Intramural hematoma of the esophagus is a rare condition that can be spontaneous or secondary to trauma, toxic ingestion, or intervention. If it is the spontaneous type, it usually presents initially with epigastric pain, hematemesis or dysphagia. We present a case of intramural hematoma of the esophagus mimicking acute coronary syndrome. A 63-year-old man presented with severe acute chest pain. He has four coronary stents that were inserted five years ago, from a different hospital, and is on dual antiplatelet agents. Coronary angiography was performed immediately under the suspicion of acute coronary syndrome, and we found that there was no obvious clogging of the coronary arteries. Next, chest computed tomography was performed due to suspected aortic dissection, and the result was also negative. Four days later, endoscopy was performed and intramural hematoma covered with large ulcers was diagnosed. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2017;69:239-242)
GC-ECD를 이용한 농산물 중 Diethatyl-ethyl, Dimethachlor, Dimethenamid, Propachlor 및 Propisochlor의 동시 분석

본 연구는 농산물에 대한 diethatyl-ethyl 및 dimethachlor, dimethenamid, propachlor, propisochlor의 안전관리를 위한 시험법을 검중하고자 실시하였다. 검체를 아세톤으로 추출하고 흡인 여과한 다음, 증류수, 포화식염수,디클로로메탄으로 액-액분배하여 디클로로메탄 층을 탈수시키고 감압농축하였다. 잔류물을 아세토니트릴 포화 헥산에 재용해하고 헥산 포화 아세토니트릴로 액-액분배 한 후, 아세토니트릴 층을 감압능축하고 디클로로메탄에 재용해하여 실리카겔로 정제한 다음, GC-ECD로 분석하였다. Diethatyl-ethyl은 0.02~1.0 mg/kg, propachlor는 0.05~2.0 mg/kg, dimethachlor 등 3성분은 0.02-2.5 mg/kg의 범위에서 6 농도로 검량선을 작성하였고 검량선의 상관계수(R2)는 0.99 이상으로 높은 직선성을 나타내었다. 각 성분의 정량한계는 diethatyl-ethyl 및 propisochlor 0.004 mg/kg, dimethachlor 및 dimethenamid 0.01 mg/kg, propachlor 0.008 mg/kg이었으며, 회수율 검증을 정량한계, 정량한계의 10배, 50배의 3 수준에서 수행한 결과, 평균 회수율은 diethatyl-ethyl 79.8~115.8%, dimethachlor 82.4~101.0, dimethenamid 80.9~97.5%, propachlor 81.8-107.3%, propisochlor 77.8~98.2%로 나타났다. 실험실간의 교차검증 결과, 5성분의 평균 회수율은 83.2~105.0%였으며 상대표준편차는 20.8% 미만인 것을 확인하였다.
유산균 발효 다시마(Saccharina japonica) 분말 첨가에 의한 고추장의 식품학적 품질 특성 변화

This study was conducted to investigate changes in the quality of Gochujang following the addition of sea tangle Saccharina japonica powder fermented by lactic acid bacteria (FSP). Gochujang was prepared with or without FSP and fermented at 16℃ for 24 weeks, as detailed in a previous study. No significant physicochemical changes in moisture, crude protein content, pH, salinity and amino nitrogen content were observed among the varieties of Gochujangs evaluated (Commercial Gochujang, Gallic-Gochujang and FSP-Gochujang). In addition, we detected no significant differences in microbiological profiles. However, following addition of FSP to Gochujang, the color was affected and antioxidant properties were enhanced. The DPPH radical scavenging activity of FSP-Gochujang increased by 58.8% and 24.8% compared with Commercial Gochujang and Gallic-Gochujang, respectively. Furthermore, analysis of the free amino acid content revealed higher levels of γ-aminobutyric acid (100.9 mg/100 g), a biofunctional ingredient, in FSP-Gochujang. Thus, these results suggest the potential for development of a traditional Korean fermented food with enhanced antioxidant activity and γ-aminobutyric acid content using FSP.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the associated brain parenchymal abnormalities of developmental venous anomalies (DVA) with susceptibility-weighted image (SWI). Materials and Methods: Between January 2012 and June 2013, 2356 patients underwent brain MR examinations with contrast enhancement. We retrospectively reviewed their MR examinations and data were collected as per the following criteria: incidence, locations, and associated parenchymal signal abnormalities of DVAs on T2-weighted image, fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR), and SWI. Contrast enhanced T1-weighted image was used to diagnose DVA. Results: Of the 2356 patients examined, 57 DVAs were detected in 57 patients (2.4%); 47 (82.4%) were in either lobe of the supratentorial brain, 9 (15.7%) were in the cerebellum, and 1 (1.7%) was in the pons. Of the 57 DVAs identified, 20 (35.1%) had associated parenchymal abnormalities in the drainage area. Among the 20 DVAs which had associated parenchymal abnormalities, 13 showed hemorrhagic foci on SWI, and 7 demonstrated only increased parenchymal signal abnormalities on T2-weighted and FLAIR images. In 5 of the 13 patients (38.5%) who had hemorrhagic foci, the hemorrhagic lesions were demonstrated only on SWI. Conclusion: The overall incidence of DVAs was 2.4%. Parenchymal abnormalities were associated with DVAs in 35.1% of the cases. On SWI, hemorrhage was detected in 22.8% of DVAs. Thus, we conclude that SWI might give a potential for understanding of the pathophysiology of parenchymal abnormalities in DVAs.
EFFECTS OF IRRADIATION ON THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF ALLOY 690 AT LOW NEUTRON FLUENCE

Alloy 690 has been selected as a steam generator tubing material for SMART owing to a near immunity to primary water stress corrosion cracking. The steam generators of SMART are faced with a neutron flux due to the integrated arrangement inside a reactor vessel, and thus it is important to know the irradiation effects of the thermal conductivity of Alloy 690. Alloy 690 was irradiated at HANARO to fluences of (0.7-28) ${\times}10^{19}n/cm^2$ (E>0.1MeV) at $250^{\circ}C$, and its thermal conductivity was measured using the laser-flash equipment in the IMEF. The thermal conductivity of Alloy 690 was dependent on temperature, and it was a good fit to the Smith-Palmer equation, which modified the Wiedemann-Franz law. The irradiation at $250^{\circ}C$ did not degrade the thermal conductivity of Alloy 690, and even showed a small increase (1%) at fluences of (0.7~28) ${\times}10^{19}n/cm^2$ (E>0.1MeV).
Anchoring energy of nematic liquid crystals on zinc oxide film

The potential of a ZnO transparent electrode as a liquid crystal (LC) alignment layer was assessed by measuring the surface LC anchoring strength. This can be determined by observing the direction of the William domain, which is one of the many patterns generated in liquid crystal electroconvection. The surface of the ZnO layer is modulated by a conventional rubbing method with a rubbing machine and ion beam method to align the LCs and thus, allow the ZnO layer to act as an LC alignment layer. To increase the surface anchoring energy of the ZnO film further, a linear ion-beam irradiation was carried out after rubbing the ZnO layer for the synergistic effect of the alignment techniques, after which the azimuthal surface anchoring energy of the ZnO layer was about 2.23 × 10–5 J/m2, which is comparable to the conventional alignment layer, polyimide, used at currently LC displays.

The Korean Intermittent Exotropia Multicenter Study (KIEMS), which was initiated by the Korean Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, is a collaborative multicenter study on intermittent exotropia in Korea. The KIEMS was designed to provide comprehensive information, including subjective and objective findings of intermittent exotropia in a large study population. A total of 65 strabismus specialists in 53 institutions contributed to this study, which, to date, is one of the largest clinical studies on intermittent exotropia. In this article, we provide a detailed methodology of the KIEMS to help future investigations that may use the KIEMS data.
