Identification of Genes Modulated by High Extracellular Calcium in Coculture of Mouse Osteoblasts and Bone Marrow Cells by Oligo Chip Assay

Calcium concentration in the bone resorption lacunae is high and is in the mM concentration range. Both osteoblast and osteoclast have calcium sensing receptor in the cell surface, suggesting the regulatory role of high extracellular calcium in bone merabolism. In vitro, high extracellular calcium stimulated osteoclastogenesis in coculture of mouse osteoblasts and bone marrow cells. Therefore we examined the genes that were commonly regulated by both high extracellular calcium and 1,25(OH)_(2)vitaminD_(3)(VD3) by using mouse oligo 11 K gene chip. In the presence of 10 mM[Ca^(2+)]e or 10 nM VD3, mouse calvarial osteoblasts and bone marrow cells were co-cultured for 4 days when tartrate resistant acid phosphatase-positive multinucleated cells start to appear. Of 11,000 genes examined, the genes commonly regulated both by high extracellular calcium and by VD3 were as follows; 1) the expressions of genes which were osteoclast differentiation markers or were associated with osteoclastogenesis were up-regulated both by high extracellular calcium and by VD3; trap, mmp9, car2, ctsk, ckb, atp6b2, tm7sf4, rab7, 2) several chemokine and chemokine receptor genes such as sdf1, scya2, scyb5, scya6, scya8, scya9, and ccr1 were up-regulated both by high ectracellular calcium and by VD3, 3) the genes such as mmp1b, mmp3 and c3 which possibly stimulate bone resorption by osteoclast, were commonly up-regulated, 4) the gene such as c1q and msr2 which were related with macrophage function, were commonly down-regulated, 5) the genes which possibly stimulate osteoblast differentiation and/or mineralization of extracellular matrix, were commonly down-regulated;slc8a1, admr, plod2, lox, fosb, 6) the genes which possibly suppress osteoblast differentiation and/or mineralization of extracellular matrix, were commonly up-regulated;s100a4, npr3, mme, 7) the genes such as calponin 1 and tgfbi which possibly suppress osteoblast differentiation and/or mineralization of extracellular matrix, were up-regulated by high extracelluar calcium but were down-regulated by VD3. These results suggest that in coculture condition, both high extracellular calcium and VD3 commonly induce osteoclastogenesis but suppress osteoblast differentiation/mineralization by regulating the expression of related genes.

응급실에 내원한 약물중독환자의 지역별 비교분석

We reviewed retrospectively 230 patients who came to emergency room of Kang Nam St. Mary's Hospital and Uijongbu St. Mary's Hospital between 1. January and 31. December 1994. We classified them according to their age, sex, a sort of drug, the cause of poisoning, prehospital care, time-lapse to arrive at hospital after poisoning, psychiatric problem the status of patients. *We conclude as follows; 1. The male to female ratio was totally 1 : 1.98, 1 : 1.24 in a urban area, 1 : 2.43 in a rural area. 2. On age of the patients in this study, the peake incidence was between 20 and 39(55.2%). 3. On seasonal prevalence, the poisoning was most common in summer and spring, in urban area(35.7%) and rural area(37.0%) respectively. 4. The common drug were as follow; Doxylamine, Organophosphate, Acetaminophen in urban area, Paraquat, Organophospate, Doxylamine in rural area 5. The percentage of suicidal attempt were 81.8% and 87.7% in urban area and rural area respectively. 6. The poisoning patients had psychatric problem in 19.4% and 24.6%, in urban area and rural area respectively. 7. Before arrival to emergency room, 27.7% of patient was done prehospital care in rural area. 8. On arrival to emergency room, 95.1% and 73.8% of patients show stable vital sign in urban area and rural area respectively.

누에의 人工飼料 開發에 관한 硏究

This experiment was conducted to improve the quality of artificial diet for the silkworm., Bombyx mori. 1. All of the Corn, Barley, Rice were good for response, Corn was most recommendable starch source for artificial diet. 2. The precentage of under grown larvae could be reduced by the treatment of hexane when the soybean powder was used for starch source, which was especially effective on the diet for the 1st instar. 3. Feeding responses and growth at 4th instar larvae were varied by the individual moth, however the Japanese strains were superior to Chinese strains in general case. 4. All of the hybrid silkworm showed the better feeding response and growth than their original strains. 5. Both cocoon productivity and egg productivity of the original strains reared on the artificial diet were increased by the subsequent rearing through generation.

This is a study on the influences of Taoism on O'Neill's plays. O'neill's mysticism is connected with his idea of the "Force behind life." His mystical nature was nurtured by his selective reading of and developing understanding of Taoism. Therefore Taoism had a great effect on his life and works. In his texts of Taoism, O'Neill not only found confirmation of his own mystical intuition that a dynamic universal force called Tao by Lao Tzu united man and universe but also discovered an encouraging variant of his own dualistic oppositions as ones of complementary polarity, in which the polar principles called yin and yang alternate and interpenetrate in the dynamic rhythm of the Tao. These Taoistic influences permeate almost every aspect of O'Neill's plays: theme, structure, characterization, and setting, etc. O'Neill's use of the female as center in Strange Interlude concurs with Taoist philosophy of femininity. The Taoist feminine is the valley of all things under heaven, the mother of all things, and the source of all life. Therefore Nina draws all males to her like the valley and the low ground that gather water in one place. The image of the feminine as the center of life in this play is Taoistic. And the pattern of return in the sense that all return to the original place is also characteristically Taoistic. Nina returns to Marsden and her childhood garden. In completing the pattern of return to source, this cyclic concept of change and return corresponds with the Taoistic concept of the universe.

韓國人 學生의 腦機能 優勢(Cerebral Dominance)와 손잡이(Handedness)의 傾向

This study was investigated the effects of specialization of brain functions, the distribution of handedness and the correlation between cerebral dominance and handedness. This was surveyed with the samples of 1,302 Korean boys and girls attending in junior high school and senior high school, residing in Taegu city. In this study, Alfred W. Munzert's questionnaire and Tames Bliss & Joseph Morella's questionnaire were used as the instrument for assessing the thend of cerebral dominance and handedness. The results obtained were as follows: Out of the total number of 1,302 examined, 73.7% of them were regarded as right hemisphere dominant type and 12.6% of them were regarded as left hemisphere dominant type. In right hemisphere dominant type, students of junior high school were higher incidence than senior high School. In bilateral and left hemisphere dominant type, students of senior high school were higher incidence than junior high school. In right handers most of them were right hemisphere dominant type. In left handers, most of them were right hemisphere dominant type and the incidence of boys were higher than girls.

In the process of ingot pulling of the Si single crystal, the pulling velocity of the single crystal silicon should be faster than the dislocation propagation velocity in order to have uniform resistivity in (100) plane. The (100) plane has no dislocation when single crystal seed is contacted and seperated from the melt. Oxygen content of the Si ingot should be controlled by melting Si in Ar gas atmosphere with magnetic field to increase the viscosity of the melt. The efficiency of the Si wafer solar cell can be enhanced by (1) removing the defects in the Si wafer, (2) minimizing the recombination and thermalization of the atoms which lead to energy loss, (3) forming pyramid structure on the cell surface to reduce reflection of the light. 전위된 상악 견치 및 하악 측절치의 치험례

Tooth transposition is an anomaly of eruption characterized by the interchanged positions of two adjacent teeth, which is divided into complete and incomplete transposition. There are three common approaches for treating transposition: aligning the involved teeth in their transposed positions, moving them to their correct anatomic position in the arch and extracting one of the transposed teeth. Considerations in treatment plans are esthetic, function, risk of jeopardizing the roots and damaging the supporting structures, position of the root apex, developmental stages of teeth and expected compliance. The presented case reports described one maxillary canine-the first premolar transposition and two mandibular lateral incisor-canine transpositions. The former transposed teeth were arranged in their transposed position, and the latter transposed teeth were rearranged into their normal position. 치아전위란 인접한 두 치아의 위치가 서로 바뀐 치아 위치 이상을 말하며, 치관과 치근의 위치에 따라 완전전위와 불완전전위로 나눌 수 있다. 하악보다는 상악에 편측성으로 호발하며, 특히 상악 견치에서 자주 발생한다. 전위는 발견 시기와 전위된 양상에 따라 치료방법이 달라질 수 있다. 본 증례는 상악 견치와 제1소구치 간의 전위가 일어난 10세 7개월의 환아와 하악 측절치와 견치 간의 전위가 일어난 8세 11개월 환아와 8세 9개월 환아의 교정치료에 대한 것으로 양호한 치료 결과를 얻었고, 증례 별로 치료방법의 차이점에 관한 고찰을 하였기에 이를 보고하는 바이다.

In The Iceman Cometh, O'Neill struggles to harmonize their thematic oppositions between life and death in the same way the Tao reconciles yin and yang. This play structures its larger oppositions in this manner The play begins, for example, in a scene of life though it is minimal. In opening scene, the derelicts in Hope's saloon fall in their pipe dreams and wait for Hickey as a bringer of life. Yet when Hickey arrives and pitilessly divests all of their pipe dreams, it is death that Hickey, "iceman" of the title, brings to them, as all eventually recognize him as the agent of death. Therefore the derelicts shift toward death and only return to life after Hickey's departure. Similarly, life and death alternate and interpenetrate : the illusions, life to them, dominate the first two acts, death in acts three and four, but the conclusion finds the derelicts immersed again in happy illusion except for Larry, who grimly faces the horrid truths about himself revealed by Hickey and Parritt. Larry claims to have discovered serenity through transcendence of illusion, but he realizes that it is the very his illusion due to Parritt's suicide. So he has to lapse into a state of 'living death', staring into both aspects of life until he dies.

VDT작업자에서 어깨 근육장애와 혈청 CPK의 관련성

VDT workers are often exposed to static load in the shoulder stabilizing muscle due to repetitive work over long periods. Many investigations were reported the relationships between static load due to repetitive work and regional muscle disorder. However, diagnostic approach to work-related muscle disorder is difficult due to the absence of objective dignostic tools. This study was performed to investigate the relationship between the serum CPK(creatine phosphokinase) concentrations and the shoulder muscle disorders. Results are as follow. 1. Mean serum CPK in total VDT workers was 67.6±28.4 IU/l and workers with abnormal serum CPK were 35(21.5%). 2. Comparison between cases and controls did not show significant difference in the serum CPK level and the distribution of abnormal findings. 3. Sensitivity and sepcificity of the CPK test was 23.0% and 82.0%, respectively. Above results, in accordance with literatures, show that while serum CPK measurement can be useful for the diagnosis of acute muscle injury, it does not adequately reflect the muscle disorders developed by the repetitive work of low tension over long time, such as VDT works.
