Soft tissue defects in oral & maxillofacial region caused by tumor resection, trauma, congenital deformities have been treated in autogenous soft tissue flap, allogenic material, free dermal graft, fascia graft. Of these methods, autogenous dermis graft had initially been applied in hernia treatment at the beginning of nineteenth century and have been applied in soft tissue augmentation coverage of vital structure, dead space removal and reconstruction of fascia. A fat graft is used in reconstruction of orbit at the enucleation, restoration of facial contours, etc. In this case, patient with chin soft tissue defect in traffic accident was treated in autogenous dermis-fat graft from patient's abdominal and gluteal region. Chin defect was recons ructed favorably. There was no severe atrophy of grafted area 12 months postoperatively. We will report the result that is favorable esthetically with literature review.
유기용제 취급근로자들의 요중대사물질과 말초임파구 자매염색분체교환 발현빈도에 관한 조사연구

저자들은 유기용제 취급여성근로자 90명을 대상으로 1988년 7월부터 1989년 8월까지 말초혈액임파구에서의 자매염색분체교환의 발현빈도를 조사하고 이들의 업종, 근속연수, 요중마뇨산 농도등이 자매염색분체교환의 발현빈도에 미치는 영향을 조사하였으며 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 유기용제 취급근로자들의 말초혈액임파구에서의 자매염색분체교환의 발현빈도는 대조군에 비하여 유의하게 증가되었다. 2. 말초혈액임파구에서의 자매염색분체교환의 발현빈도가 가장 높은 업종은 프라스틱제품 제조업이었다. 3. 근속연수가 말초혈액임파구에서의 자매염색분체교환의 발현빈도에 미치는 영향은 현저하지 않았다. 4. 요중마뇨산농도와 말초혈액임파구에서의 자매염색분체교환의 발현빈도간에는 유의한 상관관계가 있었다. In order to know the possibility of utilizing the sister chromatid exchanges as an index which could evaluate the effect of organic solvents on the health in industrial workers, the authors studied the effects of the inductivity of sister chromatid exchanges in peripheral lymphocytes from 90 female workers expoxed to organic solvents and 20 non-exposed female workers. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The frequency of sister chromatid exchanges in peripheral lymphocytes from 90 female workers exposed to organic solvents was significantly increased in comparison with 20 control subject. 2. The frequency of sister chromatid exchanges was significantly increased in the workers who were employed in the manufacture of plastic materials than the other manufactures. 3. There were no significant differences in the frequency of sister chromatid exchanges by carriers of the exposed workers.
연쇄상구균의 약제내성과 전이성 R-plasmid의 특성

본 연구는 넙치 병어에서 분리된 연쇄상구균들의 항균제 내성 경향을 파악하고, 약제내성의 전이에 관여하는 R plasmid를 검출하여, 분리 균들 내에서 이들 plasmid의 분포를 알아보기 위하여 실시하였다. 넙치 병어에서 분리된 연쇄상구균 40 균주의 대부분은 ampicillin, doxycycilne (DOXY), erythromycin, florfenicol, flumequine, norfloxacin, osolinic acid, oxytetracycline (OTC)의 2~5약제에 동시내성을 나타내었다. 이들 내성균으로부터 내성 전이에 관여하는 R plasmid (pST9)가 검출되었으며, OTC와 DOXY내성이 R plasmid에 의하여 수용균인 Streptococcus sp.로 전이가 이루어졌다. 전이성 R plasmid의 분포를 알아보기 위하여 colony 혼성화 반응을 실시한 결과, 40 분리 균주 중 6 균주에 동일한 DNA 구조의 R plasmid가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 이들과 DNA 구조가 다른 R plasmid도 넙치병어에서 분리되는 연쇄상구균의 약제내성에 관여하고 있음을 시사하였다. MICs of 8 chemotherapeutic agents against forty streptococcal isolates were determined. These strains were isolated from diseased olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, and showed 2~5 multiple drug resistance against different antibacterial agents including ampicillin, doxycycline (DOXY), erythromycin, florfenicol, flumequine, norfloxacin, oxolinic acid, and oxytetracycilne (OTC). In conjugation experiment, we found transferable R plasmids carrying OTC and DOXY resistance determinant in 3 drug resistance strains analyzed. Six out of 40 isolates showed positive signal in colony hybridization with the R plasmid DNA (pST9) as a probe. It suggests that other types R plasmid different from pST9 is also involving in multiple drug resistance of streptococci isolated from olive flounder.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis(LCH) appears to arise from Langerhans cell and comprises a spectrum of clinical disease previously described in the literature by a variety of eponyms including histiocytosis X, eosinophilic granuloma, Hand-Christian disease, and Letterer Siwe syndrome. This rare disorder occurs in all groups, predominently affecting children & young adults. LCH has a wide spectrum of clinical features. The differentiation of several forms of this disease is primarily a clinical and not a histologic one. The radiographic characteristics include the appearance of solitary "intraosseous" lesios, the multipicity of "alveolar bone" lesions, the bone lesions, periosteal new bone formation, and slight root resorption. Prognosis of a single bone lesion, is known to be excellent. In contrast, disseminated disease has seen associated with a chronic course, a high rate of morbidity and late consequences, and possible mortality. Treatment of LCH remains problematic. Treatment of multisystem disease, where organ function is being compromised has generally been with high-dose systemic corticosteroids or multiple chemotherapy.

Deep burns of the face & lips often lead to scarring and contraction of the circum-oral tissues with a marked reduction in the size of the oral aperture. Such burns most commonly caused by electrical contact, for example, children sucking electric plugs, or as a result of chemical burns and the exposture to flame. Once having burns, burned tissue may contract and reduce considerably the size and mobility of the mouth ; therefore bring up the resultant functional disturbance, verbal difficulty, even disgestive difficulty, and poor appearance, which fall into difficulty in social acceptability, caused by burns. In our department, 2 patients who were complain of functional limitations and esthetic problem owing to scar contracture, were visited, and we treated this microstomia with scar excision, graft and flap technique, and postoperative intensive physical therapy. We obtained relatively favorable results, thus report this cases with literature review.
Unconstrained Sleep Apnea Monitoring Using Polyvinylidene Fluoride Film-Based Sensor

<P>We established and tested an unconstrained sleep apnea monitoring method using a polyvinylidene (PVDF) film-based sensor for continuous and accurate monitoring of apneic events occurred during sleep. Twenty-six sleep apnea patients and six normal subjects participated in this study. Subjects' respiratory signals were measured using the PVDF-based sensor during polysomnography. The PVDF sensor comprised a 4 × 1 array, and a thin silicon pad was placed over the sensor to prevent damage. Total thickness of the merged system was approximately 1.1 mm which was thin enough to prevent the subject from being consciously aware of its presence. It was designed to be placed under subjects' backs and installed between a bed cover and mattress. The proposed method was based on the standard deviation of the PVDF signals, and it was applied to a test set for detecting apneic events. The method's performance was assessed by comparing the results with a sleep physician's manual scoring. The correlation coefficient for the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) values between the methods was 0.94 (p <; 0.001). The areas under the receiver operating curves at three AHI threshold levels (>5, >15, and >20) for sleep apnea diagnosis were 0.98, 0.99, and 0.98, respectively. For min-by-min apnea detection, the method classified sleep apnea with an average sensitivity of 72.9%, specificity of 90.6%, accuracy of 85.5%, and kappa statistic of 0.60. The developed system and method can be applied to sleep apnea detection in home or ambulatory monitoring.</P>
Glycoalkaloids content in tuber peel and cortex of 24 potato cultivars of Korea

Potato glycoalkaloids(PGAs) are potentially toxic to humans at high levels and current safety regulations have recommended that PGAs content in tubers of potato cultivars should not exceed 20 mg/100g·FW. Accordingly, it is important to determine the PGAs composition and levels on potato cultivars for food safty and the breeding for new cultivars with low levels of PGAs. The main aim of this study was to evaluate α-chaconine, α-solanine and total PGAs content in the peel and cortex portions in 24 cultivars including ‘Haryoung’, ‘Goun’, ‘Hongyoung’ and ‘Jayoung’, recently released by Highland Agricultural Research Institute. The total PGAs ranged from 3.1 to 10.1 mg/100g·FW. 75-94% of total PGAs was existed in the peel part of all cultivars. We selected two cultivars, which can be eaten wth the skin on tubers, and so used for soy sauce braised potatoes and baby potatoes for the rest area. These results will provide consumers and breeders with fundamental information about the content of PGAs in Korea major cultivars.
