The emergences of multi-drug resistant bacteria such as Acinetobacter baumanni have emphasized the necessity of new antibiotics. Peptidyl deformylase (PDF) catalyzes the removal of the formyl group from the N-terminal formylated methionine residue present in all nascent polypeptides in bacteria. In this study, the PDF gene from Acinetobacter baumannii K0420859 was cloned and its protein was overexpressed in E. coli, purified, and crystallized. The purified protein was crystallized using the hanging-drop vapour-diffusion method and the crystal diffracted to 2.4 Å resolution. The crystal belonged to the trigonal space group P3 2 with unit cell parameters of a = b= 39.4 Å and c = 187.9 Å. Two protomers were presented in the asymmetric unit with a corresponding V M of 2.10 Å 3 Da -1 and a solvent content of 41.5%.

Objective: Hypoactivity in the reward system among patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a well-known phenomenon. Whether the activity in the reward pathway is related to harm avoidance, such as in sensitivity to punishment, is unclear. Evidence regarding the potential difference between ADHD patients and controls in terms of this association is scarce. Methods: Event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging was conducted on subjects performing the Iowa gambling test. Fourteen adults with ADHD and 14 controls were enrolled in the study. Results: Harm avoidance was found to be positively correlated with the activities of the bilateral orbitofrontal cortex and right insula in individuals with ADHD. A group difference was also confirmed. Conclusion: Understanding the roles of harm avoidance and brain activation during risk tasks is important.

Waterlogging is one of the major environmental challenges that can adversely impact squash growth, development, and productivity. Nevertheless, studies on the physiological changes of squash to waterlogging stress are scarce. Previously, we reported that the Cucurbita moschata (Cmo) Early Price (Ep) cultivar showed higher chlorophyll content (CC) and spectral refl ectance compared to the Cucurbita maxima (Cma) OK-101 (Ok) cultivar after waterlogging. In the present work, we further examined more physiological parameters in eight cultivars of Cmo and Cma, and studied whether these non-destruc tive indices could effi ciently identify various waterlogging-tolerant genotypes and were consistent with visual evaluations. Moreover, we investigated the eff ects of waterlogging on the antioxidant system of cucurbit species, and evaluated dynamic changes occurring in these plants during varying waterlog periods by determining physiological characteristics. The activ ity of ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) showed a signifi cant increase in Ep plant leaves and roots after 72 h and 6 h of waterlogging, respectively, compared to Ok plants. In addition, Ep exhibited a higher tolerance to waterlogging than Ok in terms of enhanced root length, values in CC, spectral refl ectance, and APX and SOD activity, plus decreased levels of electrolyte leakage, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging, and hydrogen peroxide levels. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the physiological variations in response to waterlogging stress and can potentially be used to breed cucurbit species with waterlogging tolerance for a wetter future climate.
A Review of Electrically Tunable Focusing Liquid Crystal Lenses
Hung-Chun Lin,Ming-Syuan Chen,Yi-Hsin Lin 한국전기전자재료학회 2011 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.12 No.6
Electrically tunable focusing liquid crystal (LC) lenses are reviewed in this paper. The distribution of the orientations of LC directors which is controlled by electric fields results in a distribution of refractive indices of LC directors. The incident light can be modulated by the electrically tunable lens-like phase difference of the LC lens. We introduce the basic operating principles of LC lenses and discuss the structures of LC lenses. The major challenges of LC lenses are also discussed. We believe this paper provides a guideline for basic understanding of LC lenses.

The Last Hunting Tribe in China: The Ewenki Reindeer Herders of Aoluguya
Hang Lin 부산대학교 한국민족문화연구소 2017 Localities Vol.7 No.-
Genhe, one of China’s most northerly county-level administrative districts in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is the site of China’s lowest recorded temperature ever of -58 ℃. Located deep in China’s largest continuous area of primitive forest in the Greater Khingan Range, Genhe has 91 percent of its land covered with birch. Within these taiga mountains live the Manchu-Tungusic Ewenki people of Aoluguya and their reindeer; the Ewenki are known as the “last hunting tribe of China” (Wu, 2003). A branch of the Ewenki that originated in the region around the Lake Baikal, the Aoluguya Ewenki tribe moved to live in the forests in the Greater Khingan Range 300 years ago. Aoluguya, meaning “flourishing aspen” in the Ewenki language, refers to the river where they reside. Although “Ewenki” means “the people who live deep in the mountains” in their language, most Ewenki in China have settled down in agrarian and pastoral areas. The Aoluguya Ewenki tribe, however, began to practice reindeer-breeding as early as the 17th century. While conducting fieldwork among the Ewenki clans in the early 1930s, the anthropologist Ethel J. Lindgren (1938: 609) noted that the area of their nomadic pasture was about 7000 km², covering the large territory along the Armur and Argun Rivers on the current Sino-Russian border. For centuries, the tribe’s life in the virgin forests remained intact: they lived by reindeer herding. Like other reindeer herders of Eurasia, the Ewenki kept small herds of domesticated reindeer, and used them for milking, riding, and carrying loads. In summer, the Ewenki sought fresh pastures for their herds; in winter, they pitched their tents wherever game animals were abundant. The taiga, as their provider of reindeer forage and good game, allowed the Ewenki to maintain a mobile lifestyle dictated by their seasonal hunting and herding activities, and exerted an enormous symbolic as well as instrumental value (Fondahl 1998: 3). As one of the few tribes that still inhabit the forest, the Aoluguya Ewenki are the only reindeer herders left in China
