The Chirisan gneiss complex is composed of various paragneisses and small amounts of orthogneisses metamorphosed in Precambrian, which are intruded by gabbroic rock, porphyritic granite and Namwon granite. The gneiss complex was undergone multimetamorhism that early high-grade progressive metamorphism reached to upper amphibolite facies, later amphibolite and epidote-amphinbolite facies(partially to greenschist facies) were overlapped by retrogressive metamorphism. Major mineral assemblage of those gneisses are biotite-garnet,biotitie-garnet-sillimanite,biotite-garnet-cordierite,biotite-garnet-cordierite-sillimanite. Coexisting minerals of 14 samples were analysed by EPMA. Metamorphic conditions were estimated using various experimental, theoretical geothermometers and geobarometers. They show wide ranges of temperature and pressure as 600∼750℃, 720∼820℃, 420∼550℃ of biotite-garnet, cordierite-garnet, alkali feldspar-plagioclase geothermometer and 4.6~6.2Kb, 4.5~7Kb of cordierite-garnet, plagioclase-garnet geobarometer, respectively. But peak metamorphic condition is about 700℃ with 4.67Kb(X=0.40) inferred by plotting of cordierite composition to the P-T diagram under consideration of H₂0 content. The metamorphic path, according to the inferred P-T conditions with the reaction of coexisting minerals and analyses of various geothermo-barometers, is considered that progressive peak metamorphism reached to upper amphibolite facies with partial melting under 700∼750℃, 4.67Kb of temperature and pressure, and later epidote-amphibolite facies was overlapped by the retrogressive metamorphism.

To estimate crack growth rate and cycle ratio uniquely, many investigators have developed various kinds of mechanical parameters and theories. But, these have produced local solution space through single parameter. Neural Networks can perform pattern classification using several input and output parameters. Fatigue damage model by neural networks was used to recognize the relation between da/dN/ N/N_f, and half-value breadth ratio B/Bo, fractal dimension D_f and fracture mechanical parameters in 2024-T3 aluminium alloy. Learned neural networks has ability to predict both crack growth rate da/dN and cycle ratio N/N_f within engineering estimated mean error(5%)

The image with non-contact and non-destructive measurement methods, might provide advantage to analyze and evaluate the condition of crops. It is necessary to develop a device for monitoring crops under the vinyl mulch which was protected from wild bird and weed control. Using digital image processing, the monitoring device for crops under the vinyl was developed. The monitoring system measured temperature distribution between soil and crops using an infrared temperature sensor. Based on the measured data analysis, the location of the crop under the vinyl mulch were estimated.

Pilomatricoma was histopathologically diagnosed in a 2.5-year-old male Alaskan malamute. The patient was referred to Chungnam National University, Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital with solitary, firm and well-circumscribed mass at shoulder. Grossly, the mass was dome shaped to tumor like and 10 x 8 x 5㎝ in size. Some lesions had gritty or bony consistency and was chalky when sectioned Histopathologic feature included mumerous clusters of tightly arranged, basaloid cells with evenly distributed chromatin and ghost cells were characterized by a central unstained zone. The ghost cells often become calcified and osseous metaplasia was also present.

Branchinotogluma segonzaci (Miura and Desbruyères, 1995) occurs in hydrothermal vent fields of the southwestern Pacific Ocean. We morphologically compared B. segonzaci from the North Fiji Basin with the original description from the Lau Basin and a subsequent study of specimens from the Manus Basin. The main characteristics of all B. segonzaci populations were similar having 21 segments, 10 pairs of elytra, cylindrical-shaped anterior lobes, and ventral papillae on segment 12 and ventral lamellae on segments 13-17 in males. However, the specimens from the North Fiji Basin had rounded to sub-renifrom elytra rather than oval in the original description. Additionally, we newly obtained 11 cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) DNA barcodes from the North Fiji Basin and Tonga Arc populations and compared them with known COI DNA barcodes of Branchinotogluma species. Thirteen sequences of B. segonzaci showed 0.0-1.07% intraspecific variation and formed two clades in the COI neighbor-joining tree, whereas the interspecific variation among Branchinotogluma species was 8.19-22.4%. The results of this study contribute to biogeographic studies of B. segonzaci and the evolution of polynoid scale worms in chemosynthesis-based ecosystems.
