Hung-Li Wang,Chin-Song Lu,Tu-Hsueh Yeh,Yu-Ming Shen,Yi-Hsin Weng,Ying-Zu Huang,Rou-Shayn Chen,Yu-Chuan Liu,Yi-Chuan Cheng,Hsiu-Chen Chang,Ying-Ling Chen,Yu-Jie Chen,Yan-Wei Lin,Chia Chen Hsu,Huang-Li 대한신경과학회 2019 Journal of Clinical Neurology Vol.15 No.4
Background and Purpose It is essential to develop a reliable predictive serum biomarker for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Te accumulation of alpha-synuclein (αSyn) and up-regulated expression of Rab35 participate in the etiology of PD. Te purpose of this investigation was to determine whether the combined assessment of serum αSyn and Rab35 is a useful predictive biomarker for PD. Methods Serum levels of αSyn or Rab35 were determined in serum samples from 59 sporadic PD patients, 19 progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) patients, 20 multiple system atrophy (MSA) patients, and 60 normal controls (NC). Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves were calculated to determine the diagnostic accuracy of αSyn or/and Rab35 in discriminating PD patients from NC or atypical parkinsonian patients. Results The levels of αSyn and Rab35 were increased in PD patients. The serum level of Rab35 was positively correlated with that of αSyn in PD patients. Compared to analyzing αSyn or Rab35 alone, the combined analysis of αSyn and Rab35 produced a larger area under the ROC curve and performed better in discriminating PD patients from NC, MSA patients, or PSP patients. When age was dichotomized at 55, 60, 65, or 70 years, the combined assessment of αSyn and Rab35 for classifying PD was better in the group below the cutof age than in the group above the cutof age. Conclusions Combined assessment of serum αSyn and Rab35 is a better biomarker for discriminating PD patients from NC or atypical parkinsonian patients, and is a useful predictive biomarker for younger sporadic PD patients.

The problem of circumnavigating a moving target in a three dimensional setting by a network of agentswhile avoiding inter-agent collisions is addressed in this paper. A distributed control strategy is proposed for themulti-agent system to achieve three objectives: reaching the target plane with predesigned orientation, circulatingaround the target with prescribed radius, and avoiding collisions among agents. After representing the controlobjectives by three potential functions, the gradient fields of which are orthogonal to each other, the control lawthen is developed using the gradient vector field-based approach. The novelty of the proposed controller lies in theorthogonality of the vector fields, which decouples the control objectives and ensures global asymptotic convergenceto the desired motion, subject to some mild initial condition constraints. The stability and convergence analysis arepresented using Lyapunov tools, and the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is demonstrated throughnumerical simulations.

Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) is the rate-limiting enzyme in polyamine biosynthesis and a target for chemoprevention. Hydroxydibenzoylmethane (HDB), a derivative of dibenzoylmethane of licorice, is a promising chemopreventive agent. In this paper, we investigated whether HDB would inhibit the ODC pathway to enhance apoptosis in human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 cells. We found ODC enzyme activity was reduced during HDB treatment. Overexpression of ODC in HL-60 parental cells could reduce HDB-induced apoptosis, which leads to loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (${\Delta}{\psi}_m$), through lessening intracellular ROS. Furthermore, ODC overexpression protected cytochrome c release and the activation of caspase-3 following HDB treatment. The results demonstrated HDB-induced apoptosis was through a mechanism of down-regulation of ODC and occurred along a ROS-dependent mitochondria-mediated pathway.

The aim was to determine whether ultrasound targeted microbubble destruction (UTMD) promotes dual targeting of HSP72 and HSC70 for therapy of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), to improve the specific and efficient delivery of siRNA, to induce tumor cell specific apoptosis, and to find new therapeutic targets specific of CRPC.VCaP cells were transfected with siRNA oligonucleotides. HSP70, HSP90 and cleaved caspase-3 expression were determined by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting. Apoptosis and transfection efficiency were assessed by flow cytometry. Cell viability assays were used to evaluate safety. We found HSP72, HSC70 and HSP90 expression to be absent or weak in normal prostate epithelial cells (RWPE-1), but uniformly strong in prostate cancerous cells (VCaP). UTMD combined with dual targeting of HSP72 and HSC70 siRNA improve the efficiency of transfection, cell uptake of siRNA, downregulation of HSP70 and HSP90 expression in VCaP cells at the mRNA and protein level, and induction of extensive tumor-specific apoptosis. Cell counting kit-8 assays showed decreased cellular viability in the HSP72/HSC70-siRNA silenced group. These results suggest that the combination of UTMD with dual targeting HSP70 therapy for PCa may be most efficacious, providng a novel, reliable, non-invasive, safe targeted approach to improve the specific and efficient delivery of siRNA, and achieve maximal effects.

Li, Yue,Yu, Yong-Ji,Wang, Yu-Heng,Liu, Hang,Liu, He-Yan,Jin, Guang-Yong Optical Society of Korea 2018 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.2 No.6
A $Nd:YVO_4$ laser dual-end-pumped by a wavelength-locked 878.6 nm laser diode is presented. At the repetition rate of 500 KHz, the absorbed pump power of 58 W, an output power of 26.1 W at 1064 nm is obtained, corresponding to an optical-optical efficiency of 45%. The pulse width is 44.2 ns. Meanwhile, the effects of traditional 808 nm pumping and 878.6 nm dual-end-pumping on the output laser beam quality and pulse width are compared and analyzed in an experiment.

The screening and identification of suitable reference genes are key steps in experiments involving the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. However, the reference genes of Kerria lacca, a lac insect with considerable economic significance, have not been investigated. In this study, we used five statistical algorithms (ΔCt, geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper, and RefFinder) to evaluate the stability of eight candidate reference genes (18S rRNA, 28S rRNA, β-ACT, EF1-α, RPL10, RPL13, RPS11,andRPS15) in different developmental stages and tissues of K. lacca and under dsRNA treatment. Our results showed that the most stable reference genes were 28S rRNA and RPS11 for the developmental stages, RPL13 and RPS11 for different tissues, and β-ACT and EF1-α for dsRNA treatments. Although the target genes FA S and 17β-HSD showed consistent expression profiles (alone or in combination) when normalized to the expression levels of the stable genes, those changed when the least stable reference gene (18S rRNA) was used. These results highlight that suitable reference genes should be chosen according to the specific experimental conditions used. The reliability and stability of different reference genes can provide a firm foundation for gene expression analysis in lac insects.
Stock Market Valuation of R&D Expenditure and Corporate Governance
Hung-Kun Chen,Li-Hong Hong,Yanzhi Wang 한국재무학회 2012 한국재무학회 학술대회 Vol.2012 No.09
This paper examines whether firms with more research and development (R&D) expenditure earn higher return when they have good corporate governance. After controlling for many asset pricing factors in the existing literature, such as size, book-to-market ratio, momentum, asset growth, accruals, and abnormal capital expenditure, we find that R&D-intensity firms indeed earn higher stock returns when they experience well-established corporate governance. This finding suggests that good governance is able to prevent potential overinvestment in R&D spending and thereby increase the rate of returns on R&D spending firms. Namely, R&D strategy, in terms of buying well governance R&D investing firms, is more effective in well-governed firms.
An Experimental Study to Improve Due-date Performance
Wang, Mei-Ting,Li, Rong-Kwei,Chen, Ching-Piao,Chen, Hsien-Ching,Tsai, Chih-Hung The Korean Society for Quality Management 2009 The Asian Journal on Quality Vol.10 No.3
Due-date performance (DDP) is a very important performance indicator for the companies. Thus, companies with a high hit rate would have greater competitive advantage; on the contrary, companies that delay customers' orders frequently would lose sales opportunities and reputations. Therefore, there were many academic studies and practical efforts to improve DDP in the past, but the problem of low hit rate still exists. In order to increase the hit rate, some companies have focused on reducing the variation, while others focus on production management, but is the real problem affecting the low rate variability or production management? This is indeed difficult to be validated through practice. Therefore, this study designed three scenarios, tested each scenario for 30 times, each test involved seven subjects. The tests were to provide counter-evidence in the Job Shop environment without variation. If the variation is the main factor of affecting hit rate, the rate at this time should be good; otherwise, the assumption that variation is the main cause is rebutted. The results demonstrated that production management planning is the main cause, and the method of enhancing the hit rate is obtained during the test.

Li Yu-Chi,Feng Yin-Hsun,Ma Shu-Ching,Wang Hsiu-Hung 한국간호과학회 2023 Asian Nursing Research Vol.17 No.1
Purpose: Dignity is a basic human right that is related to psychological distress factors in patients with cancer such as depression and demoralization. Hence, the dignity issue is of great importance to healthcare professionals. The present study aimed to advise healthcare professionals regarding the related distress factors of dignity in patients with cancer by investigating its relationship with patients’ demographics, disease characteristics, and psychological distress. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study design. A convenience sample of 267 patients with cancer from a medical center was recruited into this study. Each patient completed demographics and disease characteristics questionnaires, the Patient Dignity Inventory Mandarin Version, the Demoralization Scale Mandarin Version (DS-MV), and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Data were analyzed with SPSS 22.0 software. Results: Dignity was significantly correlated with age, demoralization, and depression. Cancer patients aged 65 or above were more likely to have a lower sense of dignity. In the present study, the sensitivity and specificity of the Patient Dignity Inventory Mandarin Version for demoralization (DS-MVꠑ30) were 84.8% and 79.1% and for depression (PHQ-9ꠑ10) were 73.8% and 70.9% in patients with cancer with an aggregate score of 35 or above. Conclusions: Dignity is significantly correlated with personal demographic characteristics and psychoꠓlogical distress in patients with cancer. The results provide reference data for healthcare professionals to understand and enable dignity in patients with cancer and aid in the development of methods that promote their dignity
