Psychiatric Comorbidities of Hazardous Alcohol Drinking in College Students

Background: Alcohol drinking among college students is socially permissible in Korea. However, this population’s tendency to consume alcohol excessively results in many alcohol-related problems, including psychiatric problems. This study aimed to identify the sociodemographic characteristics and psychiatric comorbidities associated with hazardous alcohol drinking among college students. Methods: In total, 2,571 college students participated in the study. Data were collected using the Korean version of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT-K), the Mood Disorder Questionnaire, the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, a modified Korean version of the 16-item Prodromal Questionnaire, the Adult Attention- Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale-Version 1.1, and a stress-coping scale. Logistic regression analysis was performed on variables significantly correlated with hazardous alcohol drinking. Results: In total, 633 students were grouped into the hazardous alcohol drinking group (AUDIT-K, ≥12). The associated variables were age (odds ratio [OR], 0.95; p<0.05), smoking (OR, 4.00; p<0.001), bipolar disorder (OR, 2.45; p<0.05), depressive disorder (OR, 1.35; p<0.05), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD; OR, 1.44; p<0.05), and problem-focused stress coping (OR, 0.97; p<0.05). Conclusion: In this study, hazardous alcohol drinking was associated with smoking, mood disorders, and ADHD. We suggest that alcohol use among college students be carefully monitored and managed in terms of its psychiatric comorbidities.

Fatigue life prediction of a lower control arm is carried out with finite element methods. The lower control arm has heat effected zone induced from a seam welding process. The residual stresses generated in the zone are measured by a x-ray stress analyzing equipment. Since the residual stress has much effects on the fatigue life, the residual stress is considered in the fatigue life prediction process as mean stresses with relaxation effect. The heat transfer and a thermal elasto-plastic analyses are performed and verified with measured residual stress value. The fatigue life predicted by simulations are compared with test results.

A plethora of environmental stresses can reduce the early seedling growth leading to decrease in crop productivity. Priming of seeds with beneficial endophytic bacterial strains to induce early germi- nation and enhance their growth is a sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practice. Hence, this study was conducted to evaluate the enhancement of seedling growth in three different crops, namely onion, green onion and zucchini under gnotobiotic conditions, mediated by bacterial inoculation. Two bacterial strains, Pseudomonas frederiksbergensis OS261 and Pseudomonas vancouverensis OB155 were used in this study. Both bacterial strains are characterized as psychrotolerant and have ACC deaminase activity and IAA production ability. The P. frederiksbergensis OS261 inoculation had shown significant increase in root length, shoot length, and total dry weight of onion and green onion seedlings. The inoculation didn’t show any significant effect on the growth parameters of zucchini plants suggesting the effective- ness of bacterial strains in particular plant species. On the other hand, the seedling vigor index was only recorded to be significantly higher in OS261 inoculated onion seedlings. Collectively, this study suggests that higher IAA production by bacterial strains is a determinant trait in enhancing seedling growth under normal environmental conditions and there can be bacteria-plant specificity for effective enhancement of plant growth and productivity.

Hydraulic Performance of Staggered Mini Channel Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger

Hydraulic performance of a newly developed type PCHE (Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger) which has partially-opened mini channel was evaluated. Experiment was conducted by varying the Reynolds number of water flow in the range of 100 < Re < 800. Three-dimensional numerical simulation results are presented which is conducted by using commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software FLUENT. The validity of numerical result through comparison with the obtained experimental data is presented. The result of CFD simulation shows fairly good agreement with the experimental result by obtaining average error 21%. The friction factor correlation is presented from experimental result.

본 논문은 체액 검사를 위한 자동화 시스템을 제안한다. 체액 검사는 혈액 외에 체내의 많은 종류의 체액에 대하여 검사를 진행하고 혈액질환을 포함한 여러 질환의 진단에 중요한 정보를 제공한다. 보편적인 검사로는 수동적인 현미경 검사를 의미하며, 본 연구에서 이를 자동화 시스템으로 개발한다. 자동화 시스템은 크게 Hardware부, Software부로 구성되어 있다. Hardware는 정밀 스테이지와 광학 시스템이 장착되어 있는 UIMD의 PBIA-12A를 사용하여 개발하였고, Software는 전체 슬라이드 스캐닝, 세포 촬상 경로 계획, 세포 후보군 검출, 세포 감별 부분으로 구성한다. 결과적으로 체액 검사 자동화 시스템을 개발함으로써 기존 매뉴얼 검사에 비해 검사 시간단축, 영상 데이터 수집 객관적인 결과 보고 등의 효과를 확인하였다.

혈액 분석 기기는 백혈구, 적혈구, 혈소판, 그리고 골수를 영상으로 분류하는 체외 진단기기이다. 특히 백혈구 감별에서는 백혈구 영상을 획득하기 위해 저 배율에서 위치 검출이 진행되고 고배율에서 정확한 영상 획득을 하여야 한다. 본 논문에서는 저배율 영상에서 검출된 백혈구들의 Clustering(군집화) 및 Path Planning(경로 계획) 하는 방법을 제안한다. Node Map, Masking 기반의 Clustering 방법과 Square Region Divide 기반의 Path Planning 방법으로 카메라 FOV(Field Of View)내에, 많은 백혈구가 포함되고 최적 경로로 이동한다. 성능 검증은 이동거리, 계산 시간, Clustering 수를 기준으로 평가하였으며, 각각 K-Means Algorithm, DFS Path Planning 방법과 비교하여 측정하였다. 결론적으로 Cluster 개수, 계산 시간, 이동 거리 측면에서 개선되었음을 확인하였다.
