        Accuracy of cardiac output measurements during off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting: according to the vessel anastomosis sites

        Background: During beating heart surgery, the accuracy of cardiac output (CO) measurement techniques may be influenced by several factors. This study was conducted to analyze the clinical agreement among stat CO mode (SCO), continuous CO mode (CCO), arterial pressure waveform-based CO estimation (APCO), and transesophageal Doppler ultrasound technique (UCCO) according to the vessel anastomosis sites. Methods: This study was prospectively performed in 25 patients who would be undergoing elective OPCAB. Hemodynamic variables were recorded at the following time points: during left anterior descending (LAD) anastomosis at 1 min and 5 min; during obtuse marginal (OM) anastomosis at 1 min and 5 min: and during right coronary artery (RCA) anastomosis at 1 min and 5 min. The variables measured including the SCO, CCO, APCO, and UCCO. Results: CO measurement techniques showed different correlations according to vessel anastomosis site. However, the percent error observed was higher than the value of 30% postulated by the criteria of Critchley and Critchley during all study periods for all CO measurement techniques. Conclusions: In the beating heart procedure, SCO, CCO and APCO showed different correlations according to the vessel anastomosis sites and did not agree with UCCO. CO values from the various measurement techniques should be interpreted with caution during OPCAB.         건강한 청년의 단시간 공해노출과 일회성 운동이 폐기능과 생리반응에 미치는 영향

        This study examined whether an acute exercise during a short-term exposure to a polluted environment affected pulmonary function and physiological responses in healthy young adults. Thirteen men (mean = 22.4 yrs) were randomly exposed to a polluted air (PA) or to clean air (CA) in a chamber. During the exposure, they rested for 30 min followed by a bench stepping exercise (40 cm height, 120 bpm) for 10 min. And they recovered from the exercise for 15 min in the chamber. The pulmonary function, heart rate, blood lactate, and blood pressure were measured during the exposure. At the end of 30 min resting, peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) was higher in PA than CA. Immediately after the exercise, forced expiratory volume at 1 sec (FEV1) was higher in PA than CA. At 15th min of recovery, forced vital capacity, FEV1, and PEFR were significantly higher in PA than CA. No differences in cardiovascular and blood lactate responses were noticed. The results suggest that an acute intensive physical work out with breathing of volatile organic compounds induced changes of pulmonary function but not physiological adjustments.

      • 각-관 열교환기의 냉각능력 향상에 관한 연구

        본 연구에서는 변압기 냉각용 각-관(Shell and Tube) 열교환기의 성능을 실험적으로 테스트하여 열교환기의 냉각능력을 향상시키는 기술을 개발하고자 하였다. 예열수조 2개를 항온조와 함께 사용함으로써 열교환기 입구에서와 온수의 초기온도를 60℃로 유지하고, cooling tower를 이용하여 입구에서 냉각수 온도를 20℃로 유지하였다. 냉각수 유량변화(5ℓ/min, 10ℓ/min, 15ℓ/min)에 따른 baffle의 형태(Single-segmental baffle, Double-segmental baffle, Disk & Doughnut baffle, Helical baffle)와 baffle의 개수(7개에서 5개) 및 tube의 개수(26개에서 18개)를 변화시켰을 때 열교환기의 냉각능력을 각각 실험하였다. 온수와 냉각수의 입ㆍ출구에서의 온도변화를 측정하기 위하여 Thermocouple을 온수와 냉각수 관의 입ㆍ출구에 하나씩 설치하였다. 실험결과 Disk & Doughnut, Helical baffle, Double-segmental baffle의 열전달률이 Single-segmental baffle보다 5.3%, 5.5%, 11.8% 높고, Double-segmental baffle의 경우 Tube 수의 감소율이 35%일 때 열전달률의 감소율은 14.3%임을 알 수 있었고, baffle의 수가 5개에서 7개로 증가했을 때 열전달률이 12.1% 증가함을 알았다. An experimental study to enhance the cooling capacity of the shell and tube type heat exchanger has been carried out. The initial temperature of hot water in the heat exchanger is maintained at 60℃, using two preheating water baths and one constant temperature water bath, while the coolant temperature is maintained at 20℃ by way of the cooling tower. For the coolant rates of 5 ℓ/min, 10 ℓ/min, 15 ℓ/min, the experiments to determine the heat exchanger cooling capacity have been performed using the various types of baffle(Single- segmental baffle, Double-segmental baffle, Disk & Doughnut baffle, Helical baffle), the number of baffles(from 7 to 5) and number of tubes(from 26 to 18). Thermocouples are installed in the inlet and outlet of hot-water and coolant tube to measure the temperature difference. It was found that the heat transfer rates for Disk & Doughnut baffle, Helical baffle, Double-segmental baffle are 5.3%, 5.5%, 11.8% higher than the Single-segmental baffle, respectively. When the number of tube is reduce by 35%, the 14.3% decrease in the heat transfer rate occurs, while when the number of baffle increases from 5 to 7, the 12% increase in the heat transfer rate occurs.

        고온가열처리에 의한 바다방석고둥 ( Omphalius pfeifferi capenteri ) 의 식품성분 변화

        바다방석고둥을 원료로 한 신제품 개발에 관한 일련의 기초 연구로 저장성 부여를 위하여 시도하는 고온가열처리 조건 (F_0 5분, F_0 10분, F_0 15분 및 F_0 20분)에 따른 바다방석고둥의 성분변화에 대하여 살펴보았다. 바다방석고둥 통조림은 살균을 5분 이상 처리하는 경우 저장 중 팽창관이 발생하지 않았고, 또한 생균수가 검출되지 않아 저장성이 있었다. 고온가열처리 정도가 증가할수록 바다방석고둥의 일반성분 중 수분함량은 감소하였고, 조단백질 함량은 증가하였으며, 조지방 및 조회분 함량은 거의 변화가 없었다. 또한 바다방석 통조림은 고온가열처리 정도가 증가할수록 이취에 관여하는 휘발성염기질소 함량, pH와 색조에 관여하는 갈변도는 증가하였고, 영양에 관여하는 구성아미노산, 무기질과 맛에 관여하는 유리아미노산, TMAO, total creatinine 및 수율 둥은 감소하였다. 이들을 색조, 조직감 및 맛에 대하여 관능검사한 결과 자숙 처리한 시료에 비하여 모든 항목에서 F_0 10분까지는 차이가 없었으나, 그 이상 가열처리한 경우 품질이 저하하였다고 인지되었다. 이상의 결과로 미루어 보아 바다방석고둥을 고온가열처리하여 신제품을 개발하고자 하는 경우 F_0 값이 10분 이상이면 바람직하지 않은 것으로 판단되었다. The top shell, Omphalius pfeifferi capenteri meat vacuum-packed in can (diameter× height, 74.1 ㎜ × 50.7 ㎜) were heated at 115℃ up to F_0 values of 5 min, 10 min, 15 min and 20 min, and the changes in food components were studied. After 14 days storage at 37℃ and 55℃, no growth of microorganism and panelling were recognized from the canned meats which were sterlized at 115℃ with F_0 value of 5 min and over. In the case of proximate composition of the canned meats, the moisture content decreased with the increase of F_0 value, while crude protein increased. The increase of volatile basic nitrogen content, pH and degree of browning and the decrease of mineral, total amino acid, free amino add, trimethylamine oxide, total creatinine contents and yields were observed during thermal processing. In sensory evaluation on color, texture and taste in the canned meats, no significant difference was observed among a boiled sample and the canned meats heated at F_0 value of 10 min and below. But, in the canned meats heated at F_0 value of over 15 min, its sensory scores decreased with the increase of F_0 value. From these results, the reasonable F_0 value for preparation of the heat-treated top shell meats was in the range of 5∼10 min.

        Effects of hydrogen plasma treatment on SnO2:F substrates for amorphous Si thin film solar cells

        We investigated the effects of hydrogen plasma treatment on the physical and electrical properties of fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) films used for amorphous silicon (a-Si) thin film solar cells. A slight increase in carrier concentration by the hydrogen doping effect was observed for the FTO film exposed to the hydrogen plasma for 5 min. For further exposure to the plasma, the chemical reduction became prominent and resulted in deterioration of the electrical and optical properties of the film. XPS analysis revealed that the chemical reduction of SnO2 to Sn metallic state occurs on the surface region. It was found that the defects formed by hydrogen plasma act as recombination centers at the interface between FTO electrode and p-layer of a-Si solar cells. This phenomenon resulted in the deterioration of the cell performance. The averaged conversion efficiency (6.82%) of the cells on pristine FTO hydrogen substrate was decreased to 5.81% for the cells on FTO treated for 5 min, which is mainly attributed to the decrease in short-circuit current density.

        Purification and Characterization of a Xylanase from Bacillus sp . KK-1

        A thermophilic Bacillus sp. strain KK-1 isolated from soil produced an extracelluar xylanase. From the culture supernatant of Bacillus sp., the xylanase was purified to homogeneity by ammonium sulfate precipitation and DEAF-Sephadex A-50 chromatography. The molecular weight of the purified xylanase was estimated to be 45 kDa by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and gel permeation chromatography. The apparent K_m values for xylanase, using oat spelt xylan and birchwood xylan as substrates, were 7.1 ㎎/㎖ and 3.2 ㎎/㎖, and V_(max) values were 27.0 μ㏖·min^(-1)·㎎^(-1) and 29.0 μ㏖·min^(-1)·㎎^(-1), respectively. The xylanase hydrolyzed oat spelt xylan to mostly xylobiose, xytotriose, and xylose. The amino acid composition indicated that the xylanase contained high amounts of amino acid residues of glutamic acid and glutamine (Glx) and aspartic acid and asparagine (Asx).

      • Fast Fabrication of Sub-200-nm Nanogrooves Using Liquid Crystal Material

        <P>Self-assembly of soft materials attracts keen interest for patterning applications owing to its ease and spontaneous behavior. We report the fabrication of nano grooves using sublimation and recondensation of liquid crystal (LC) materials. First, well-aligned smectic LC structures are obtained on the micron-scale topographic patterns of the microchannel; then, the sublimation and recondensation process directly produces nanogrooves having sub-200-nm scale: The entire process can be completed in less than 30 min. After it is replicated using an ultraviolet-curable polymer, our platform can be used as an alignment layer to control other guest LC materials.</P>

      • Bifidobacterium angulatum으로부터 α-galactosidase의 정제 및 특성

        α-galactosidase는 (α-D-galactoside galactohydrolase: EC 3.2.1.22)는 다당류나 올리고당인 melibiose, raffinose, stachyose와 guar gum 등의 α-galactosidic 결합을 하고 있는 당을 분해하는 효소이다. 장내세균중 우익균이며 우세균주인 Bifidobacteria로부터 α-galactosidase의 효소학적 특성을 알아보기 위하여 배양여액으로부터 ammonium sulfate분획, 핵산의 제거, Sephadex G-200 gel filtration 및 DEAE-Sephadex A-50 ion exchange chromatography 등의 4단계 정제과정을 거쳐 정제한 결과 약 8배로 정제되어 단일 단백질로 분리하였다. 또한, 효소분해산물을 알아보기 위하여 TLC에 의하여 당분해 및 올리고당의 생성을 알아보았다. 정제효소의 활성 최적온도는 37℃, 최적 pH는 7.0이었다. 효소활성이 K^+, Zn^2+과 같은 금속이온과 8-Hydroxyquinoline, Sodium Bisulfite 등에 의해선 그다지 저해되지 않았으나, Hg^+, Cu^2+과 p-Chloromercuribenzoic acid에 의해선 저해되었다. 효소의 분자량이 301, 995, 합성기질인 PNPG에 대한 K_m은 0.069mM, V_max는 347.22μmol/min.mg protein이었다. To elucidate enzymatic properties of α-galactosidase (EC 3.2.1.22) from Bif.angulatum. α-galactosidase was purified to homogeneity by ammonium sulfate fractionation, protamine sulfate precipitation, sephadex G-200 gel filtration, and DEAE-sephadex A-50 ion exchange chromatography. The purified α-galactosidase was found tobbe homogeneous by SDSpolyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The molecular weight of this enzyme, estimated by sepadex G-200 gel filtration, was about 301,995. The optimum conditions for the enzyme reaction was pH 6.5 to 7.0 at 37℃. The purified enzyme was stable at 45℃ or below and in buffer at pH 6 to 7.0. The activity was inhibited by mercury, copper ion, and p-chloromercuribenzoic acid. The kinetics of this enzyme, with p-nitrophenyl-α-D-galactoside as substrate, was determined : K_m was about 0.069mM and V_mas was 347.22 μmoles/min mg protein.
