Fitting CAD data to scanned data with large deformation
Shintaro Suzuki,Yutaka Ohtake,Hiromasa Suzuki 한국CDE학회 2020 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.7 No.2
Recently, largely deformed simulation models, such as car crash simulations, have been in high demand. To evaluate such models, it is necessary to use actual deformation results to compare and validate them. When measuring actual deformed objects, an X-ray CT is useful because it is non-destructive. However, matching undeformed CAD data and scanned deformation data is difficult. We propose a system for users to set control points or control lines on feature points and predict deformation using affine transformation with the moving least squares method. In the proposed method, undesirable distortions are reduced by evaluating scaling using singular value index and introducing offset control points. The deformed CAD data are obtained by matching predicted CAD data and a polygon mesh generated by deformed CT data. In addition, the surface elements of the generated deformed CAD data are evaluated for CAE.

Background/Aims: Mucosal adaptation of the ileum toward colonic epithelium has been reported in pouchitis in ulcerative colitis (UC); however, the clinical characteristics, endoscopic findings, and outcomes in patients with pouchitis with ileal mucosal adaptation are poorly understood. Methods: This was a single-center retrospective study comprising UC patients treated by proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis who had undergone pouchoscopy at the University of Tsukuba Hospital between 2005 and 2022. Endoscopic phenotypes were evaluated according to the Chicago classification. High-iron diamine staining (HID) was performed to identify sulfomucin (colon-type mucin)-producing goblet cells (GCs) in pouch biopsies. We compared clinical data between patients with (high HID group) and without > 10% sulfomucin-producing GCs in at least one biopsy (low HID group). Results: We reviewed 390 endoscopic examination reports from 50 patients. Focal inflammation was the most common phenotype (78%). Five patients (10%) required diverting ileostomy. Diffuse inflammation and fistula were significant risk factors for diverting ileostomy. The median proportion of sulfomucin-producing GCs on histological analysis of 82 pouch biopsies from 23 patients was 9.9% (range, 0%–93%). The duration of disease was significantly greater in the high HID group compared to the low HID group. The median percentage of sulfomucin-producing GCs was significantly higher in patients with diffuse inflammation or fistula compared to other endoscopic phenotypes (14% vs. 6.0%, P= 0.011).Conclusions: Greater proportions of sulfomucin-producing GCs were observed in endoscopic phenotypes associated with poor outcomes in UC, indicating patients with pouchitis showing colonic metaplasia of GCs may benefit from early interventions.

Right-sided infective endocarditis (RSIE) is rare, and the diagnosis is challenging due to fewer cardiac symptoms and signs. It is well recognized that intravenous drug users (IDU) are at significantly increased risk for RSIE. Also, RSIE is associated with a broad array of extra-cardiac complications such as metastatic infection and septic embolism. However, the prevalence is significantly higher in Western populations and has rarely been reported in Japan. We report a case of IDU-induced RSIE that was successfully treated with antibiotic therapy. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography was useful to evaluate the activity of extra-cardiac complications.

We have performed Ce M4,5-edge X-ray absorption (XAS) and Ce 3d-4f resonance photoemission (RPES) spectroscopies on quasicrystal approximant Au59.2Ga25.7Ce15.1. The 3d94f1 final state originating from the itinerant 4f electronic states is negligible in the Ce M4,5-edge XAS. The Ce 3d-4f RPES spectrum shows the relatively large the spectral weight of the 4f0 final state to that of the 4f1 final state, reflecting the weak hybridization between the localized 4f orbitals and the conduction bands. The localized 4f electronic states in Au59.2Ga25.7Ce15.1 are revealed by both spectroscopies.
