Purpose Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is an attractive source for liquid biopsy to understand molecular phenotypes of a tumor non-invasively, which is also expected to be both a diagnostic and prognostic marker. PIK3CA and KRAS are among the most frequently mutated genes in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). In addition, their hotspot mutations have already been identified and are ready for a highly sensitive analysis. Our aim is to clarify the significance of PIK3CA and KRAS mutations in the plasma of EOC patients as tumor-informed ctDNA. Materials and Methods We screened 306 patients with ovarian tumors for somatic PIK3CA or KRAS mutations. A total of 85 EOC patients had somatic PIK3CA and/or KRAS mutations, and the correspon-ding mutations were subsequently analyzed using a droplet digital polymerase chain reaction in their plasma. Results The detection rates for ctDNA were 27% in EOC patients. Advanced stage and positive peritoneal cytology were associated with higher frequency of ctDNA detection. Preoperative ctDNA detection was found to be an indicator of outcomes, and multivariate analysis revealed that ctDNA remained an independent risk factor for recurrence (p=0.010). Moreover, we assessed the mutation frequency in matched plasma before surgery and at recurrence from 17 patients, and found six patients had higher mutation rates in cell-free DNA at recurrence compared to that at primary diagnosis. Conclusion The presence of ctDNA at diagnosis was an indicator for recurrence, which suggests potential tumor spread even when tumors were localized at the time of diagnosis.
Hydrophobic hollow fiber membrane-based solution mass exchanger

This paper presents a hollow fiber membrane-based solution mass exchanger (HFM-SME) in vapor absorption refrigeration system. Due to a hydrophobic surface characteristic where water vapor passes through, but the liquid lithium bromide solution does not seep into it, the HFM-SHE is used for both heat and mass recovery to enhance the system efficiency whereas the conventional solution heat exchanger is only used for the recovery of heat. Mass recovery process is emphasized by understanding the simultaneous heat and mass transfer between two streams of the lithium bromide solutions. The characteristics of the mass recovery process are clarified regarding the flow direction of the solutions.

In recent years, EVs have attracted considerable attention as eco-friendly vehicles. Owing to a significant decrease in fuel economy during the winter season, heat pump technology is currently being applied for EVs in lieu of the standard electric heater option. However, heat pumps need to defrost periodically due to the accumulation of frost on the heat exchanger’s outer surface, which compromises the security of the heat source as well as system efficiency. The proposed PCM module has a double-tube structure chargeable either from the heat pump through waste heat, or from the battery through the liquid line, during normal operation. As opposed to the electric heater, which reduces fuel economy during heat pump defrosting, the PCM module is proposed for cabin heating by air. The effectiveness of the unique inner fins located in the PCM is proven by CFD analysis, and the solidification thermal behavior is measured for a test section using C20H42 (Icosane). A one-dimensional thermal model with an accuracy of ± 1 °C is proposed to estimate the air outlet temperature and heat capacity over time during heat discharging, as a basis for future investigation of fuel economy improvement using the PCM module at vehicle level.

An experimental study of condensation heat transfer was performed for pure refrigerants HFC32, HFCI25, and HFC134a, and a ternary refrigerant mixture of HFC32/125/134a (23/25/52wt%). The heat transfer coefficients were measured inside a horizontal smooth tube 5.8 mm I.D. and 8.0 m long. The refrigerant temperature at inlet was 40 $^{\circ}C$, and the mass flux was varied from 150 to 400 $kg/m^2s$. As for the pure refrigerants, the heat transfer coefficient of HFC32/125/l34a decreased as the quality decreased. In addition, the heat transfer coefficient of HFC32/l25/134a was about 20 % lower than HFC 134a at a low mass flux but showed no reduction at a high mass flux. The heat transfer coefficient of ternary refrigerant mixtures was 30% lower on the average than that of the pure refrigerant.

<P>We report the synthesis and characterization of Nd doped ZnO thin films grown on Si (1 0 0) substrates by the spray pyrolysis method. The surface morphology of these thin films was investigated by scanning electron microscopy and shows the presence of randomly distributed structures of nanorods. Grazing angle x-ray diffraction studies confirm that the doped Nd ions occupied Zn sites and these samples exhibited a wurtzite hexagonal-like crystal structure similar to that of the parent compound, ZnO. The micro-photoluminescence measurement shows a decrease in the near band edge position with Nd doping in the ZnO matrix due to the impurity levels. The near-edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) measurements at the O K edge clearly exhibit a pre-edge spectral feature which evolves with Nd doping, suggesting incorporation of more charge carriers in the ZnO system and the presence of strong hybridization between O 2p–Nd 5d orbitals. The Nd M5 edge NEXAFS spectra reveal that the Nd ions are in the trivalent state.</P>
