        The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of muscular function, aerobic and anaerobic power in elite gymnasts. The subjects of this study were consisted of 9 male high school and university gymnasts as non- elite group, and 9 male high school and university gymnasts as elite group. Treadmill, gas analyzer, bicycle ergometer and cybex- II were used measure the aerobic power, anaerobic power and isokinetic muscle function respectively. The main findings of this study were as following 1.Muscular function 1)Maximal strengths at knee joint, elbow joint and wrist joint were not different between groups. At flexion at wrist joint, those of elite gymnast groups was 20% as high as those of non-elite gymnast group, but the difference between groups was insignificant. Maximal strength ratio at knee joint and wrist joint in elite gymnast group were significantly higher than those in non-elite gymnast group (p<0.05 and p<0.01, respectively). But that at elbow joint did not show difference between two groups. 2)Power during flexion and extension at knee joint, and power during pronation and supination at elbow joint were not different between two groups. In elite gymnast group, power during flexion at wrist joint was significantly higher than that in non-elite gymnast group( p <0.05). At knee joint power ratio at test speed of 180˚/sec was 69.2% in elite gymnast group, and was 65.3% in non-elite gymnast group, difference of power ratio between groups was significant(p<0.05). 3)Muscular endurance at wrist point in elite gymnast group was significantly higher than that in non- elite gymnast group both flexion and extension(p<0.001 and p<0.01, respectively). 4)Work during flexion and extension at knee joint did not show significant difference between groups. And work during pronation and supination at elbow joint did not show significat difference between groups. But, at wrist joint, work during extention in elite gymnast group was significantly higher than that in non-elite gymnast grou(p< 0.05). Work during flexion in elite gymnast group show significantly higher than that in non- elite gymnast grou(p <0.05). 2.Aerobic power VO2max did not show significant difference between elite gymnast group and non- elite gymnast group(57.1±1.5㎖/kg/min and 57.3±2.0㎖/kg/min, respectively). VEmax of elite gymnast group was 109.81/min and VEmax of non-elite gymnast group was 116.32±12.8l/min, but the difference between groups was not significant. 3.Anaerobic power The anaerobic peak power for 30- s wingate test did not show significant difference between elite gymnast group and non- elite gymnast group. And mean powers were not difference between groups. After wingate test, blood lactate concentration in elite gymnast group was higher than blood lactate concentration in non- elite gymnast group, but the difference between groups was nonsignificant. As the result of this study, we concluded that the elite gymnasts are not different from the non-elite gymnasts in aerobic power and muscular functions at knee joint and elbow joint, but muscular functions at wrist joints in elite gymnasts are more prominant than those non- elite gymnast.

      • p-Aminosalicylate 유도체의 향미생물작용

        The 15 synthesized p-aminosalicylate esters derivatives were evaluated for their antimicrobial activities, in vitro, against Mycobacterium phlei (CACC 75432), Staphylococcus aureus (CHA 78311), Bacillus subtilis (CAUCC 310) and Escherichia coli (P32). Bivalent ligand derivatives (1-6) showed weaker activities than their parent p-aminosalicylate(PAS) in vitro. But some of thiouera derivatives (8 and 10) gave stronger activities against Mycobacterium phlei and Staphylococcus aureus than their parent p-aminosalicylate.

        Acute torsion of the ovary and ovarian mass is a recognized surgical emergency, but rarely has the diagnosis been made preoperatively on the basis of imaging studies. The sonographic findings in 14 cases of surgically proven torsion of the ovary and ovarian mass are described. Mostly cystic ovarian mass, engorged vessel, dilated uterine tube, beak-like echo(torsion site), smooth mass wall thickening an free-fluid collection in cul-de-sac are described. More significant in terms of specificity were the demonstration in 6 cases(42.9%) of the smooth mass wall thickening and in 8 cases(57.1%) of a free fluid in the cul-de-sac. We report the sonographic findings of ovary and ovarian mass torsion that may suggest the preoperative diagnosis of this condition.

        Phenotypic characterization of Hanwoo (native Korean cattle) cloned from somatic cells of a single adult

        We investigated phenotypic differences in Hanwoo cattle cloned from somatic cells of a single adult. Ten genetically identical Hanwoo were generated by somatic cell nuclear transfer from a single adult. Weights at birth, growing pattern, horn and noseprint patterns were characterized to investigate phenotypic differences. The weights of clones at 6 and 12 months were slightly heavier than that of the donor. A horn pattern analysis revealed that seven clones had exactly the same horn pattern as the donor cow, whereas three were different. Although similarities such as general appearance can often be used to identify individual cloned animals, no study has characterized noseprint patterns for this end. A noseprint pattern analysis of all surviving clones showed that all eight animals had distinct noseprints. Four were similar to the donor, and the remaining four had more secondary-like characteristics. [BMB reports 2012; 45(1): 38-43]

        유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경에서의 최근 ICT의 급속한 발전으로 관련 산업은 놀라운 성장을 하고 있다. 따라서 의료 정보산업 관련 디지털 병원 시스템에서도 진료서비스 환경도 여러 형태의 모바일 장비 및 유선의 디바이스를 통한 시간, 장소에 관계없이 차별화된 진료 서비스가 가능하다. 그러므로 정보통신과 접목한 의료 정보 관련 솔루션의 도입은 병원 네트워크의 통합시스템이 주류를 형성하며 시너지 효과를 나타내고 있다. 현재 병원의 PACS 솔루션은 의료영상저장전송시스템으로 많은 병원들이 디지털 환경의 정보화를 위한 시스템으로 채택하고 있으며, 기존의 시스템을 무선통신, 인터넷 등의 영역으로 통합하여 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경의 개념이 형성되고 있다. 이런 시스템의 통합은 모바일 병원의 빠른 성장을 주도하고 있으며, 각각의 네트워크 및 원격 네트워크에 있는 진료 지원파트 및 임상의들은 획기적인 진료의 업무 프로세스를 요구하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서 설계하는 DICOM 엔진은 기존의 PACS DB 서버의 구조를 변경하지 않고 상호운용이 가능하며, 각각의 사용자의 요구에 응답하는 유?무선 통합의 진료지원 시스템이다. In the ubiquitous computing environments, ICT industries of current society are developed in enormous growth. Medicine or patients with mobile devices can access at any time, any place. The medical procedures at the patient bedside are out of the scope of current systems, which means that patient record and image data access during the medical visit or the execution, recording and confirmation of the medicine prescriptions, still do not enjoy computerized support. Today, the exchange of medical images and clinical information is well defined by DICOM and HL7 standards. The DICOM independent terminal equipment image access system was developed in which a DICOM Engine acts as the gateway between a PACS DB and user's terminal. Implementation system is compatible with most currently available Integration system models. This paper presents a software technology where the medical and nursing staff will be equipped with any device connected by wire and wireless to a central server that provides access to the electronic patient records and that will actively inform about tasks pending distribution. The prototype described in this article implements a medical images and structured reports server that makes the search and recovery of data stored in the DICOM standard possible.

        Antioxidative and antiproliferative activities of ethanol extracts from pigmented giant embryo rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Keunnunjami) before and after germination

        BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Oxidative stress is a major cause of cancer. This study investigated the effects of the ethanol extracts from germinated and non-germinated Keunnunjami rice, a blackish-purple pigmented cultivar with giant embryo, on selected human cancer cell lines and on the antioxidant defense system of mice fed with a high-fat diet. MATERIALS/METHODS: High fat-fed mice were orally administered with either distilled water (HF) or extracts (0.25%, w/w) from brown (B), germinated brown (GB), Keunnunjami (K), and germinated Keunnunjami (GK) rice. RESULTS: In comparison with the brown rice extract, Keunnunjami extract showed higher anticancer effect against cervical and gastric cell lines but lower anticancer activity on liver and colon cancer cells. Mice from the HF group showed significantly higher lipid peroxidation and lower antioxidant enzyme activities than the control group. However, the oxidative stress induced by high-fat diet markedly decreased in B, GB, K, and GK groups as compared with the HF group. CONCLUSIONS: Germination may be an effective method for improving the anticancer and antioxidative properties of Keunnunjami rice and extracts from germinated Keunnunjami rice may serve as a therapeutic agent against cervical and gastric cancers and oxidative damage.

        Retrocrural Lymph Node Metastasis Disclosed by $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT: A Predictor of Supra-diaphragmatic Spread in Ovarian Cancer

        Purpose : Retrocrural lymph nodes (RCLNs) communicate with retroperitoneal and posterior mediastinal LNs. It is possible that, when RCLNs are involved, supra-diaphragmatic extension will occur in abdomino-pelvic cancers. The authors investigated performance of $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT to diagnose RCLN metastasis and whether RCLN metastases were associated with supra-diaphragmatic lymphatic metastases of ovarian cancer. Materials and methods : Sixty-seven patients with stage IV ovarian cancer who had undergone $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT were included in this retrospective study. Diagnostic performance of $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT for RCLN metastasis was evaluated. Patients were divided into two groups by presence or absence of supra-diaphragmatic LN metastasis. The prevalences of RCLN metastasis between the two groups were compared and the odds ratio was calculated. Results : Sensitivity and specificity of $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT for RCLN metastasis were 96.3 and 100%, respectively. Of the 67 study subjects, 27 patients had RCLN metastases (40.3%). Fifty patients had supra-diaphragmatic LN metastases. $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT showed 26 RCLN metastases in patients with supra-diaphragmatic LN metastases (54.5%), and only 1 in patients without supra-diaphragmatic LN metastasis (5.9%), and the difference between two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). The odds ratio that patients with RCLN metastasis would have supra-diaphragmatic LN metastasis was 17.3 (95% confidence interval=2.1 to 140.9, P=0.008). Conclusion : Performance of $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT to diagnose RCLN metastasis was excellent. RCLN metastasis revealed by $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT was strongly associated with supra-diaphragmatic LN spread of ovarian cancer. Thus, RCLN metastasis could be used as a predictor of supra-diaphragmatic lymphatic metastasis of ovarian cancer.
