole is in the trans conformation.
