Background: In intensive care units, mechanical ventilation is an important therapy to help patients with dysp- nea. However, long-term ventilator dependence would consume huge medical resources and increase the risk of morbidity and mortality. The aim of the study was to examine the efficacy of the acupuncture combined with western medical care on ventilator parameters in ventilator-dependent patients. Methods: In this clinical trial, 80 ventilator-dependent patients aged 20 to 80 years old were randomly assigned to acupuncture group and control group in the respiratory care center (RCC) of Changhua Christian Hospital. Besides regular medical care and therapy, participants in the acupuncture group received acupuncture therapy at the same 17 acu-points for 20 minutes once a day, a total of 12 sessions. The ventilator parameters were recorded to evaluate the respiratory efficiency for all participants. The primary outcome was rapid shallow breathing index (RSBI), and secondary outcomes were respiratory rate (RR), tidal volume (TV) and ventilation per minute (MV). Results: Though there was no significant difference in the parameter between the acupuncture group and the control group, we found the trend of decreasing RSBI in the acupuncture group. In subgroup analyses, the mean of RSBI significantly decreased 16.02 (with the SD in 60.84) in acupuncture group, while it increased 17.84 (with the SD in 39.38) in control group (p = 0.036) after 12 sessions. Conclusion: Acupuncture treatment can improve breathing ability of patients with respirator dependence in respiratory care center.

Objective Metabolic abnormalities, e.g., diabetes, are common among schizophrenia patients. Peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) regulates glucose/lipid metabolisms, and schizophrenia like syndrome may be induced by actions involving retinoid X receptor-α/PPAR-γ heterodimers. We examined a possible role of the PPAR-γ gene in metabolic traits and psychosis profile in schizophrenia patients exposed to antipsychotics. Methods Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the PPAR-γ gene and a serial of metabolic traits were determined in 394 schizophrenia patients, among which 372 were rated with Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). Results SNP-10, -12, -18, -19, -20 and -26 were associated with glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) whereas SNP-18, -19, -20 and -26 were associated with fasting plasma glucose (FPG). While SNP-23 was associated with triglycerides, no associations were identified between the other SNPs and lipids. Further haplotype analysis demonstrated an association between the PPAR-γ gene and psychosis profile. Conclusion Our study suggests a role of the PPAR-γ gene in altered glucose levels and psychosis profile in schizophrenia patients exposed to antipsychotics. Although the Pro12Ala at exon B has been concerned an essential variant in the development of obesity, the lack of association of the variant with metabolic traits in this study should not be treated as impossibility or a proof of error because other factors, e.g., genes regulated by PPAR-γ, may have complicated the development of metabolic abnormalities. Whether the PPAR-γ gene modifies the risk of metabolic abnormalities or psychosis, or causes metabolic abnormalities that lead to psychosis, remains to be examined.

Jen-Chen Fan,Wen-Yao Liu,Che-Hsin Liu,Chien-Lin Huang,Yun-Wei Tan,Jia-Jun Guo 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.8
This study design the sand column tests in the laboratory to evaluate permeability and efficiency of substrates by using permeationgrouting technology. The results show, the coarser the test sand and the lower the substrates viscosity, the better the grouting effect. Ifmore than 5% fines added will affect the grouting results significantly. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient and stepwiseregression method were applied to analysis 36 sets of sand columns testing results. The relationships among the effective size of testsand (D10), the viscosity of substrates and grouting height, grouting time, grouting rate and outflow rate were obtained. The results ofthis study might be helpful for applying the permeation grouting technology to remedy the contaminated groundwater in the field.
A study on convergence and complexity of reproducing kernel collocation method
Hu, Hsin-Yun,Lai, Chiu-Kai,Chen, Jiun-Shyan Techno-Press 2009 Interaction and multiscale mechanics Vol.2 No.3
In this work, we discuss a reproducing kernel collocation method (RKCM) for solving $2^{nd}$ order PDE based on strong formulation, where the reproducing kernel shape functions with compact support are used as approximation functions. The method based on strong form collocation avoids the domain integration, and leads to well-conditioned discrete system of equations. We investigate the convergence and the computational complexity for this proposed method. An important result obtained from the analysis is that the degree of basis in the reproducing kernel approximation has to be greater than one for the method to converge. Some numerical experiments are provided to validate the error analysis. The complexity of RKCM is also analyzed, and the complexity comparison with the weak formulation using reproducing kernel approximation is presented.

Exotoxins produced by Actinobacillus (A.) pleuropneumoniae(Apx) play major roles in the pathogenesis of pleuropneumoniain swine. This study investigated the role of ApxI in hemolysisand cellular damage using a novel apxIA mutant, ApxIA336,which was developed from the parental strain A. pleuropneumoniae serotype 10 that produces only ApxI in vitro. The genotype of ApxIA336 was confirmed by PCR, Southernblotting, and gene sequencing. Exotoxin preparation derivedfrom ApxIA336 was analyzed for its bioactivity towardsporcine erythrocytes and alveolar macrophages. Analysisresults indicated that ApxIA336 contained a kanamycinresistantcassette inserted immediately after 1005 bp of theapxIA gene. Phenotype analysis of ApxIA336 revealed nodifference in the growth rate as compared to the parentalstrain. Meanwhile, ApxI production was abolished in thebacterial culture supernatant, i.e. exotoxin preparation. Theinability of ApxIA336 to produce ApxI corresponded to the lossof hemolytic and cytotoxic bioactivity in exotoxin preparation,as demonstrated by hemolysis, lactate dehydrogenase release, mitochondrial activity, and apoptosis assays. Additionally, thevirulence of ApxIA336 appeared to be attenuated by 15-fold inBALB/c mice. Collectively, ApxI, but not other components inthe exotoxin preparation of A. pleuropneumoniae serotype 10,was responsible for the hemolytic and cytotoxic effects onporcine erythrocytes and alveolar macrophages.
Intelligent LoRa-Based Positioning System
Jiann-Liang Chen,Hsin-Yun Chen,Yi-Wei Ma 한국인터넷정보학회 2022 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.16 No.9
The Location-Based Service (LBS) is one of the most well-known services on the Internet. Positioning is the primary association with LBS services. This study proposes an intelligent LoRa-based positioning system, called AI@LBS, to provide accurate location data. The fingerprint mechanism with the clustering algorithm in unsupervised learning filters out signal noise and improves computing stability and accuracy. In this study, data noise is filtered using the DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) algorithm, increasing the positioning accuracy from 95.37% to 97.38%. The problem of data imbalance is addressed using the SMOTE (Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique) technique, increasing the positioning accuracy from 97.38% to 99.17%. A field test in the NTUST campus (www.ntust.edu.tw) revealed that AI@LBS system can reduce average distance error to 0.48m.
Radial basis collocation method for dynamic analysis of axially moving beams
Wang, Lihua,Chen, Jiun-Shyan,Hu, Hsin-Yun Techno-Press 2009 Interaction and multiscale mechanics Vol.2 No.4
We introduce a radial basis collocation method to solve axially moving beam problems which involve $2^{nd}$ order differentiation in time and $4^{th}$ order differentiation in space. The discrete equation is constructed based on the strong form of the governing equation. The employment of multiquadrics radial basis function allows approximation of higher order derivatives in the strong form. Unlike the other approximation functions used in the meshfree methods, such as the moving least-squares approximation, $4^{th}$ order derivative of multiquadrics radial basis function is straightforward. We also show that the standard weighted boundary collocation approach for imposition of boundary conditions in static problems yields significant errors in the transient problems. This inaccuracy in dynamic problems can be corrected by a statically condensed semi-discrete equation resulting from an exact imposition of boundary conditions. The effectiveness of this approach is examined in the numerical examples.

Pineapples are tropical fruit that are rich in vitamins, enzymes and fibers with many health benefits not only in pulps but also peels. However, the peels of pineapples are normally removed and dropped. The pulps and peels of four pineapple cultivars, Milk, Honey Fragrance, Smooth Cayenne and Golden Diamond pineapples, were juiced, filtered and analyzed, and the Golden Diamond pineapple was found to have highest antioxidant capacity. The pulp and peel juices of Golden Diamond pineapple were inoculated with Enterococcus faecium LYC91 and various concentration calcium carbonate to ferment at 37°C for 24 hours follow by bacterial and antioxidant capacity analysis. The results indicated that the fermented pineapple peel juice with calcium carbonate had highest bacterial number, total polyphenol content, DPPH radical scavenging ability, Fe2 + chelating ability and reducing power activity than pulp juice and unfermented pineapple juice. The viable bacterial number of fermented pineapple pulp and peel juices with calcium carbonate remain 8.0 log CFU/mL after stored at 4°C for 1 month. The freeze-dried powder of the fermented pineapple pulp and peel juices with calcium carbonate retained the viable cell number of 9.0 log CFU/g after stored at 4°C for three months. These results showed that the fermented pineapple pulp and peel juices with calcium carbonate were novel pineapple lactic acid fermented drinks with growth potential.
