Generally, shear wall system appears to resist the lateral loads, because high-rise buildings require satisfaction of building drift limit due to lateral loads. However shear wall system used mostly concrete, in this paper steel plate shear wall use to resist the lateral loads instead of reinforced concrete wall system. But, there is lack of research and understanding of steel plate shear wall system so that no real building of such system exists in Korea. This paper demonstrates stability and serviceability of steel plate shear wall by preliminary experimental test.

<P>Canarium lyi C.D. Dai & Yakovlev (CL) is a member of the Anacardiaceae family: To the best of our knowledge, no studies on its anti-inflammatory effects have yet been reported. In the present study, we investigated the protective effects of CL on inflammation in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells and LPS-induced acute lung injury (ALI) mice. CL attenuated the production of LPS-stimulated inflammatory mediators such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin (IL)-1 beta, and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Furthermore, CL suppressed phosphorylation of the inhibitor kappa B-alpha (I kappa B-alpha), p38, c-Jun terminal kinase (JNK) and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), as well as the translocation of the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B) p65 subunit into the nucleus. For the in vivo efficacy, the effect of CL on a mouse model of LPS-induced acute lung injury was assessed. CL treatment of the mice significantly inhibited the inflammatory cell recruitment and pro-inflammatory cytokine production in bronchoalveolar lavage fluids (BALF). CL-treated mice also showed a marked inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and phosphorylation of I kappa B and p65. In addition, CL attenuated lung histopathological changes in LPS-induced ALT mice. In conclusion, our results suggest that CL is a potential therapeutic candidate for the treatment of inflammatory diseases, including pneumonia.</P>

<P>Clausena anisata (Willd.) Hook.f. ex Benth. (CA), which is widely used in traditional medicine, reportedly exerts antitumor, anti-inflammatory and other important therapeutic effects. The aim of the present study was to investigate the potential therapeutic effects of CA in a mouse model of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI) and in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Male C57BL/6 mice were administered treatments for 3 days by oral gavage. On day 3, the mice were instilled intranasally with LPS or PBS followed 3 h later by oral CA (30 mg/kg) or vehicle administration. In vitro, CA decreased nitric oxide (NO) production and pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-6 and prostaglandin E2 (PGE(2)), in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. CA also reduced the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators, such as cyclooxygenase-2. In vivo, CA administration significantly reduced inflammatory cell numbers in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and suppressed pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, including tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), IL-6, and IL-1 beta, as well as reactive oxygen species production in the BALF. CA also effectively reduced airway inflammation in mouse lung tissue of an LPS-induced ALI mouse model, in addition to decreasing inhibitor kappa B (I kappa B) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B) p65 phosphorylation. Taken together, the findings demonstrated that CA inhibited inflammatory responses in a mouse model of LPS-induced ALI and in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Thus, CA is a potential candidate for development as an adjunctive treatment for inflammatory disorders, such as ALI.</P>

Lipoma is a benign fatty tumor that can arise in any location of the body where fat is present. It is found most commonly in the upper half of the body, particularly the head and neck, shoulders, and back. A mass in the antero-inferior part of the neck may be initially thought to be thyroid masses and then other cervical masses should be considered. Ultrasongraphic examination of benign lipoma demonstrates solid and echogenic mass and may differentiate nonthyroid from thyroid masses. Although the location of tumors, its consistency, and its motion with deglutition, seperation from the thyroid on sonographic examination, all pointed to nonthyroidal origin, did not rule out a possible mass that isolated from the lobes of the thyroid. Fine needle aspiration and biopsy can provide clear answer. We herein report a case of anterior cervical mass in a 48-yr-old male patient presenting a non-tender, slightly hard and nodular mass slowly growing for several years and moved with swallowing, and diagnosed his case as benign lipoma using thyroid scan and ultrasonography. When we encounter patients with anterior neck mass, we should consider benign lipoma mimicking diffuse goiter(J Kor Soc Endocrinol 10: 418-423, 1995).

최적해 탑색 도구로 널리 알려진 유전 알고리즘을 이용하여 신경망의 학습을 위한 가중치를 탐색하는 방법은 신경망의 학습 방법의 하나로 사용되고 있다. 신경망의 가중치는 일정 시간의 유전자 연산을 수행하게 되면 최적화된 가중치의 값과 유사하게 되는 특징을 지닌다. 이는 유전자 연산 방법에 의해 가중치가 수렴되고 있음을 의미하며, 그 때의 가중치는 일정한 패턴을 지니는 특징을 발견할 수 있다. 이에, 본 논문에서는 탐색된 가중치의 패턴을 보존하기 위한 방법으로 유전자의 일정 부분을 고정한 후 유전자 연산을 수행하는 개선된 학습 방법을 제안하고자 한다. 이를 이용할 경우에 유전자 탐색의 문제점으로 제시되고 있는 탐색 시간을 효율적으로 감소시킬 수 있는 장점이 있다.
