From Symbol of Rosette of Mesopotamia to Explore Relationship between Form and Culture
( Huang Ya-ling ) 한국기초조형학회 2019 한국기초조형학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.2019 No.1
Eagle God in the ancient Assyrian cultural relief. There is no specific complete information in the existing museum collections, which shows the symbolic meaning of the said pattern. Therefore, this thesis carries out the literature review to find more specific significance of artistic form and proposes a viewpoint different from that in traditional studies of rosette pattern.
Alternative technological learning paths of Taiwanese firms
Huang Ya-Ling,Intarakumnerd Patarapong 기술경영경제학회 2019 ASIAN JOURNAL OF TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION Vol.27 No.3
The OEM–ODM–OBM paths of technological learning of late-comer firms are well documented in previous studies. Taiwan is one of the leading countries taking this traditional path. By using five cases of Taiwanese firms in mature industries like machinery, electronics parts, food processing and furniture, and in an emerging industry like 3D camera, explore alternative technological learning paths. It aims to explain how alternative paths happened and evolved overtime. Four alternative learning strategies were found: independent suppliers, startups, path breakers and specialization in high-valued activities. Government financial incentives for R&D and new product/system development beyond existing activities under OEM/ODM arrangement; supports from universities, public research institutes to develop sophisticated technological and innovative capabilities; and assistance from international trade promotion agencies, and government-sponsored industrial associations for accessing new and niche markets in advanced countries are important for firms to pursue these alternative technological learning paths.

This study explored student teachers’ reflections on the use of drama in education (DIE) to motivate young children’s science play during a course, “creative science activity design for young children,” at a teacher development program in southern Taiwan. The participants comprised 21 student teachers who took the course taught by both researchers. Participants designed science play activities using DIE strategies and implemented the a for a group of preschool children. The data sources employed in this study were observations, interviews, and collected documents. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The findings revealed that the DIE strategies adopted by the student teachers included warm-up, improvisation, and story roleplaying. The results indicated that the student-teachers considered drama to have aroused the children’s motivation to engage in science play. Advantages and challenges relating to the application of DIE strategies in science play were presented. Suggestions for future implementation of and research on DIE strategies in science play are presented herein.

Background: Ginsenoside Rg3, isolated from Panax ginseng, has anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activities. It is known to reduce inflammation in acute lung injury in mice, and to reduce the expression ofinflammatory cytokines and COX-2 in human asthmatic airway epithelium. In this study, we attemptedto determine whether ginsenoside Rg3 inhibits airway inflammation, oxidative stress, and airwayhyperresponsiveness (AHR) in the lungs of asthmatic mice. We also investigated its effects on oxidativestress and the inflammatory response in tracheal epithelial cells. Methods: Asthma symptoms were induced in female BALB/c mice sensitized with ovalbumin (OVA). Micewere divided into five groups: normal controls, OVA-induced asthmatic controls, and asthmatic micetreated with ginsenoside Rg3 or prednisolone by intraperitoneal injection. Inflammatory BEAS-2B cells(human tracheal epithelial cells) treated with ginsenoside Rg3 to investigate its effects on inflammatorycytokines and oxidative responses. Results: Ginsenoside Rg3 treatment significantly reduced eosinophil infiltration, oxidative responses, airway inflammation, and AHR in the lungs of asthmatic mice. Ginsenoside Rg3 reduced Th2 cytokineand chemokine levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluids and lung. Inflammatory BEAS-2B cells treated withginsenoside Rg3 reduced the eotaxin and pro-inflammatory cytokine expressions, and monocyteadherence to BEAS-2B cells was significantly reduced as a result of decreased ICAM-1 expression. Furthermore, ginsenoside Rg3 reduced the expression of reactive oxygen species in inflammatory BEAS-2B cells. Conclusion: Ginsenoside Rg3 is a potential immunomodulator that can ameliorate pathological featuresof asthma by decreasing oxidative stress and inflammation

Dietary flavonoids have various biological functions, and there is increasing evidence that reduced prevalence and severity of allergic reactions are associated with the intake of flavonoids. Among natural flavonoids, apigenin is a potent anti-inflammatory agent. However, the mechanisms of apigenin's effect remain uncertain. Monocyte-derived chemokine (MDC) plays a pivotal role in recruiting T-helper (Th) 2 cells in the allergic inflammation process. In the late phase of allergic inflammation, the Th1 chemokine interferon-inducible protein 10 (IP-10) has also been found in elevated levels in the bronchial alveolar fluid of asthmatic children. We used human THP-1 monocyte cells, pretreated with or without apigenin, prior to lipopolysaccharide stimulation. By means of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, we found that apigenin inhibited production of both MDC and IP-10 by THP-1 cells and that the suppressive effect of apigenin was not reversed by the estrogen receptor antagonist ICI182780. The p65 phosphorylation of nuclear factor κB remained unaffected, but the phosphorylation of p38, c-Jun N-terminal kinase, and extracellular signal-regulated kinase mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways were all blocked. We found that inhibition of c-raf phosphorylation might be the target of apigenin's anti-inflammation property.
Hepatocyte and mesenchymal stem cell co-transplantation in rats with acute liver failure
Cheng-Maw Ho,Ya-Hui Chen,Chin-Sung Chien,Shu-Li Ho,Hui-Ling Chen,Rey-Heng Hu,Po-Huang Lee 대한이식학회 2020 Korean Journal of Transplantation Vol.34 No.2
Background: Cell therapy is considered a potential alternative to liver transplantation in acute liver failure (ALF). We aimed to evaluate the add-on therapeutic benefit of hepatocyte and mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) cotransplantation over hepatocyte-only transplantations in a rat model of ALF. Methods: ALF was induced by D-galactosamine in Sprague-Dawley rats. Freshly isolated donor hepatocytes were derived from Tg (UBC-emGFP) rats and MSCs were collected from the bone marrow cells of DsRed rats. Donor hepatocytes (1×107/mL) were intraportally transplanted 24 hours after treatment with D-galactosamine over a 70-second interval, and donor MSCs (0.5, 1, or 2×106/0.5 mL) were intraportally transplanted 1 hour after the hepatocyte transplantation was complete. Animals were sacrificed after 7 and 14 days and subjected to donor cell identification, liver histology, serologic testing, and immunohistopathological examination. Results: MSCs were observed in the periportal area, 1 and 2 weeks after transplantation. Transplanted hepatocytes did not actively proliferate when compared to hepatocyte-only transplantation. Morphologically, transplanted MSCs did not appear to differentiate into hepatocytes even 2 weeks after transplantation. Cotransplantation of MSCs was associated with lower macrophage infiltration, and reduced type I collagen, hepatocyte growth factor, tumor necrosis factor-α, and interleukin 10 expression, with similar gene expression profiles for epidermal growth factor and interleukin 6, when compared to hepatocyte-only transplantation. Conclusions: Hepatocyte and MSC cotransplantation is feasible and safe in rat models of ALF. MSCs were found to survive the process and could be located within the periportal niches 2 weeks after treatment, without enhancing transplanted hepatocyte proliferation or differentiating into hepatocytes, while ameliorating the inflammatory response.

Aims: Primary liver progenitor cell cancer is a rare disease entity without definite evidence and characterization. Current nomenclature of primary liver cancer with prominent progenitor features is not comprehensive. This study was aimed to investigate the existence of this kind of primary liver cancer and characterize it immunohistopathologically based on the emerging understanding of cancer stem cell pathobiology. Methods: Surgical specimens from primary liver cancer which posed diagnostic difficulty fitting within current WHO classification of combined hepatocellular-cholangiocellular carcinoma with stem-cell features according to the growth morphology and its suggested immunohistochemical features, were stained with antibodies against well-defined markers of progenitor cells, stemness, and differentiation toward hepatocytes or cholangiocytes. Comparative interpretation of images was processed considering the histological morphology and characteristic markers. Results: The primary liver cancer consisted of CD24+ cancer progenitor cells and CD90+ mesenchymal stromal cells, which were intimately mixed. CD24+ cancer cells demonstrated bi-directional trends of differentiation: bile ductule transformation (cytokeratin 19+, epithelial cell adhesion molecule [EpCAM]+, neural cell adhesion molecule [NCAM]+, CD133+, and delta-like 1 homolog [DLK1]+); and trabecular or nested cell clusters toward hepatic lineage (hepatocyte nuclear factor-4 alpha [HNF-4α]+, Hep Par1+ and negative for CK19, EpCAM, CD133, and DLK1). Moderate lymphocyte (mostly CD4+ and CD8+ T cells) infiltrated in the CD90+ cancer- associated stroma. Conclusions: We provided the corroboration that liver progenitor cells can form primary liver cancer, not just presented as few side population of cancer stem cells. Its existence might pose significance for future stem cell therapeutic intervention targeting liver diseases, albeit the disease is rare.
