Reciprocal dumping occurs in intraindustry trade (IIT) when domestic and foreign firms that have market (monopoly) power effect cross hauling through international price discrimination. Data relating to 255 U.S. 4-digit SIC manufacturing industries were used to test the existence of the necessary (but not sufficient) characteristics for reciprocal dumping of (1) intraindustry trade, (2) monopolistic firms, and (3) high profits. These characteristics were found not to exist among U.S. manufacturing industries. [F12]

Penetration of a fragment-like projectile into Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) was simulated using finite element (FE) and particle formulations. Extreme deformations and failure of the material during the penetration event were modeled with multiple approaches to evaluate how well each represented the actual physics of the penetration process and compared to experimental data. A Fragment Simulating Projectile (FSP) normally impacting a flat, square plate of FRC was modeled using two target thicknesses to examine the different levels of damage. The thinner plate was perforated by the FSP, while the thicker plate captured the FSP and only allowed penetration part way through the thickness. Full three dimensional simulations were performed, so the capability was present for non-symmetric FRC behavior and possible projectile rotation in all directions. These calculations assessed the ability of the finite element and particle formulations to calculate penetration response while assessing criteria necessary to perform the computations. The numerical code EPIC contains the element and particle formulations, as well as the explicit methodology and constitutive models, needed to perform these simulations.
Possibility-Seeking Experiments: Testing Syntactic Hypotheses on the Level of the Individual

This paper explores an emerging theoretical and experimental approach to bridging the gap between generative syntactic theories and the judgements of individuals. Crucially, there are times when generative theories seem to make absolute predictions about how a given sentence should be judged, yet there is judgement variation among individuals. To overcome this challenge, this new approach adapts generative hypotheses in order to predict a range of possible judgement patterns across sentences, allowing the incorporation of judgement variation into predictions while still maintaining definite testability. To exemplify this approach, a demonstration experiment examining bound variable anaphora (BVA) is presented, addressing the longstanding debate as to whether BVA can be used as an effective probe for c-command relations. Using the “possibility-seeking” methodology, BVA is shown to obey clear c-command-based constraints. Using said constraints, BVA can be used to test crucial theories in generative syntax with a powerful new level of precision.

Impact of Teamwork on Employee Engagement in Primary and Secondary schools: The Nigerian Experience

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of Teamwork on Engagement among employees of private primary and secondary schools in Plateau State, Nigeria using the dimensions of Teamwork, which are Communication, Leadership, Team Structure, Situation Monitoring, and Mutual Support on Employee Engagement. Research design, data, and methodology - To analyze the relationship among the variables, the study adopted the descriptive and explanatory research design, and a cross-sectional survey method using a survey questionnaire containing 29 items, with a 5-point Likert scale. The samples of 274 employees (both academic and non-academic) were selected using a simple random probability sampling technique. Multiple Regression was used to analyze data with the aid of the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS version 23.0). Result - This shows that Communication, Leadership, and Situation Monitoring have a positive and significant relationship on Employee Engagement, while Team Structure and Mutual Support show a negative direction but still maintained a significant relationship. Conclusion - The management of private primary and secondary schools should pay attention to Communication, Leadership, Team Structure, Situation Monitoring, and Mutual Support among their employees to promote Employee Engagement in the workplace. It also recommends that future studies should be carried out in other sectors.
Circadian Polymorphisms in Night Owls, in Bipolars, and in Non-24-Hour Sleep Cycles

People called night owls habitually have late bedtimes and late times of arising, sometimes suffering a heritable circadian disturbance called delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS). Those with DSPS, those with more severe progressively-late non-24-hour sleep-wake cycles, and those with bipolar disorder may share genetic tendencies for slowed or delayed circadian cycles. We searched for polymorphisms associated with DSPS in a case-control study of DSPS research participants and a separate study of Sleep Center patients undergoing polysomnography. In 45 participants, we resequenced portions of 15 circadian genes to identify unknown polymorphisms that might be associated with DSPS, non-24-hour rhythms, or bipolar comorbidities. We then genotyped single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in both larger samples, using Illumina Golden Gate assays. Associations of SNPs with the DSPS phenotype and with the morningness-eveningness parametric phenotype were computed for both samples, then combined for meta-analyses. Delayed sleep and “eveningness” were inversely associated with loci in circadian genes NFIL3 (rs2482705) and RORC (rs3828057). A group of haplotypes overlapping BHLHE40 was associated with non-24-hour sleep-wake cycles, and less robustly, with delayed sleep and bipolar disorder (e.g., rs34883305, rs34870629, rs74439275, and rs3750275 were associated with n=37, p=4.58E-09, Bonferroni p=2.95E-06). Bright light and melatonin can palliate circadian disorders, and genetics may clarify the underlying circadian photoperiodic mechanisms. After further replication and identification of the causal polymorphisms, these findings may point to future treatments for DSPS, non-24-hour rhythms, and possibly bipolar disorder or depression.
Mini-Photoselective Vaporization of the Prostate for Difficult Intermittent Self-Catheterization

Bladder neck incision or transurethral incision of the prostate is a procedure described for men with bladder outflow obstruction associated with a gland size of less than 30 ml. We report a case of a man with detrusor dysfunction who was having increasing difficulty performing clean intermittent self-catheterization of the bladder. The successful use of the 120 W lithium triborate laser to perform a “mini-photoselective vaporization of the prostate” (“mini-PVP”) enabled discharge of the patient on the same day as well as resolution of the patient’s difficulties in performing self-catheterization. Mini-PVP has proven to be a simple and effective approach to resolution of a prostate configuration impeding the process of clean intermittent self-catheterization.
