Objective : Between 1991 and 1993 data were collected to evaluate risk factors for endometriosis. Design : A case-control study was conducted on 54 cases with laparotomically confirmed pelvic endometriosis consecutively admitted to CNUH. The control group consisted of 60 women admitted to hospital for benigh gynecologic disease. Results : No relation emerged with marital status, age at marriage, marital life, level of education, socio-economic status, age at menarche, menstrual regularity, number of spontaneous abortion, duration after last delivery, height and weight. But compared to control group, longer menstrual period, larger menstrual amount, severe menstrual pain, less number of parity, and less number of induced abortion signifcantly increased risk of endometriosis Conclusions : This study showed that frequent menstrual cycles and long period of menstruation with frequent and large amount of retrograde menstrual flow increased the risk of endometriosis.

저자들은 쇠고기에 의해 매개된 것으로 추정되는 출혈성 장염 및 이에 합병된 용혈성 요독 증후군 환자 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. We report case of hemolytic uremic syndrome(HUS) associated with hemorrhagic colitis. A 35-year0old man was admitted to a local hospital because of abdominal pain and watery diarrhea which had developed about 6 hours after taking roast beef. He was treated with intravenous fluids and antibiotics, but watery diarrhea changed to bloody in nature from the next day. He was transferred to our hospital due to progressive ascites and jaundice on his 8th day of illness. Examinations revealed ascites, jaundice, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia and uremia. Sorbitol-negative Escherichia coli was isolated from his stool, which proved as Shiga-like toxin-negative E. coli, serotype O25. His conditions improved markedly after three times of plasmapheresis and intravenous fluids therapy, and the organism was not isolated from the follow-up stool culture.

The hardening and damage in tensile and compressive deformation of 7XXX Al matrix composites were analyzed. The effect of the damage in the particles and/or at the interfaces on the stress-strain response is different in tension and in compression. In tension, cracks mostly perpendicular to the stress axis in ceramic particles definitely lower the loading capacity and then the overall hardening rate. With increasing tensile strain there may be cracking of additional particles and the localized strain developed at the tip of cracks and in the matrix linking the cracked particles. Therefore tensile deformation behavior of Al matrix composite is more strongly influenced by the size of reinforced ceramic particle than the matrix properties. On the other hand in compression cracks mostly parallel to the stress axis in ceramic particles are not expected to lower the loading capacity and have little influence on the hardening rate. The growth and the link-up of damage in compression are difficult because of the compressive stress near crack tips. Therefore, the flow stress is not greatly influenced by the frequency of particle cracks and it is strongly dependent on the matrix properties.

Bezafibrate is a lipid-lowering agent and one of the fibric acid derivatives. It is relatively safe and well tolerated and adverse reactions to bezafibrate have largely been restricted to gastrointestinal distrubances. But a few cases of rhabdomyolysis after bezafibrate administration have been reported and recently we experienced bezafibrate-induced rhabdomyolysis in patients with chronic renal failure. So we report this case with the bone scan finding and the literature review. We believe that this is the first case report of bezafibrate-induced rhabdomyolysis in Korea. The present study investigated whether organotypic spheroids derived from human fetal brain tissue, cultured at agarose-overlay media may serve as an optimal in vitro model for multidisciplinary studies in human neurobiology, particularly in the fields of tumor invasiveness and its biochemical mechanism, using light microscopy. electron microscopy and immunohistochemical staining Eight fetal brain tissues of 8-9 weeks of gestation were minced and explanted into agarose-coated culture wells. After three to five days these human fetal brain tissue fragments emerged as spheroids and could be maintained as organotypic spheroids for up to seven weeks. Light and electron microscopic studies of spheroids demonstrated that most cells were poorly differentiated and there were no definite mature neurons or glial cells after enough culture time, but some cells showed certain evidence suggestive of differentiation to neurons or glial cells immunohistochemical staining for glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP) and neuron specific enolase(NSE) demonstrated that NSE-positive cells were oval or spherical cells containing abundant cytoplasm and GFAP-positive cells were fibrillary cytoplasma-containing cells which showed some evidence suggestive of differentiation to glial cells by light microscopy. In future, adding some modifications in culture, this organotypic spheroids derived from the human fetal brain may serve as an optimal in vitro model for neurobiology, especially in the field of studies on tumor invasiveness through co-culture with microtumor spheroids.

The purpose of this study is to find out the influence on the result of quality effectiveness management by HACCP system application conducted by the persons in the food service industry. The outcome and suggestions obtained from the result of this analysis are as follows; it shows that HACCP system has a good impact on the quality effectiveness after it was introduced as the level of employee`s awareness is improved, the level of product differentiation is improved. and a market share, and also reduced hygienic accident rate dramatically. the study also showed complicated inter-relationship between 3 events. The practice rate increases after HACCP system introduction, then quality effectiveness is influenced and such outcomes results in the management achievements. Through the result of this study, we understand applying HACCP system into the food service industry has a good impact on management achievements as well as quality effectiveness.
