Citizen Awareness of the Smart City: A Study of Khon Kaen, Thailand
KAMNUANSILPA, Peerasit,LAOCHANKHAM, Sirisak,CRUMPTON, Charles David,DRAPER, John Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.7
Using primary data collected through semi-structured interviews conducted during February 2019, this article examines citizen's awareness and knowledge of Khon Kaen Smart City (KKSC) among the residents of five contiguous municipalities within Khon Kaen Province, Thailand. A self-weighted sample of 420 respondents was selected through a two-stage, 30-cluster sampling process. In the first stage, a sample of 30 artificial clusters of 100 households each was selected. In the second, 14 households were randomly selected from each of these clusters. The head of household or, if unavailable, a resident aged 18 or over was interviewed. The study applies the "citizens as democratic participants" dimension of Simonofski et al.'s (2019) evaluative framework. Results found that, because of ineffective citizen engagement, the levels of awareness and knowledge about KKSC were low. However, multiple logistic regression found that, despite the low levels of awareness and knowledge, education and income could establish an independent effect on awareness of KKSC. Those who completed post-secondary school were more aware of KKSC than those who finished only secondary or primary education. Similarly, the analysis of data clearly indicated that educational attainment, solely and independently from all other socio-economic and demographic variables, could explain the positive effect of education on knowledge about KKSC.
Air Cargo beyond Trade Barriers in Africa
( Bianka Dettmer ),( Andreas Freytag ),( Peter Draper ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 2014 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.29 No.1
We develop a methodology based on two important criteria-sensitivity in delivery time and value-to-weight ratio-to classify air cargo products. The classification is applied to evaluate the trade integration in Southern Africa since air cargo is a valuable option to overcome trade barriers associated with poor land transport infrastructure and corruption. We find that South Africa`s exports to industrialized countries consist of precious products such as diamonds and gold. These products tend to be transported in the hand baggage of a security personnel as they leave the loading weight of an average airplane almost unaffected. When correcting African trade for these ‘invisible outliers’ in the loading freight, we find that African trade integration including Southern Africa is based upon a comparatively higher share of air cargo relevant products than Southern Africa`s trade with industrialized and emerging economies. A more liberal market for air cargo services can reduce transport costs and will allow the continent to integrate even further.
The effect of chiropractic manipulation and mobilization on the auditory acuity
Jin Ok Choi,Han Suk Jung,Joo Hyun Ham,Sung Eun Kim,Naoko Tanimoto,Barry Cecil Draper 한국운동재활학회 2014 한국운동재활학회 학술대회 Vol.2014 No.10
Hearing loss occur when there is a problem with one or more parts of the ear or ears. This study investigated the effects of chiropractic manipulative therapy and mobilization on auditory of the young. Twenty and seven subjects with average age 20.9 years (18 males and 9 females) participated in this study. Subjects were divided into two groups: chiropractic manipulation-treated group (n=17) and mobilization-treated group (n=10). The Automated Micro Audiometer-Pure Tone Audiometry (Earlogic, Seoul, Korea) was used for auditory measurement at pre- and post-times. At pre-time, all subjects showed the normal hearing at most of hearing frequency in both ears, except 250Hz. Both groups showed the mild hearing loss of the left ear at 250Hz before treatments of chiropractic manipulation and mobilization. However, chiropractic manipulation and mobilization significantly reduced the decibels of hearing loss (dB HL) to the normal hearing level. In the present study, chiropractic manipulation and mobilization reduced the dB HL at all range of hearing frequency in the both ears of the young. These results support that chiropractic manipulation and mobilization may have the beneficial effects of auditory acuity of the young.
The correlation between plantar pressure and low back pain evaluation by digital foot scanner
Hye Rin Cho,Han Suk Jung,Joo Hyun Ham,Sung Eun Kim,Naoko Tanimoto,Barry Cecil Draper 한국운동재활학회 2014 한국운동재활학회 학술대회 Vol.2014 No.10
The pathology of low back pain (LBP) is anatomically and functionally related with the postural balance. Thus, it is surmised that foot plantar pressure is important in such balance. In this study, we investigated the correlation between plantar pressure and LBP. A total 125 college students (50 male students and 75 female students, aged from 20 to 29) participated in this study. Based on pain scale, groups were divided into two: control group (n=27) and LBP group (n=98). The foot plantar pressures were measured by two examiners. For measurements of the left foot, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC 3,1) was0.75,and ICC3,1 for the right was0.75. The Pearson coefficient between the pain scale and the index values of plantar foot pressure was 0.469 (p<0.000). In the present study, the reliability of two examiners using AssociateⓇ Platinum V7+ Digital foot scanner was fairly good. The significant correlation was found between pain scale and index values of plantar foot pressure. These results suggested that the measurement of plantar pressure using AssociateⓇ Platinum V7+ Digital foot scanner might be a helpful method for examining LBP.
