        Variation in clinical usefulness of biomarkers of acute kidney injury in young children undergoing cardiac surgery

        Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the most significant postoperative complications of pediatric cardiac surgery. Because serum creatinine has limitations as a diagnostic marker of AKI, new biomarkers including neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), and interleukin-18 (IL-18) are being evaluated to overcome these limitations and detect AKI at an early stage after cardiac surgery. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the clinical usefulness of these biomarkers in young children. Methods: Thirty patients with congenital heart diseases who underwent cardiac surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) were selected, and their urine and blood samples were collected at baseline and 6, 24, and 48 hours after surgery. Serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels as well as NGAL, KIM-1, and IL-18 levels in urine samples were measured, and clinical parameters were evaluated. Results: Of the 30 patients, 12 developed AKI within 48 hours after cardiac surgery. In the AKI group, 8 of 12 (66.6%) met AKI criteria after 24 hours, and urine KIM-1/creatinine (Cr) level (with adjustment of urine creatinine) peaked at 24 hours with significant difference from baseline level. Additionally, urine KIM-1/Cr level in the AKI group was significantly higher than in the non-AKI group at 6 hours. However, urine NGAL/Cr and IL-18/Cr levels showed no specific trend with time for 48 hours after cardiac surgery. Conclusion: It is suggested that urine KIM-1/Cr concentration could be considered a good biomarker for early AKI prediction after open cardiac surgery using CPB in young children with congenital heart diseases.

        주물공장 근로자에서 발생한 국한성 석면폐증 1예

        배경: 주물공장 근로자에서 발생한 석면폐증의 작업 관련성을 평가하고 그 증례를 보고하고자 한다. 증례: 30년간 주물공장에서 근무한 환자로 인후통, 기침, 노란 가래가 있어 검사한 결과 결핵이 의심되어 치료 하였으며, 치료 중 석면폐증으로 진단되었다. 작업 관련성 평가를 위해 실시한 폐 조직의 조직학적 검사에서 1 cm^(2)당 3개의 석면소체가 발견되었고, 투과전자현미경으로 분석한 석면 함유량은 23.26x10^(6) fibers/g이었다. 결론: 작업환경조사, 폐 조직의 석면 분석 등을 통해 작업 관련성이 높다고 판단하였다. Background: Foundry workers are known to be exposed to silica and have an increased risk of Silicosis. There are also reports that state these foundry workers were associated with asbestos-related change in the X-ray results of the lungs. This report discusses a case of localized asbestosis developed in a foundry worker who worked in 12 Korean foundries. Case report: A 49-year-o1d man who worked at molding and melting for 30 years, Presented with sore throat, cough and yellow sputum for 1 month. From physical and clinical examination, Pulmonary tuberculosis was highly suspicious; therefore, he was medicated for 6 months. After tuberculosis medication, the radiological finding was reactivation of tuberculosis, and an asbestos body was detected at a trans-bronchial lung biopsy. During an operation, operators found multiple palpable masses and bullae 10calized in the right upper lobe (RUL) and performed right upper lobectomy and right middle lobe wedge resection. Using hematoxylin-eosin stain and iron stain, we could detect asbestos bodies by light microscopy. We analyzed the asbestos fiber burden in dry lung tissue by transmission electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (TEM-EDX). The fiber type was chrysotile and the fiber burden was 23.26 x 10^(6) fiber/g dry lung. Discussion: This case study of a foundry worker with localized asbestosis is uncommon in Korea. We found an occupational relationship between the foundry worker and localized asbestosis through various investigative techniques such as measurements taken at his working environment, clinical, radiological and pathological examination of the foundry worker and mineralogical examination of the asbestos fiber.

        Original Article : Geographic difference of epidemiological features of HCV infection in Korea

        Background/Aims: The prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in Korea exhibits significant geographic variation, with it being higher in Busan and Jeonam than in other areas. The reason for this intranational geographic difference was investigated in this study by conducting a comparative analysis of the risk factors related to HCV infection among three geographic areas: the capital (Seoul), Busan, and the province of Jeolla. Methods: In total, 990 patients with chronic HCV infection were prospectively enrolled at 5 university hospitals located in Seoul (n=374), Busan (n=264), and Jeolla (n=352). A standardized questionnaire survey on the risk factors for HCV infection was administered to these three groups of patients, and a comparative analysis of the findings was performed. Results: The analysis revealed significant regional differences in exposure to the risk factors of HCV infection. By comparison with patients in Seoul as a control group in the multivariate analysis, patients in Busan had significantly more experience of invasive medical procedures, acupuncture, cosmetic procedures, and multiple sex partners. In contrast, patients in Jeolla were significantly older, and they had a higher prevalence of hepatocellular carcinoma, a lower prevalence of multiple sex partners, and had experienced fewer invasive procedures. Conclusions: There was a significant geographic difference in the exposure to potential risk factors of HCV infection between patients from the three studied regions. This may explain the regional variation of the prevalence of HCV infection in Korea, and should be taken into account when planning strategies for the prevention and management of HCV infection.         녹차분말 첨가량에 따른 절편과 설기떡의 기호도 및 품질 특성

        This study was conducted to aerermine the sensory evaluation and the texture characteristics after making greentea Sulgidduk and Julpyun added to greentea powder in according to concentration which has nutritive value and medical effect of white Sulgidduk and Julpyun traditional dduk. Greentea Julpyun was better evaluated than Sulgidduk in color, flavor, hardness, chewiness and overall quality as the result of the sensory evaluation. In the whole sensory Julpyun was highly evaluated at the 3% of concentration of greentea powder but Sulgidduk was highly evaluated at 7% as the concentration of the greentea powder was getting stronger and stronger. In case of texture analysis hardness, cohesiveness, gumminess and chewiness of greentea Julpyun were getting lower by increase ofconcentration of greentea powder. The hardness, springiness, gumminess and chewiness of greentea Sulgidduk were lower by increase of concentration of greentea too. As the result of the measurement with texture analyser, Sulgidduk was lower than greentea Julpyun in the hardness, springiness, cohesiveness, gumminess and chewiness. As the result of the values of Hunter color system the lightness and redness of greentea Julpyun were the lowest when nothing was added. The lightness and redness of greentea Sulgidduk were the highest in nothing added group. The yellowness was the highest at 3% of added greentea amount. The results of correlation between the sensory properties and texture properties of greentea Julpyun showed that flavor described the lightness of measurement through texture and negative correlation, yellowness described positive correlation.

        This study was designed to observe the effects of the feeding Platycodon grandiflorum A.DC(PG) extract on the improvement of the lipids on serum in ovariectomized rats. To investigate the effects of ethanol extract, Sprague-Dawley female rats were randomly assigned to groups as follows: Sham, OVX-control and ovariectomized rats supplemented with PG at 50㎎/㎏ bw/day. Body weight gain was not significantly different in groups. The levels of total cholestcrol was higher in ovaiectornized control rats than Sham-operated rats, but supplementation of PG ethanol extracts at 50mg/kg bw/day decreased the level of cholesterol in surum. These results might be expected that ethanol extract of PG is believed to be possible protective effects for the fatty serum increasing serum lipid.

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference in mental health between female dancing-majors and other majors in order to recognize the value of it and to provide necessary basic data to popularize dancing. SCR-90-R was used for investigating the mental health. The results are follows : dancing-majors had significantly low response(It means that this group is mentally healthy) to somatization, depression anxiety, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation and psychiticism. However there is no significant difference in obsessive-compulsive behaviors, interpersonal sensitivity and hostility.

        샐러드 드레싱에 대한 소비자의 기호도와 이용 실태 조사 연구 : 대구지역을 중심으로

        This study was conducted to evaluate the consumers' preferences and perceptions on the salad and its dressings, via a total of 401 subjects in the Taegu area on the basis of 5-point Likert scale. Anthropometric data included the total subjects consisted of 66 females and 335 males: categorized by age, 20's (103), 30's (135). 40's (83), over 50's (80). The average size of family was 4.2 persons. According to BMI, 64.8% of the subjects belonged to the normal group. The age group that liked salad most was the 20's group, which was also the group that ate salad most frequently. The salad was perceived as food item which is convenient to eat(3.83), healthy(3.63), easy to prepare(3.63) and delicious(3.61) but rarely as a expensive item(2.44). The ingredients, used for salad preparation included fruits and vegetables (3.19) such as tomato and cucumber, Among the salad dressings, the fruit dressing was preferred the most(4.59), while the mayonnaise the least(3.59). The mayonnaise was perceived as an item with highest calories(4.1). and hardly perceived as a luxury item(2.78). The preference for the fruits dressing was highly correlated with the degree of education (p<0.05), age(p<0.001) and BMI(p<0.001). The higher the degree of education, the lower the level of age group, and the lower the BMI, the higher preference for the fruit salad dressing was demonstrated.

      • 볼링에 대한 참가여부와 몰입도가 생활만족과 정신건강에 미치는 영향

        The following study is to clarify the effects on the life satisfaction and the mental health of the participation or non-participation in bowling and the flow degree on it. and the purpose is to present the necessary theoretical foundations to activate bowling with the base on the actual data of social psychological value. The study targeted for the 126 housewife participants and 143 non-participants. a total of 269 people. We researched the flow degree in bowling base on the flow experience questionnaire of Omodei & Wearing(1990). the life satisfaction based on Life Satisfaction Index which Medley developed (1976) and the mental health based on Symptom, Check List-go Revision of Derogatis et al(1973) On the case of the participation or non-participation. the life satisfaction of the participants was higher than the non-participants as the result. There was no significant difference in the interpersonal sensitivity, hostility, phobic anxiety and psychiticism on the case of mental health However. the participants showed lower respond(it means they are healthful) than the non-participants significantly on the somatization. obsessive-compulsive, depression. anxiety and paranoid ideation. It was found that th higher flow degree. the superior life satisfaction and mental healthe in the bowling participant groups.

      • 한과에 대한 주부들의 이용실태 및 기호도 조사 : 대구지역을 중심으로

        The purpose of this study is finding a solution to increase the consumption of Korean cookies by investigating and analyzing the actual consumption patterns, suggestions for improvement and preferences for Korean cookies. The data for this study was collected from 358 housewives living in Daegu province. Results show that 77.4% of housewives in this locale eat Korean cookies on a special day such as memorial service day of ancestors, festive day or party. The frequency of having Korean cookies were significantly different due to the income (p<.05); the higher the income, the more often people had Korean cookies. They usually purchase Korean cookies on the market rather than making them by themselves. The percentile of housewives who have never made Korean cookies before was up to 51.7%. Only the housewives over fifty had some experience making the Korean cookies. The number of people who learned the method for making Korean cookies from their family elders increased according to their age. The reasons why they buy Korean cookies on the market are as follows: the most frequent answer (45.5%) was the price. 34.5% of the respondents did not know how to make them. 32.1% replied that the process is too complex and troublesome. The most frequent requests for the market was expanding the diversity and improving the quality. In response to why they want the Korean cookies to be inherited, 68.8% of respondents answered that it is traditional culture. 4.01% of respondents replied that 'ssalyeatgangung' is their favorite Korean cookie. 3.90% of them like 'sanja' the best and 3.91% of the housewives preferred yakwa to other Korean cookies. This study shows that the most preferred Korean cookies are yeatganjung, yakwa and sanja.
