Background/Aims: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a standard treatment for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but there is much controversy about TACE refractoriness. The aim of this study was to identify trends in the actual clinical application of TACE and recognition of TACE refractoriness by Korean experts. Methods: In total, 17 questionnaires on TACE refractoriness were administered to 161 clinicians via an online survey. Multiple answers were allowed for some questions. Results: Most clinicians agreed that there is a need for standardization of TACE application through specific scoring systems (n=124, 77.0%). TACE refractoriness was predominantly expected by participants when recurrences were detected within 1 month (n=70, 43.5%), there were 4 to 6 tumors (n=77, 47.8%), the maximal tumor size was 3–5 cm (n=49, 30.4%), and when there was insufficient tumor necrosis despite TACE being repeated more than three times (n=78, 48.4%). Overall, sorafenib therapy (n=137) and radiotherapy (n=114) were preferred when repeated TACE was considered ineffective. Conclusions: Treatment of HCC is often based on the clinical judgment of clinicians because of the heterogeneity among individuals. Experts need to continue discussions on the standardization and sub-classification of HCC treatment guidelines in Korea.
The role of immunomodulatory metabolites in shaping the inflammatory response of macrophages

Macrophage activation has long been implicated in a myriad of human pathophysiology, particularly in the context of the dysregulated capacities of an unleashing intracellular or/and extracellular inflammatory response. A growing number of studies have functionally coupled the macrophages’ inflammatory capacities with dynamic metabolic reprogramming which occurs during activation, albeit the results have been mostly interpreted through classic metabolism point of view; macrophages take advantage of the rewired metabolism as a source of energy and for biosynthetic precursors. However, a specific subset of metabolic products, namely immune-modulatory metabolites, has recently emerged as significant regulatory signals which control inflammatory responses in macrophages and the relevant extracellular milieu. In this review, we introduce recently highlighted immuno-modulatory metabolites, with the aim of understanding their physiological and pathological relevance in the macrophage inflammatory response. RISC-V 가상플랫폼 기반 Yolov3-tiny 물체 탐지 딥러닝 모델 구현

딥러닝 기술의 발전으로 객체 인색, 영상 분석에 관한 성능이 비약적으로 발전하였다. 하지만 고성능 GPU 를 사용하는 컴퓨팅 환경이 아닌 제한적인 엣지 디바이스 환경에서의 영상 처리 및 딥러닝 모델의 적용을 위해서는 엣지 디바이스에서 딥러닝 모델 실행 환경 과 이에 대한 분석이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 RISC-V ISA 를 구현한 RISC-V 가상 플랫폼에 yolov3-tiny 모델 기반 객체인식 시스템을 소프트웨어 레벨에서 포팅하여 구현하고, 샘플 이미지에 대한 네트워크 딥러닝 연산 및 객체 인식 알고리즘을 적용하여 그 결과를 도출하여 보았다. 본 적용을 바탕으로 RISC-V 기반 임베디드 엣지 디바이스 플랫폼에서 딥러닝 네트워크 연산과 객체 인식 알고리즘의 수행에 대한 분석과 딥러닝 연산 최적화를 위한 알고리즘 연구에 활용할 수 있다.

Etherification of glycerol by isobutylene was performed using ion-exchange resin Amberlyst 15, partially neutralized Amberlyst 15 as heterogeneous catalyst, and p-toluenesulfonic acid as a homogeneous catalyst. Amberlyst 15 exhibited strong internal diffusion limitations for the initial composition of reaction mixture. Diffusion limitations decrease in the course of reaction due to the accumulation of mono-ether having excellent solubilizing properties. Oligomerized isobutylene is a dominant by-product for high isobutylene-to-glycerol ratio and long contact time in the case of Amberlyst 15. Density reduction of acidic protons in Amberlyst 15 by partial ion exchange with sodium ions leads to considerable reduction of isobutylene affinity to Amberlyst 15, and as a result, it reduced losses of isobutylene. This partial neutralization leads to lower space-time yields of target products, but enhances selectivity to higher ethers with maintaining conversion of glycerol over 95%.

<P>A possible application of acupuncture in alleviating depression-like behavioral changes and regulating serotonin signaling in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) of maternally-separated rat pups was investigated in this study. On postnatal day 15, rat pups were maternally-separated and received acupuncture stimulation at acupoint HT7 or ST36 once a day for 7 days. On postnatal day 21, the tail suspension test was performed and the PFC was harvested. Tissue levels of serotonin (5-HT) and 5-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid (5-HIAA) were then measured by high-performance liquid chromatography and expression of serotonin transporter (5-HTT) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) were assessed by western blotting. Levels of 5-HT and 5-HIAA were not significantly changed, but the 5-HIAA/5-HT ratio was significantly increased by maternal separation. The immobility time of maternally-separated rat pups was increased, and increased 5-HTT expression and reduced BDNF level were observed in the PFC. But acupuncture stimulation at HT7 alleviated the behavioral change and regulated the changes of 5-HIAA/5-HT ratio, 5-HTT, and BDNF. In conclusion, acupuncture stimulation at HT7 can relieve maternal separation-induced changes, and we propose that regulation of the 5-HIAA/5-HT ratio and of 5-HTT expression by acupuncture stimulation are important acupuncture-induced benefits in this animal model of depression.</P>
