        Segmentation by Preference of Chinese Tourism Festival Visitors

        관광축제분야는 개발의 용이성과 소비자의 다양한 요구를 충족할 수 있는 특성으로 인해 전 세계적으로 빠른 성장을 거듭하고 있다. 특히, 관광시장이 지속적으로 성장하고 있는 중국의 관광시장에서 축제상품은 높은 관심의 대상이 되고 있다. 본 연구는 중국의 잠재관광객을 대상으로 조사를 수행하여, 선호하는 축제유형을 알아보고, 선호유형에 따른 잠재시장 분석하였다. 분석결과 선호축제유형에 따라 4개의 세분시장이 도출되었으며, 각 시장의 특성을 알아보기 위한 분석과정을 진행하였다. 본 연구를 통해 중국 잠재관광객의 선호시장 유형을 알아볼 수 있었으며, 그에 따른 세분시장을 도출 할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 결과는 관광축제 개발자들에게 축제의 특성에 따른 표적시장 수립에 용이하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다. There has been a rapid growth in terms of numbers and diversity of festivals in China. With the increasing of festivals attended by residents and tourists, it is essential for festival managers to develop a profile for visitors that can guide marketing and developing procedures. This study aims to segment potential visitors to Chinese tourism festivals based on their preferences and to find out the characteristics of each segmented group. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, a survey is conducted to Chinese potential visitors. As the results, four clusters are derived from cluster analysis. And significant differences and characteristics are found among the clusters. Based on the segmentation results, some marketing strategies are proposed for festival managers to develop their festivals and to find their target markets.

        The Effects of Festival Service Quality on Brand Equity

        This study is to examine the relationship between festival service quality and brand equity. Based on the literatures, dimensions of brand equity are defined. The relationship between festival service quality factors and brand equity are to be investigated. At the same time, which factors of festival service quality have effects on the dimensions of brand equity need to be found out. In order to achieve the objectives, a survey is carried out towards festival visitors who attended Gimje Horizon Festival. In general, the results confirm that festival service quality in terms of program quality, information quality, physical facilities quality and products quality have a positive effect on building brand equity. Festival visitors can increase their familiar with festival brand through the experience of various program, getting more information about the festival and seeing physical facilities with festival symbols. And festival brand image can be derived from all brand related activities provided by festival. Direct experience such as hands-on experience programs, purchasing festival products, or using festival facilities can make effects on building festival brand image.

        Preparation of Robust Aramid/Epoxy Composites through Enhancing the Interface Performance by Nanocoating Solution

        Aramid fiber reinforced composites (AFRC) have attracted considerable attention because of its high strength andmodulus. But the poor interface due to the smooth fiber surface and few active groups limits the application of the finalcomposites. In this study, robust AFRC was achieved via dip-coating approach. Instead of Kevlar fiber, sulfonefunctionalizedpoly(p-phthaloyl-p-phenylenediamine) (SPPTA) was served as precursor to prepare nanocoating solution. Byfurther grafting epichlorohydrin (ECH) and Shellac (SLC), the functional coating solution was obtained. After modification,the roughness and the polarity of the fiber were considerably improved. The modified AF/epoxy composites showedexcellent interfacial bonding and mechanical properties. For the sample grafted with SLC, the interfacial shear strength(IFSS) reached 43.7 MPa with a significant enhancement by 21.4 %; while the inter-laminar shear strength (ILSS) reached48.6 MPa with a reinforcement of 45.9 %. The flexural strength and tensile strength were increased to 283 MPa and831 MPa, indicating that the study provides an effective method to achieve high strength AFRC.

        Gravity effect of silica and polystyrene particles on deposition pattern control and particle size distribution on hydrophobic surfaces

        Ring-like residual deposits are often observed after drying suspension droplets on surfaces. That introducesa crucial defect in practical applications, such as ink-jet printing that requires a uniform deposit. In this study, depositions after drying sessile/pendant droplets with silica/polystyrene particles wereexamined to identify the effect of gravitational sedimentation of particles on self-pinning and depositionpattern. The suspension droplet with larger polystyrene (or silica) particles would trigger the self-pinningat larger (or smaller) particle concentrations. The deposition pattern of pendant drops with silica particlesis hill-like. This is due to the large density difference between silica and water to induce high sedimentationvelocity, and the particles would precipitate and aggregate along the air–liquid interface to form ahollow shell deposit. The depositions for suspensions with bi-dispersed particles, the larger silica particleswould accumulate at the bottom of the deposit due to the higher sedimentation velocity, in contrastto the well-mixed in the deposits for bi-dispersed polystyrene particles. The sedimentation and capillaryflow velocities were calculated and discussed. These new findings reveal that the particle density (gravityeffect) can be used to adjust the sedimentation velocity to control the deposition morphology and particlesize distribution even to suppress the coffee-ring effect.

      • A Comparative Study of Korean and Chinese Festival Management Systems

        Festivals and events are considered as a new wave of alternative tourism which contributes to sustainable development. On a global scale festivals and events with a strong cultural component are substantially increasing in numbers. How to manage the festivals is important to the success of them. This study aims to compare the festival management systems between Korea and China and to find out the differences between them through the empirical. A survey with the questionnaires focusing on the festival organizers is conducted. As a result, significant differences are found out in the management of festival program, budget and publicity between two countries. Compared to Chinese festivals, Korean festivals are more focused on the variety and creativeness of festival program. And they make more efforts to attract various media publicity, to develop festival web site for online publicity as well as to hold overseas publicity to attract foreign visitors than Chinese festivals. On the other side, Korean festival organizers show a more negative attitude to festival budget. Chinese festival government provides more adequate budget for the festivals and Chinese festivals have more financial. Based on the findings, available development strategies are also proposed for promoting Chinese cultural tourism festivals.

      • The NAD(P)H: Quinine Oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) Gene 609 C>T Polymorphism is Associated with Gastric Cancer Risk: Evidence from a Case-control Study and a Meta-analysis

        The association between the NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) gene C609T polymorphism (rs1800566) and gastric cancer has been widely evaluated, but a definitive answer is so far lacking. We first conducted a case-control study to assess this association in a large Han Chinese population, and then performed a meta-analysis to further address this issue. Although our case-control association study indicated no significant difference in the genotype and allele distributions of C609T polymorphism between gastric cancer patients and controls, in the meta analysis involving 4,000 subjects, comparison of alleles 609T and 609C indicated a significantly increased risk (46%) for gastric cancer (95% confidence interval (95%CI) for odds ratio (OR)=1.20-1.79) in individuals with the T allele. The tendency was similar to the homozygote (OR=1.81, 95%CI: 1.16-2.84), dominant models (OR=1.41, 95%CI: 1.12-1.79), as well as recessive model (OR=1.58, 95%CI: 1.06-2.35). Stratified analysis by study design demonstrated stronger associations in population-based than in hospital-based studies. And ethnicity-based analysis demonstrated a significant association in Asians. We conclude that the NQO1 gene C609T polymorphism increases the risk for gastric cancer, especially in Asian populations.

        A review of the immunomodulatory activities of polysaccharides isolated from Panax species

        Panax polysaccharides are biopolymers that are isolated and purified from the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits of Panax L. plants, which have attracted considerable attention because of their immunomodulatory activities. In this paper, the composition and structural characteristics of purified polysaccharides are reviewed. Moreover, the immunomodulatory activities of polysaccharides are described both in vivo and in vitro. In vitro, Panax polysaccharides exert immunomodulatory functions mainly by activating macrophages, dendritic cells, and the complement system. In vivo, Panax polysaccharides can increase the immune organ indices and stimulate lymphocytes. In addition, this paper also discusses the membrane receptors and various signalling pathways of immune cells. Panax polysaccharides have many beneficial therapeutic effects, including enhancing or activating the immune response, and may be helpful in treating cancer, sepsis, osteoporosis, and other conditions. Panax polysaccharides have the potential for use in the development of novel therapeutic agents or adjuvants with beneficial immunomodulatory properties.

        Chemical Composition, Antioxidant and Cytoprotective Activities of Lotus Receptacle

        The nutritional composition (ash, protein, fat, crude fiber, and carbohydrate) and antioxidant activity of lotus receptacles (LRs) were studied. The LRs contained 88.25% carbohydrates, 22.90% crude fiber, 5.79% crude ash, 0.77% crude protein content, and 5.19% crude lipid on a dry weight basis. The ethanolic extract of lotus receptacle (ELR) exerted strong scavenging effects on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical, hydroxyl radical (•OH), superoxide anion (O2-), and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), as well as high reducing power. ELR pretreatment effectively elevated cell viability and decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in H2O2-treated RAW 264.7 cells. Additionally, ELR had high phenolic and flavonoid contents with values of 318.15 mg gallic acid equivalent/g and 239.06 mg rutin equivalent/g, respectively. Moreover, the bioactivity-guided study of ELR resulted in the isolation and identification of quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (QOG), a dietary flavonoid. QOG exhibited strong DPPH free radical scavenging activity, with an IC50 value of 24.26 μM; docking studies revealed that QOC formed one hydrogen bond with LYS263 in the active site, suggesting it is, in part, responsible for the free activity of LR.

      • A Novel All-trans Retinoid Acid Derivative N-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-Retinamide Inhibits Lung Adenocarcinoma A549 Cell Migration through Down-regulating Expression of Myosin Light Chain Kinase

        Aim: To observe the effects of a novel all-trans retinoid acid (ATRA) derivative, N-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-retinamide (ATPR), on lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells and to explore the potential mechanism of ATPR inhibiting of A549 cell migration. Materials and Methods: The cytotoxicity of ATRA and ATPR on A549 cells was assessed using MTT assay. Wound healing assays were used to analyze the influences of ATRA, ATPR, ML-7 (a highly selective inhibitor of myosin light chain kinase (MLCK)), PMA (an activator of MAPKs) and PD98059 (a selective inhibitor of ERK1/2) on the migration of A549 cells. Expression of MLCK and phosphorylation of myosin light chain (MLC) were assessed by Western blotting. Results: ATRA and ATPR inhibited the proliferation of A549 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner, and the effect of ATPR was much more remarkable compared with ATRA. Relative migration rate and migration distance of A549 cells both decreased significantly after treatment with ATPR or ML-7. The effect on cell migration of PD98059 combining ATPR treatment was more notable than that of ATPR alone. Moreover, compared with control groups, the expression levels of MLCK and phosphorylated MLC in A549 cells were both clearly reduced in ATRA and ATPR groups. Conclusions: ATPR could suppress the migration and invasion of A549 cells, and the mechanism might be concerned with down-regulating the expression of MLCK in the ERK-MAPK signaling pathway, pointing to therapeutic prospects in lung cancer.
