A monophosphonic group-functionalized ion-imprinted polymer for a removal of Fe3+ from highly concentrated basic chromium sulfate solution

        Guang-jin Zhu,Hai-yan Tang,Peng-hui Qing,Hong-ling Zhang,Xi-chuan Cheng,Zai-hua Cai,Hong-bin Xu,Yi Zhang 한국화학공학회 2020 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.37 No.5

An ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) with monophosphonic groups was prepared by thermal copolymerization. Bis(2-methacryloxyethyl) phosphate (BMAOP) was used as functional monomer to react with Fe3+ in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) was used as cross-linker during polymerization process. A suitable molar ratio of BMAOP to Fe3+ was investigated by UV/Vis/NIR Spectrometer and ICP-OES. The obtained results showed that the monophosphonic groups could be selectively combined with Fe3+ in solutions containing other coexisting ions, and the selectivity could be further enhanced by ion-imprinted process. The prepared IIP was used for removing trace Fe3+ from high concentration basic chromium sulfate solutions. After adsorption process, the concentration of Fe3+ could be reduced from 4.486mg L1 to 0.171mg L1, which was much lower than the concentration in the solution treated by non-imprinted polymer (NIP). Moreover, the IIP exhibited excellent recyclability after six adsorption-desorption cycles.

Anti-Rollover Control Based on Stable Zone Partition of Counterbalanced Forklift Trucks

        Xia Guang,Xia Yan,Tang Xiwen,Zhao Linfeng,Hu Jinfang 한국자동차공학회 2021 International journal of automotive technology Vol.22 No.6

To improve the anti-rollover capacity of a counterbalanced forklift, a two-stage rollover dynamic model is established on the basis of the forklift structure. Stable zones are divided according to the two-stage lateral load transfer rate: stable region, relatively stable region, dangerous zone and abnormal dangerous zone. An anti-rollover layered control strategy based on stable zone partition is proposed, and different anti-rollover control actuators are selected: dynamic balance weight, anti-rollover cylinder and steering cylinder. Anti-rollover controllers consist of the upper stable region identification controller, the middle-level controller based on model predictive control (MPC) and the lower layer executive controller. The upper stable region identification controller performs stable zone recognition based on the two-stage lateral load transfer rate. The middlelevel MPC controller calculates the required control torque with the body’s lateral angle and yaw rate as the control objectives. The lower layer executive controller controls the balance weight, anti-rollover cylinder and the steering cylinder according to the improved chain incremental allocation method to meet the target control torque. Simulation and real vehicle tests based on MATLAB/Simulink show that the anti-rollover control based on stable zone partition can greatly reduce the risk of forklift rollover and improve the forklift safety.

Cr(VI) Resistance and Removal by Indigenous Bacteria Isolated from Chromium-Contaminated Soil

( Dong Yan Long ),( Xian Jin Tang ),( Kuan Cai ),( Guang Cun Chen ),( Chao Feng Shen ),( Ji Yan Shi ),( Ling Gui Chen ),( Ying Xu Chen ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2013 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.23 No.8

The removal of toxic Cr(VI) by microorganisms is a promising approach for Cr(VI) pollution remediation. In the present study, four indigenous bacteria, named LY1, LY2, LY6, and LY7, were isolated from Cr(VI)-contaminated soil. Among the four Cr(VI)-resistant isolates, strain LY6 displayed the highest Cr(VI)-removing ability, with 100 mg/l Cr(VI) being completely removed within 144 h. It could effectively remove Cr(VI) over a wide pH range from 5.5 to 9.5, with the optimal pH of 8.5. The amount of Cr(VI) removed increased with initial Cr(VI) concentration. Data from the time-course analysis of Cr(VI) removal by strain LY6 followed first-order kinetics. Based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence, strain LY6 was identified as Pseudochrobactrum asaccharolyticum, a species that had never been reported for Cr(VI) removal before. Transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis further confirmed that strain LY6 could accumulate chromium within the cell while conducting Cr(VI) removal. The results suggested that the indigenous bacterial strain LY6 would be a new candidate for potential application in Cr(VI) pollution bioremediation.

      • Energetics and kinetics of Cu atoms and clusters on the Si(111)-7 × 7 surface: first-principles calculations

        Ren, Xiao-Yan,Niu, Chun-Yao,Chen, Wei-Guang,Tang, Ming-Sheng,Cho, Jun-Hyung The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016 Physical chemistry chemical physics Vol.18 No.27

Exploring the properties of noble metal atoms and nano- or subnano-clusters on the semiconductor surface is of great importance in many surface catalytic reactions, self-assembly processes, crystal growth, and thin film epitaxy. Here, the energetics and kinetic properties of a single Cu atom and previously reported Cu magic clusters on the Si(111)-(7 x 7) surface are re-examined by the state-of-the-art first-principles calculations based on density functional theory. First of all, the diffusion path and high diffusion rate of a Cu atom on the Si(111)-(7 x 7) surface are identified by mapping out the total potential energy surface of the Cu atom as a function of its positions on the surface, supporting previous experimental hypothesis that the apparent triangular light spots observed by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) are resulted from a single Cu atom frequently hopping among adjacent adsorption sites. Furthermore, our findings confirm that in the low coverage of 0.15 monolayer (ML) the previously proposed hexagonal ring-like Cu-6 cluster configuration assigned to the STM pattern is considerably unstable. Importantly, the most stable Cu-6/Si(111) complex also possesses a distinct simulated STM pattern with the experimentally observed ones. Instead, an energetically preferred solid-centered Cu-7 structure exhibits a reasonable agreement between the simulated STM patterns and the experimental images. Therefore, the present findings convincingly rule out the tentative six-atom model and provide new insights into the understanding of the well-defined Cu nanocluster arrays on the Si(111)-(7 x 7) surface.

Optical Triangular Waveform Generation with Alterable Symmetry Index Based on a Cascaded SD-MZM and Polarization Beam Splitter-combiner Architecture

        Dun Sheng Shang,Guang Fu Bai,Jian Tang,Yan Ling Tang,Guang Xin Wang,Nian Xie 한국광학회 2023 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.7 No.5

A scheme is proposed to generate triangular waveforms with alterable symmetry. The key component is a cascaded single-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (SD-MZM) and optical polarization beam splittercombiner architecture. In this triangular waveform generator, the bias-induced phase shift, modulation index and controllable delay difference are changeable. To generate triangular waveform signals with different symmetry indexes, different combinations of these variables are selected. Compared with the previous schemes, this generator just contains one SD-MZM and the balanced photodetector (BPD) is not needed, which means the costs and energy consumption are significantly reduced. The operation principle of this triangular waveform generator has been theoretically analyzed, and the corresponding simulation is conducted. Based on the theoretical and simulated results, some experiments are demonstrated to prove the validity of the scheme. The triangular waveform signals with a symmetry factor range of 20–80% are generated. Both experiment and theory prove the feasibility of this method.

Synergistic Inhibitory Effect of Berberine and d-Limonene on Human Gastric Carcinoma Cell Line MGC803

        Xiu-Zhen Zhang,Ling Wang,Dongwu Liu,Guang-Yan Tang,Hongyu Zhang 한국식품영양과학회 2014 Journal of medicinal food Vol.17 No.9

This study aims at evaluating the anticancer effects of berberine hydrochloride (berberine) and d-limonene, alone and in combination, on human gastric carcinoma cell line MGC803 to determine whether berberine and d-limonene work synergistically and elucidate their mechanisms. MGC803 cells were treated with berberine and d-limonene, alone and in combination, for 24–48 h. The inhibitory effects of these drugs on growth were determined by MTT assay. The combination index and drug reduction index were calculated with the Chou–Talalay method based on the median-effect principle. Flow cytometry and laser scanning confocal microscopy were employed to evaluate the effects of both drugs on cell-cycle perturbation and apoptosis, generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential, and expression of Bcl-2 and caspase-3 in MGC803 cells. Berberine or d-limonene alone can inhibit the growth of MGC803 cells in a doseand time-dependent manner. Berberine and d-limonene at a combination ratio of 1:4 exhibited a synergistic effect on anti-MGC803 cells. The two drugs distinctly induced intracellular ROS generation, reduced the mitochondrial transmembrane potential (DCm), enhanced the expression of caspase-3, and decreased the expression of Bcl-2. The combination of berberine and d-limonene showed more remarkable effects compared with drugs used singly in MGC803 cells. The combination of berberine and d-limonene exerted synergistic anticancer effects on MGC803 cells by cell-cycle arrest, ROS production, and apoptosis induction through the mitochondria-mediated intrinsic pathway.

Identification and Mapping of a Thermo-Sensitive Genic Self-Incompatibility Gene in Maize

        Xin Ge Lin,Hui Ling Xie,Zhang Ying Xi,Yan Min Hu,Guang Yuan Zhao,Liu Jing Duan,Zong You Hao,Zong Hua Liu,Ji Hua Tang 한국유전학회 2009 Genes & Genomics Vol.31 No.3

In this study, we describe a novel ecological self-incompatibility (SI) line HE97 in maize. The main environmental factors influencing the inbred line characteristics were identified through field sowing trials during a two-year study period (2001 and 2002). The results showed that daily minimum temperature had the greatest effect on floral morphology and breeding system of the SI line. In staminate floret differentiation, when the daily minimum temperature exceeded 24℃, the line exhibited complete self-compatibility; however SI was observed when the daily minimum temperature was below 20℃. Therefore, we characterized the line as exhibiting thermo-sensitive genic self-incompatibility (TGSI). A set of F2 and F2:3 populations, derived from the inbred lines HE97 and Z58, were evaluated for two years to elucidate the TGSI line patterns of inheritance. Classical genetic analyses and QTL mapping results revealed that HE97 self-incompatibility was governed by a single allele, named here as tgsi1. The tgsi1 gene was mapped to chromosome 2 between SSR markers nc131 and bnlg1633, with a distance of 2.40 cM from nc131 and 2.44 cM from bnlg1633.
