        김치의 숙성중 조직감과 당분의 변화를 검토하기 위하여, 원료배추의 절단력시험을 실시한 결과, 3개의 큰 peak와 수개의 작은 peak들이 나타났으나 절임 및 숙성과장을 통하여 3개의 큰 peak의 골자기는 더욱 깊어지고 작은 peak들은 감소되어 가는 경향을 나타내었다. Relative force는 속성중기부터 완만한 감소현상을 보였으나 stress는 숙성 7일째 최소값을 나타낸 후 증가현상을 보여 이를 strain과 관련시켜 보면 숙성 7일째부터 연부현상과 관련이 있었다. 원료배추중의 당류로서는 ribose, fructose, glucose등이 검출되었으며, 절임 및 숙성과정 중에 arabinose, sucrose, 기타 unknown sugar등이 생성되었다. 김치숙성중 당 함량의 변화가 가장 큰 것은 fructose였으며 특히 최적가식범위인 숙성 6-7일(pH4.6-4.2)에서 함량이 4.1%에서 2.1%로 감소되었다. In cutting force tests, the raw cabbage had 3 big main peaks and several small peaks. Through the salting and fermenting procedures, the 3 big peak became more clear and the small peak gradually decreased. From the midterm (7days) of Kimchi fermentation, the relative force were slightly decreased but the stress and strain were increased. The Kimchi became to be soften by changes of stress and strain on the midterm of fermentation. Major sugars in raw cabbage were ribose, fructose, and glucose. During the salting and fermenting period of Kimchi, the contents of major sugars decreased, showing the greatest decrease of fructose from 4.1% to 2.1% at the optimum edible period(6-7day), while the other minor sugars such as arabinose, sucrose, and some unknown sugars increased.

        제주도 성산항내 부틸주석화합물의 분포와 생물체에 미치는 영향

        Butyltin compounds (BTs) in seawater, sediments and organisms (Thais clavigera, Liolophura japonica and Cellana nigrolineata), were quantitatively determined to evaluate their distribution inside Songsan Harbor of Cheju Island. In addition, imposex in T. clavigera was used to assess the effect on organisms of BTs. Analysis of the samples collected in seawater, sediments (March, June and August) and organisms (May, July and August) in 1998, confirmed the contamination of BTs in the aquatic environment inside Songsan Harbor. The main BTs species in seawater and sediments was monobutyltin (MBT), tributyltin (TBT), respectively, irrespective of survey time. In organisms, TBT and dibutyltin (DBT) were detected in similar concentrations for T. clavigera and L. japonica, but for C. nigrolineata, DBT concentration was the highest. TBT, the most toxic to aquatic organisms among BTs, was found at concentrations which were sufficient to have a serious effect on the sensitive organisms upon chronic exposure. The relatively high correlations (r>0.83) between BTs indicated that DBT and MBT were mainly degraded from TBT based on antifouling paint and their sources were negligible. The sedimentary organic matters did not have influence on the distribution of BTs in marine environment, and lipid content in T. clavigera did not show a correlation with TBT concentrations. The rate of occurrence of imposex in T. clavigera was 100 %, and the relative penis length index (RPLI) and the relative penis size index (RPSI) which represent the degree of imposex were 79.7%, 58.1%, respectively. Measurement of imposex in T. clavigera was expected to be a very helpful tool for preliminary survey of BTs prior to trace analysis of BTs.

      • Effect of Cyclosporine on the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal Axis in the Male Rats

        Cyclosporine is being extensively used as an immunosuppressive agent in organ transplantation. A few studies have demonstrated a decrease in testicular volume with decrease in serum to and testosterone on longterm treatment with cyclosporine at a dose of more than 15 mg/kg/day. It is unclear whether hypogonadism induced by cyclosporine is due to a direct effect of cyclosporine on gonads, some centrally mediated mechanism that inhibit the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, or both. This study was performed to elucidate the mechanism of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism induced male rats by cylcosporine using an animal model. Adult male rats (Sprague-Dawley), weighing 280 to 320 gm, were used for this experiments. Initially the rats were divided into 4 groups: control, cyclosporine treated intact rat, castrated rat, cyclosporine treated castrated rat. each group consists of ten rats. Cyclosporine was injected subcutaneously with dose of 20 mg/kg for 14 days. At day 15 of treatment, blood was withdrawn through external jugular vein under the ketamine anesthesia for measurement serum LH and FSH concentration in all groups and serum testosterone in control and cyclosporine treated intact rats. To assess the effect of cyclosporine on the pituitary response to LHRH and on the testicuar response to hCG, LHRH (300 ng/kg) stimulation test was performed in all groups and hCG (100 IU/kg) stimulation test was performed in contol and cyclosporine treated intact rats at day 15 of treatment of cyclosporine. Blood was collected 5 minutes before and 30 minutes after LHRH administration intravenously and 5 minutes before and 60 minutes after hCG administration intraveneously. Serum levels of LH, FSH and testosterone were measured with double antibody radioimmunoassay methods. The referenece preparation and antiserum used for LH and FSH were LH-RP-3, FSH-RP-2 and anti LH-5-10, and FSH-5-11. Testosterone was assayed with a double antibody kit. 1. Serum LH and testosterone levels decreased significantly after cyclosporine treatment in intact male rats. 2. Serum LH level increased singnificantly after cyclosporine treatment in castrated male rats. 3. There was no significant change in serum FSH concentration after cyclosporine treatment in intact and castrated rats. 4. Serum LH levels were increased significantly after the LHRH administration in all groups. 5. Serum testosterone levels were increased significantly after hCG administration in control and cyclosporine treated intact rats. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that hypogonadotropic hypogonadism induced by cyclosporine was mediated through the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, primarily at its hypothalamus.

      • Serum Thyrotropin, Thyroid Hormone, Growth Hormone and Prolactin Concentration in Normal Newborn Infants

        Changes of the serum TSH, T_3 and T_4 concentrations observed during the first four hours after birth in the present study are in agreement with data reported previously(Eren burg et al., 1974;Sack et al., 1976). The precise mechanism of neonatal TSH surge is not entirely clear, but it seems likely that it is mediated by increased TRH secretion. But exogenous TRH usually provokes both TSH and PRL release in human adult(Foley et al., 1972). Our results indicate that there is, indeed, a significant PRL surge associated with TSH surge during the first 30 minutes after birth. The mean serum GH concentration did not change significantly during the four hours after birth. Our data are consistent with the hypothesis that there is a TRH surge during the early minutes after birth which provokes release of both TSH and PRL. The fact that GH levels tent to decrease is against the view that the TSH and PRL increments represent stress responses. It also is unlikely that the transient reduction stress responses. It also in unlikely that the transient reduction in serum GH levels is mediated by somatostatin, since this releasing factor is known to inhibie the TSH response to TRH(Weeke et al., 1975). Our data show the possibility that release of both thyrotropin and prolactin is provoked by the same mechanism during the early hours after birth.

      • Changes of Peripheral Lymphocytes Subsets According to Presence of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Receptor Antibody in Children with Graves' Disease

        Graves’ disease is considered to be an organ-specific autoimmune disease. Evidence for a decrease in suppressor T lymphocytes population and function has led to the hypothesis of an imbalance between helper and suppressor T lymphocytes as a possible pathogenic mechanism in Graves’ disease. Using monoclonal antibodies to enumerate the percentage of lymphocytes, many investigators have reported abnormalities of peripheral lymphocytes subsets, but their results are conflicting. This study was performed to investigate the changes of lymphocytes subsets in peripheral blood using monoclonal antibodies according to TSH receptor binding inhibiting immunoglobulin (TBII) in nineteen children with Graves’ disease receiving antithyroid drugs over six months. TBII positive group consists of 9 patients and TBII negative group consists of 10 patients. The percentage of B lymphocytes and helper T lymphocytes in TBII positive group was significantly increased as compared with normal control (p<0.05), but it was not different between TBII negative group and normal control. The percentage of total T lymphocytes of TBII positive and TBII negative group was not different from that of normal control. The percentage of suppressor T lymphocytes in TBII positive group was significantly decreased as compared with normal control (p<0.05), but it was not different between TBII negative group and normal control. The ratio of helper T lymphocytes and suppressor T lymphocytes in TBII positive group was significantly increased as compared with normal control (p<0.01), but it was not different between TBII negative group and normal control. In conclusion, this study suggested the abnormalities in peripheral blood lymphocytes subsets, especially lymphocytes, helper and suppressor T lymphocytes were presented in Graves’ disease with the presence of TBII and these abnormalities were returned to normal in the disappearance state of TBII.

      • Effect of GnRH Antagonist (Ac-? Pro?, pFDPhe?, DTrp??)-GnRH, on Serum Testosterone and Spermatogenesis in Male Adult Rat

        Administration of a potent gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist (Ac-△^3 Pro^1, pFDPhe^2, DTrp^3,6)-GnRH to adult male rats resulted in decreased estosterone production and disrupted spermatogenesis. The results demonstrate the essential role of gonadotropin-releasing hormone in the maintenance of reproductive function and have implications for the regulation of male fertility.

        편평상피세포암과 동반된 소세포폐암에서 발생한 항이뇨호르몬 분비이상 증후군(SIADH) 1 예

        Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) is the term applied to arginine vasopressin (AVP) excess associated with hyponatremia without edema in the absence of physiologic or pharmacologic stimuli to AVP secretion. SIADH is associated with various conditions such as malignant tumors, infection, central nervous system disorders, and different pharmacological agents. The patient was 73-year-old female. She was admitted to the hospit al because of persistent cough, dizziness, gener al weakness and confusion. On admission, her serum osmolality was 253 mOsm/kg, urine osmolality was 416 mOm/ kg, and urine Na concentration was 159 mEq/ L. Her Chest X- ray and CT scan of lung showed about 4×3.5 cm sized mass at posterior basal segment of left lower lobe of the lung, and CT-guided percutaneous needle aspiration revealed small round cell with clusters of malignant squamous cells. She was treated by salt restriction, hypertonic saline infusion and demeclocycline. We planned chemotherapy for advaned combined lung cancer, but she was discharged because of poor general condition and associated pneumonia without cancer chemotherapy. We report a r are case of SIADH in small cell cancer of lung combined with squamous cell cancer of lung.(Korean J Med 61:562-566, 2001)
