This paper introduces a platform of Urban Tourism Scenario Game, which is created to enhance the teaching-learning process of tourism geography and planning through a scenario-based game of a hypothetical city under urban tourism development. This study evaluates and compares the effectiveness of the game in terms of knowledge enrichment, attitudinal changes and usability of the game platform rated by the groups of undergraduate student participants. The overall effectiveness of the game is generally found positive. Paired-sample t-test results indicate that the users have significant positive changes in the dimension of knowledge. Cluster analysis identified two participant groups, namely activecognitive and knowledge-focused learners, which indicated their different aspects of effectiveness from either game-based or discussion learning. This urban tourism scenario game raises students’ learning interests more than acting as a substitute for traditional lecturing. Game-based learning in this urban tourism platform has opened the potential to lead to attitudinal changes by simulating and presenting real-world environments similar to other areas in geography education. Given an arguably lack of clear pattern of the learning enhancement, it is critical that game-based teaching should still be incorporated with other instructional classroom activities to deliver effective knowledge transfer.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P>The aims of this study were to (1) describe our functional stepwise multiple needle puncturing (MNP) technique as the final step in medial ligament balancing during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and (2) evaluate whether this technique can provide sufficient medial release with safety.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>A total of 137 patients with 212 consecutive knees who underwent TKAs with or without functional stepwise MNP of superficial medial collateral ligament was recruited in this prospective cohort. Eighty-one patients with 129 knees who performed serial stress radiographs were enrolled in the final assessment. Superficial medial collateral ligament was punctured selectively (anteriorly or posteriorly or both) and sequentially depending on the site and degree of tightness. Mediolateral stability was assessed using serial stress radiographs and comparison was performed between the MNP and the non-MNP groups at postoperative 6 months and 1 year. Clinical outcomes were also evaluated between 2 groups.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>Fifty-five TKAs required additional stepwise MNP (anterior needling 19, posterior needling 3, both anterior and posterior needling 33). Preoperative hip-knee-ankle angle and the difference in varus-valgus stress angle showed significant difference between the MNP and the non-MNP groups, respectively (<I>P</I> = .009, <I>P</I> = .037). However, there was no significant difference when comparing the varus-valgus stress angle between the MNP and the non-MNP groups during serial assessment. Clinical outcomes including range of motion also showed no significant differences between the 2 groups.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>Functional medial ligament balancing with stepwise MNP can provide sufficient medial release with safety in TKA with varus aligned knee without clinical deterioration or complication such as instability.</P> <P><B>Level of Evidence</B></P> <P>Level II, Prospective cohort study.</P>

Approximately 25% to 40% of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have the eosinophilic endotype. It is important to identify this group accurately because they are more symptomatic and are at increased risk for exacerbations and accelerated decline in forced expiratory volume in the 1st second. Importantly, this endotype is a marker of treatment responsiveness to inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), resulting in decreased mortality risk. In this review, we highlight differences in the biology of eosinophils in COPD compared to asthma and the different definitions of the COPD eosinophilic endotype based on sputum and blood eosinophil count (BEC) with the corresponding limitations. Although BEC is useful as a biomarker for eosinophilic COPD endotype, optimal BEC cut- offs can be combined with clinical characteristics to improve its sensitivity and specificity. A targeted approach comprising airway eosinophilia and appropriate clinical and physiological features may improve identification of subgroups of patients who would benefit from biologic therapy or early use of ICS for disease modification.

Positive psychology emerged as a movement in professional psychology that emphasizes the positive psychological aspects of the individual instead of focusing on diagnosis and psychopathology. Peterson and Seligman (2004) developed and validated the 240-item Virtues in Action Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS) to assess character strengths and virtues that enable optimal human thriving. However, VIA-IS is often considered too long for use by clinicians in their private practices, as well as for researchers interested in conducting positive psychology research. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of a 24-item Values in Action Semantic Differential Scale (VIA-SDS) in a sample of 231 Singaporean university students. Exploratory factor analysis revealed a 4-factor measurement structure (Humanity, Optimism, Leadership, and Creativity) with Cronbach’s alpha coefficients ranging from .67 to .88. Three of the four latent variables were positively associated with happiness and negatively related to perceived stress and depression. These findings support the validity of the VIA-SDS for use as a brief clinical assessment instrument by clinicians and researchers to assess character strengths.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had significant adverse effects on the mental health of college students around the world. The purpose of the present study was to examine the constructs of Lazarus and Folkman’s stress-appraisal-coping theory as predictors of subjective well-being in Chinese college students during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Participants included 244 Chinese college students. The final hierarchical regression model accounted for 71% of the variance in subjective well-being scores, a large effect size. In the final model, positive stress appraisal, hope, core self-evaluations and resilience remain significant after controlling for other variables. Coping flexibility were significant at the zero-order correlation level and at the step, it was entered into the equation. The effect of perceived stress dissipated in the presence of the positive person-environment contextual variables. Findings provide strong empirical support for the use of positive person-environment contextual variables as a stress management and subjective well-being model for college students during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings can be used to guide counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists in college health services in the selection of brief screening psychological instruments and empirically supported psychosocial and counseling interventions to help college students develop character strengths, positive attitudes, and coping skills to effectively cope with COVID-related challenges and stressors and possible future outbreaks of novel contagious diseases and crisis situations.
