과학의 우발성과 산업 기술: 대안적 과학과 관련된 메타적 사고로부터 다이내미즘의 구체적인 해명까지

이 논문에서 나는 과학의 우발성 문제가 산업 기술과 사회적 필요라는 요소를 도입함으로써 구체화되어야 한다고 주장한다. 첫째, 우발성 문제와 “똑같이 성공적이지만 동등하지 않은 과학”과 관련된 어려움을 정식화하기 위해 선행 연구를 검토한다. 보다 유익하게 접근하기 위해, 나는 과학이 갖는 다양한 요소들의 상호연관성에 주목하여 과학에 대한 상향식(혹은 자원-지향적인) 관점에서 보면 과학적 발견의 역사적 우발성을 추정할 수 있음을 보인다. 다음으로 나는 우발성이 “사물의 가변성”, 다시 말해 탐지기가 실험자의 의도를 넘어 대상을 포착할 수 있어야 한다는 잠재성에 의해 약화된다고 지적한다. 그렇지만, 발견의 순서와 관련된 비가환성(noncommutativity)에 대해서는 우발성을 요구할 여지가 있다. 따라서 나는 과학에서의 우발성 문제가 과학기술의 다이내미즘에 대한 경험적 탐구를 진작하는 지침 질문으로 간주되어야 한다고 제안한다. In this paper, I argue that the problem of the contingency of science should be made concrete by introducing elements of industrial technologies and social needs. First, previous research is reviewed in its attempt to formulate the contingency question, and difficulties with being concerned in “equally successful but nonequivalent science” are shown. As a more fruitful approach, I attend to interrelationships of various elements on science and demonstrate that from a bottom-up (or resource-oriented) view of science the historical contingency of scientific discovery can be suspected. Then I point out that the contingency is weakened by the “versatility of things”, that is, the potential that detectors have to capture objects beyond experimenters` intention. Nevertheless, there is some room to insist upon contingency regarding noncommutativity which concerns the order of discovery. Thus, I propose that the question of contingency of science should be taken as a guiding question to stimulate empirical inquiries into the dynamism of our science and technology.

A new compacting method for powder materials is presented. High-speed Centrifugal Compaction Process (HCP) utilizes centrifugal force of about 10,000 g for the compaction. WCP is suitable for net shape compaction of fine sub-micron and nano-powders. HCP possesses a unique compacting mechanism that is different from other colloidal processes including Pressure Casting (PC), and has a number of useful characteristics. HCP has a higher compacting speed than PC, wide applicability for net shape formation, as well as a defect removing function. Because of homogeneous and flawless green microstructure, HCP alumina shows superior sinterability and higher strength and hardness than most of other aluminas.

High-Speed Centrifugal Compaction Process (HCP) is a wet compacting method, in which powders are compacted under a huge centrifugal force. The HCP was well applied to small alumina specimens, but the compact easily cracked when we applied the HCP to other materials. We clarified how the cracks introduced and found that the formation of such a flow pattern was related to the Colioli's force in the centrifugal field.
Compaction of Ultra-fine WC Powder by High-Speed Centrifugal Compaction Process

High-Speed Centrifugal Compaction Process is one of slip-using compacting method originally developed for processing of oxide ceramics. In this study, we apply the HCP to ultra-fine (0.1 micron) WC powder. Organic liquid of heptane was chosen as dispersing media to avoid possible oxidation of WC. The mixing apparatus was a key to obtain dense compacts. Only the slips mixed by high energy planetary ball mill were packed up to 55% by the HCP, and sintered to almost full density at 1673 K without any sintering aids. This sintered compact marked Vickers hardness of Hv 2750 at maximum.

To realize the harmonious cooperation with the operator, the man-machine cooperative system must be designed so as to accommodate with the characteristics of the operator’s skill. One of the important considerations in the skill analysis is to investigate the switching mechanism underlying the skill dynamics. On the other hand, the combination of the feedforward and feedback schemes has been proved to work successfully in the modeling of human skill. In this paper, a new stochastic switched skill model for the sliding task, wherein a minimum jerk motion and feedback schemes are embedded in the different discrete states, is proposed. Then, the parameter estimation algorithm for the proposed switched skill model is derived. Finally, some advantages and applications of the proposed model are discussed.

Study Design: Multicenter prospective study with a crossover design. Purpose: The objective of this study is to compare the efficacy of limaprost alfadex (LP) and elcatonin (EL) for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) patients with concurrent osteoporosis. Overview of Literature: It has been increasingly important to improve quality of life by establishing appropriate conservative treatments for LSS patients with concurrent osteoporosis who will presumably continue to increase due to the percentage of the aging elevations, however there is no prospective study. Methods: A total of 19 patients with LSS and concurrent osteoporosis were enrolled in this study. The patients were divided into two groups and compared using a crossover design. The Japanese Orthopaedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire (JOABPEQ) and short-form (SF)-8 health survey scale were used for clinical evaluations. Results: There was a significant improvement of buttock-leg pain and numbness in the EL group. A significant improvement of impaired walking function was noted for the LP group according to the JOABPEQ while the rest of the items in the JOABPEQ showed no significant differences. The SF-8 health survey revealed that somatic pains and physical summary scores in the EL group and physical functioning and physical summary scores in the LP group tended to improve but not to any statistically significant extents. Conclusions: Concomitant uses of EL may be useful in patients who do not respond satisfactorily to the treatments of LP for 6–8 weeks.

We have performed Ce M4,5-edge X-ray absorption (XAS) and Ce 3d-4f resonance photoemission (RPES) spectroscopies on quasicrystal approximant Au59.2Ga25.7Ce15.1. The 3d94f1 final state originating from the itinerant 4f electronic states is negligible in the Ce M4,5-edge XAS. The Ce 3d-4f RPES spectrum shows the relatively large the spectral weight of the 4f0 final state to that of the 4f1 final state, reflecting the weak hybridization between the localized 4f orbitals and the conduction bands. The localized 4f electronic states in Au59.2Ga25.7Ce15.1 are revealed by both spectroscopies.
