The physicochemical factors such as organic acid composition, pH, sugar content, acidity and color according to extraction time of Ganodema licidum liquor changed as followings; 1. The major general components of Ganodema licidum were analyzed to be crude fiber(47.5%), carbohydrate (29,4%), crude protein (14.8%), crude fat (6.5%) and crude ash (1.8%) in dry basis. 2. pH and sugar content in Ganodema licidum liquor slightly decreased, whereas acidity increased with extraction time. 3. The luminosity of color (L) showed no remarkable change. 4. The tone of color (a) decreased, whereas the chroma (b) increased as time goes by. 5. The concentration of total organic acid in Ganodema licidum liquor was 2.453%, and nine kinds of organic acids such as oxalic, citric, tartaric, succinic, lactic, formic, acetic, propionic and isobutyric acid were detected. Among them, the concentration of lactic acid was highest acetic and isobutyric acid were medium level, and that of citric, formic, succinc and tartaric acid was very low.

Antibacterial activity of CLA-K salt was surveyed in this paper. CLA-K(10%) exhibited antibacerial activity at the concentration more than 60 ㎕. The antibacterial activity of CLA-K in liquid culture was relatively proportional to its concentration. The resistance of bacteria against CLA-K increased as time goes by. Streptococcus mutans, Bacillus cereus KCCM-l1204, Lactobacillus plantalium and Escherichia coli ATCC-11835 were relatively sensitive to CLA-K. Staphylococcus aureus KCTC-l927 and Klebsiella pneumoniae KCTC-2208 sensitively reacted to the concentration of CLA-K.

The author examined microbiological water quality in Chinju National University. Water temperature was lowest at site 1 as 9.45℃, and highest at site 7 as 26.11℃ on average. pH was neutral being in the range of pH 6.28∼7.75. There was a little relationship between sampling sites and sampling time. General bacterial number exceeded the standard of water quality in every sites. And not a few bacteria were detected in the purified water. Coliform bacteria were detected at every sites and the number increased after rainfall. These results suggest that the water quality should be appropriately managed, although the present microbiological water qualigy is not so serious a problem.

The authors surveyed the present situation of Agaricus sp cultivation and its disease occurence in Western Kyong-Nam area. 192 farmers, which is 66% of the mushroom-cultivating farmers, were growing Agaricus sp. Especially there were 124 farms in Western Kyong-Nam around Chinju-City. The greater part of mushroom-farmers cultivated Agaricus sp. on tables using cotton as major medium. And they purchased the eldest mycelium from other districts. About 60% of the farmers were suffering some losses due to the development of disease. The major disease seemed to be brown blotch. When a mushroom-disease has developed, most farmer coped with it by removing the cotton media, and sometimes by treating with chemicals. Mushrooms seemed to be a major source of farmers' income, and some govenmental and scientific supports are needed for the development of mushroom cultivation.

장류발효 식품으로부터 protease 및 amylase 활성이 높은 균주를 중심으로 348 균주를 1차 분리하고, 그 분리균 중 2% skim milk가 함유된 LB평판배지(SM배지)화 2%corn starch가 함유된 LB평판배지(CM배지)에서 halo zone이 크고, 두 효소의 활성이 동시에 높은 SW-251균주를 최종 선별하였다. SW-251균주의 생육 온도 범위는 10∼60℃ 이었으며, 최적 생육온도는 35∼40℃ 이었다. 그리고 최적생육 pH는 6.5 부근이었으나 pH6.0 이하나 pH8.0 이상에서는 생육이 저하하였다. SW-251균주는 호기성의 간균 (0.8∼1.3x1.8∼2.5㎛)으로 운동성이 있으며, 그람양성 반응을 나타냈다. 10% 이하의 NaCl에 내성을 갖고있으며, starch 및 casein을 빠르게 분해하는 세균으로 Bacillus속의 특성을 갖고 있었다. Among 348 strains isolated from fermented soy foods, SW-251 strain has a potent protease and amylase activities on SM medium(LB agar plate supplemented with 2% skim milk), and CM medium(LB agar plate supplemented with 2% corm starch0, respectively. The optimal temperature and growth temperature range for cell growth were 35∼40℃ and 10∼60℃, respectively. The optimal pH was 6.5 and pH range of its growth was 6.0 and 8.0. The isolate was an aerobic bacterium (rod type, 0.8∼1.3 x 1.8∼2.5㎛), then there was its mobility, Gram staining and hydrolysis of starch and casein were positive reaction. Salt tolerance was below 10% NaCl. The strain was identified as a Bacillus sp. SW-251 with respect to morphological, cultural and physiological characteristics.

A bacterium producing five fibrinolytic isozymes was isolated from black bean chung kuk. The bacterium was identified as Bacillus subtilis BB-1 by 16s rDNA sequence homology search. A gene out of five fibrinolytic genes in the Bacillus subtilis BB-1 was cloned by shot-gun method. A Cla ⅠDNA fragment of B. subtilis BB-1 chromosome was cloned in to pBluescript ⅡSK(-) and showed the fibrinolytic activity to bacterial cells. The Cla ⅠDNA fragment was sequenced and the sequences did not show homology with gene for protease or fibrinolytic enzyme genes in other organisms. The Cla ⅠDNA fragment was reduced to 2,142 bp by activity-guided PCR cloning method. The optimum pH and temperature of the enzyme were 5.0 and 35℃, respectively. Substrate specificity of the fibrinolytic enzyme was detected in skim milk, casein, gelatin and blood agar plates. The activity of the enzyme was not detected with these substrates. Taken together, this enzyme is a new fibrinolytic enzyme and may be used to prevent thrombosis and arteriosclerosis.

Recent developments in high-technology experimental equipment and semiconductor micro fabrication technology have made it possible to study various characteristic quantum phenomena such as quantized conductance and coulomb-blockade effects at the nano-scale level. One recent study attempted to fabricate a normal-super-normal double tunneling junction in a split-gate wire. In this study, we describe the results of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation of a single 100 nm wide and 200 nm high Ni dot, which had been fabricated using scanning tunneling microscopy (SEM), placed on the top of the bridge of a Si-doped GaAs epitaxial layer grown by molecular beam epitaxy using a Riber 32 apparatus. The results from the successful use of TEM to observe the results of a SEM fabrication procedure support the contention that the fabricated Ni dot became a poly-crystal that was amorphous between GaAs crystal and a surface dot fabricated by applying voltage pulse to a STM tip, covered by an oxygenated film approximately 20 nm thick.
Gas Transfer and Hemolysis in an Intravascular Lung Assist Device Using a PZT Actuator

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of multiple mechanical forces in gas exchange and hemolysis in an intravascular lung assist device (IVLAD). Specific focus was given to the effect of membrane vibration We designed the oscillatory type artificial lung assist device attached with a polyvinylidene fluoride sensor and a lead zirconate titanate (PZT) actuator (vibrator). Maximum oxygen transfer occurred at a frequency of 7 ㎐ for bovine blood and 35 ㎐ for distilled water. The normalized index of hemolysis oxygenator values for the circuit was 0.0014 g/㎖ for excitation of the PZT actuator with a sinusoidal 10-V wave and 0.0018 g/㎖ for a 50-V wave. The experiment results indicate effective performance in enhancing the gas transfer of the IVLAD. This novel hollow membrane jilter IVLAD design demonstrates an acceptable level of gas exchange performance with an acceptable level of blood compatibility, and so it has potential as an implantable lung assist device for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome.
