Genome Sequence Analysis of H5N1 Influenza A Virus Isolated from a Vietnamese in 2007

Highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza A virus (AIV) crossed the species barrier and caused a number of deaths in humans in Vietnam and 14 other countries. Since the last report of human H5N1 infection in November 2005, the first documented H5N1 human infection was reported in June 2007 in Vietnam and was followed by 7 more cases, including 5 fatalities. In this study, we isolated and analyzed the full length of the H5N1 genome from a sample from the first patient in 2007. Phylogenetic analysis of eight genomic segments of the H5N1 virus strain (A/Vietnam/HN/2007, VNH07) revealed that this strain appears to be of genotype V and contains the HA gene, which is classified into clade 2.3.4. The deduced amino acid sequence of the HA protein has a typical affinity sequence for α2,3 linkage (SAα2,3-Gal) receptors and typical multibasic cleavage sequences. Compared with other H5N1 isolates, VNH07 showed that the possible reassortments for the NA and NP segments occurred between A/goose/Guangxi/3017/2005-like isolates (2.3.2) and A/human/Zhejiang/16/2006-like isolates (2.3.4).

Purpose - Because it is not possible to assess the quality of service products before experiencing them, one feature of a service product is quality uncertainty; hence consumers may react sensitively to pricing. It is necessary to investigate how different pricing strategies affect consumer purchase intention depending on the level of service quality uncertainty. Research design, data, and methodology – The authors have investigated the potential impact of the level of service quality uncertainty, price discount rate and presentation method on consumer purchase intention. A play was selected as an experimental stimulus, and Vietnamese consumers were surveyed to verify the hypotheses. Results - When uncertainty regarding service quality is low, consumer purchase intention is higher when the price discount rate is high or when the price is low. When uncertainty regarding service quality is high, if the normal price, discount rate, and discounted price are presented simultaneously, consumer purchase intention is higher when the price discount rate is low, but when only the discounted price is presented, purchase intention is higher when the price discount rate is high. Conclusions - The results of this study can provide valuable practical implications for pricing for service products with quality uncertainty.

The demand for poly(1,4-cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate) (PCT), a polyester with enhanced thermal and mechanical properties owing to the ring structure, is growing, necessitating advancing recycling technologies. However, challenges including preventing of increasing molecular weight and viscosity in the diol removal and concentration process, arise post-depolymerization during the chemical recycling of PCT. This study presents an innovative method to prepare liquid dihydroxyl group-terminated oligomers directly from PCT depolymerization using the metal chelate ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Initially, PCT was depolymerized using an excess diethylene glycol and a Zn2+ catalyst to form an intermediate. Subsequently, the chelating agent was added, and the residual glycol was distilled and recovered under reduced pressure. EDTA was used to block the activity of the catalyst during high-temperature distillation to afford maximum trimer chain length and low-viscosity liquid polyols. 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance, gel permeation chromatography, and a viscometer were used to confirm the structure, molecular weight distribution, and viscosity of the prepared polyol, respectively. The as-prepared polyols were used as soft segments with 4,4’-methylene-bis(phenyl isocyanate) and 1,4-butanediol during the manufacturing of thermoplastic polyurethanes. The resulting polyurethane was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and mechanical testing.
Patient Flow Optimization for Outpatient Department Using Discrete-Event Simulation

The patient's waiting time and length of stay have been reported as a factor decreasing their satisfaction in the hospital, especially in developing countries. This paper focuses on modeling hospital's outpatient department workflow in a developing country and optimizing the patient waiting time as well as total length of stay. By using discrete-event simulation, many alternative scenarios have raised, such as adding more working time, altering human resources, and adjusting the staff's responsibility, those scenarios will be examined to explore better settings for the hospital. The results show that possible to achieve a 9.6% reduction in patient total length of stay and it could be accomplished without adding more resources to the hospital.

The chronic wound due to the extended inflammatory phase and the reduced vascularization has caused serious problems to human health. Currently, nitric oxide (NO) is an endogenous gas molecule that involves in many physiological processes. However, the clinical application of NO is limited due to their burst and short half-life release from the biomaterials. In this study, copper nanoparticles (a NO-generating catalyst) were incorporated in the gelatin-based hydrogel (GH) for in situ generation of NO in the presence of endogenous S-nitrosothiol. The fabricated hydrogel presented the sustained release of NO for over 3 weeks within the physiological level, which stimulated the in vitro anti-inflammatory and angiogenic properties. Besides, the chorioallantoic membrane and in vivo animal study also confirm the angiogenic activity of GH/Cu hydrogel. Overall, GH/Cu hydrogel presented as a promising material for wound healing treatment.

Catalytic hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) is a process for removing of oxygen from oxygen-containingcompounds using a catalyst. In this study, spherical bimetallic NiMo/Al2O3–TiO2 catalysts with differentNi/Mo ratios were successfully synthesized by combining sol–gel method and continuousflow spraypyrolysis process. The prepared catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption, TEM, SEM,XRD, XPS, H2-TPR and NH3-TPD analyses. The catalysts were then applied for HDO of guaiacol as a modelcompound using afixed-bed reactor. The effects of bimetallic compositions and reduction temperatureson HDO conversion of guaiacol as well as their product distributions were systematically investigated. The obtained results showed that bimetallic NiMo/Al2O3–TiO2 exhibited higher HDO conversion thanmonometallic catalysts (Ni/Al2O3–TiO2 or Mo/Al2O3–TiO2). The highest HDO conversion of 98% with 100%hydrocarbon selectivity (85% cyclohexane, 13% methylcyclohexane and 2% toluene) was obtained over(10 wt% Ni and 20 wt% Mo)/Al2O3–TiO2 catalyst. In addition, the catalyst maintained a good catalyticstability for 24 h of reaction time, suggesting that spray pyrolysis derived NiMo/Al2O3–TiO2 catalyst canbe a promising catalyst for HDO performance.
