Effect of Ionizing Radiation on Rat Tissue: Proteomic and Biochemical Analysis

<P>Reactive oxygen species (ROS), generated by ionizing radiation, has been implicated in its effect on living tissues. We confirmed the changes in the oxidative stress markers upon irradiation. We characterized the changes in the proteome profile in rat liver after administering irradiation, and the affected proteins were identified by MALDI-TOF-MS and ESI-MS/MS. The identified proteins represent diverse sets of proteins participating in the cellular metabolism. Our results demonstrated that proteomics analysis is a useful method for characterization of a global proteome change caused by ionizing radiation to unravel the molecular mechanisms involved in the cellular responses to ionizing radiation.</P>

Concrete is an excellent structural material, but it has many problems due to brittle behavior, weak resistance in tension, flexibility and toughness. In order to improve these problems, usually fiber reinforced concrete is used. But in the case of GFRC insufficient workability is caused by using glass fiber and there is lack of studying on it. This report of the following concrete of GFRC was experimented by the different W/C, S/A, glass fiber contents and maximum size of Aggregates. The results of this study is as follows; 1) Optimum S/A ratio is 0.6 at the glass fiber contents of from 0.25% to 0.75% in GFRC, but it cannot be obtained optimum S/A ratio at over 0.75. 2) Even though increasing the W/C ratio, we can get more slump, but slump is much more influenced by fiber contents in GFRC rather than increasing the W/C ratio. 3) Workability of GFRC is much more influenced by fiber contents than fiber length. 4) Workability of GFRC is a little improved by the bigger maximum size of aggregates.

This is a series of continuing research on facial bone fractures of Koreans worked by Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Dental College of Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, since 1972. The study was based on a series of 630 patients with facial bone fractures treated as in patient at Yonsei Medical Center, Yonsei University, during the period of Jan. 1982 through Dec, 1987. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The ratio of Men to Women was 4.3 : 1, and admissions for facial bone fractures have been increased year after 1984. 2. The age frequency was highest in the third decade(38.3%). and fourth, second, fifth decade in orders. 3. The traffic accident was the most frequent cause of facial bone fractures(51.3%). 4. The most common location of facial bone fractures was the Mandible(35.3%), and Zygoma complex(29.8%), Nasal bone(15.0%), Maxilla(11.0%) were next in order of frequency. 5. In 291 patients of Mandible fractures, 226(77.7%) had fractures only in Mandible and 65(22.3%) had another facial bone fractures. The most frequent fracture site of mandible was the Symphysis(43.0%) and Angle(22.4%), and Simple fracture was the most frequent in type of fracture(66.9%). Intermaxillarty fixatin & Open reduction was major method of treatment(36.9%). 6. In 394 patients of Midface fractures 323(82.0%) had fractures only in Midface and 71(18.0%) had another facial bone fractures. The most frequent site of Midface fractures was zygoma complex & zygomatic arch(42.7%), and Simple fracture was the most common type of fractures. Observation(Maxilla :44.2%, Zygoma :51.0%) and Open Reduction(Maxilla :20.0%. Zygoma :23.5%) were the major method of treatment. 7. The frequency of Nasal bone fracture was about 1/5 of Midface fractures, and Closed Reduction(42.2%) was the major method of treatment. 8. The complication was reported in only 16 patients, and Malunion was the major complication. 9. Head(44.4%), Lower extrimities(14.5%) and Eye(12.3%) were injured commonly with facial bone fractures. 10. The elapsed time from injury to hospital was within 24 hours in 73.8% of patients, however 15.5% of patients arrived the hospital 72 hours after injury.
VoD streaming synchronization mechanism with multiple users for service continuity

<P>In this paper, we propose multiple users-based streaming service synchronization mechanism for streaming delivery and synchronization in wire-wireless service environment and analyze the available network performance. Current structure of streaming service for multiple users is not designed to be suitable for the purpose of service continuity. So, multiple users cannot be provided with seamless media experience in wire-wireless service environment. Extending the concept from one user to multiple users, we identify the possibility of service continuity. We introduce the concept of streaming service synchronization, and implement VoD streaming service using proposed synchronized mechanism, and then analyze the available network performance. Finally we discuss the feasibility and practicality in aspect of service deployment.</P>
Junction Design Strategy for Si Bulk FinFETs for System-on-Chip Applications Down to the 7-nm Node

<P>DC/AC characteristics of Si bulk FinFETs including middle-of-line levels are precisely investigated using well-calibrated 3-D device simulations for system-on-chip applications. Scaling the fin widths down to 5 nm effectively enhances gate-to-channel controllability and improves RC delay, but a dramatic increase in band-to-band tunneling currents from source-to-drain does not satisfy low-power application in the 7-nm node. All lightly-doped extension regions as a solution could improve band-to-band tunneling currents and total gate capacitances because of better short-channel immunity and lower parasitic capacitances, respectively. Using systematic TCAD-based RC calculation, we suggest optimized overlap/underlap lengths in the 7-nm node FinFETs to overcome the scaling limitations.</P>

Developed countries have resolved for the best steps(measures) dealing with global warming at the COP3 which is under discussion on taking effective actions against global warming. The Kyoto Protocol(Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) was carried out as of Feb sixteenth, 2005, Its principal points are setting reduced goals with binding force in developed countries, new introduction of ways to cut down the greenhouse gas and attaining the goal which is to diminish greenhouse gas with allied countries. There are subjects of reduction that have been CO₂, CH₄, N₂O, HFCs, HFCs, SF6, and so on. The part of transport is especially asked for diminishing CO₂. This is connected with efficiency of backup logistic. The industry of the logistics has achieved a rapid growth in South Korea. Even if the logistic costs in Korea’s enterprises account for 9.9%, the figure is below the level 7.1% of US, 5.1% of Japan. To revise and make up for it from aspects of stated above the environmental problems and cost -cutting, we will curtail distribution costs and improve the quality which meets the needs of clients. In consequence we try to contribute much for retarding global warming through diminished CO₂. We will make a suggestion how logistic industry should proceed by introducing TMS which has been improved in the field. From this research, we make a model of TMS that has been issued in this field of logistic system at H company and look into the effects of TMS. Moreover we try to check CO₂ emissions according to current routes and compare with how far the company has an effect after applying to TMS.
