Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the status of dental care in underserved areas of Korea. Methods: This study targeted 229 cities in Korea. The analytical index was revised and supplemented with variables related to dental care, and the “oral health level” indexes were further selected to provide a total of 20 analytical indexes. All selected indexes were converted into T scores (cited by the Korea Health Promotion Institute) and subjectively weighted. Finally, the regional oral health indices and areas were derived. PASW Statistics 25.0 (SPSS Inc. Chicago, IL, USA) was used to analyze descriptive statistics. Results: Gyeongbuk Cheongsong-gun had the highest dental underserved index. The city with the highest regional oral health underserved index was Jeonnam Shinan-gun. Daegu Jung-gu had the lowest dental underserved index and regional oral health underserved index. Regional gaps existed between dental care and the regional oral health underserved index according to the city province (p<0.001). Conclusions: To continuously evaluate oral health conditions and projects centered on vulnerable areas, it is necessary to develop indicators to derive vulnerable areas for dental care and to develop effective public dental policies.

Background: Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is any practice that has healing effects, but is not based on evidence demonstrated by scientific method. Recently, CAM has been used in various diseases including acne. However, there have been no studies on CAM for acne in Korea. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the use of CAM in acne patients. Methods: A total of 159 patients with acne were enrolled on the study, and filled out a questionnaire about use of CAM. Results: Overall 87.4% (139/159) of the patients reported the previous or current use of at least one more type of CAM. Cosmetics for acne (100, 22.9%) was most frequently used, followed by diet therapy (81, 18.5%), spa and bath therapies (77, 17.6%), health food supplement (67, 15.3%), skin care shop (64, 14.6%), oriental medicine (38, 8.7%), and aromatherapy (9, 2.1%). The most common reason for using CAM was ``wish to try everything`` (28.6%), and the most common source of information was internet (40.5%). The therapeutic effect of CAM was best with diet therapy (32.1%). The most common side effect of CAM was aggravation of symptoms. The most common monthly cost for CAM was between 50,000 and 100,000 won/person. Conclusion: As our results, we can predict that the use of various types of CAM for acne will become more common. Therefore, dermatologists need to study about benefits and adverse effects of CAM for acne.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to explore the trends of Korean medical study on stress in the industrial worker. Methods : We received numbers of the studies about stress in the industrial worker from 6 Korean web databases, using key words such as ‘Industry AND Stress’, ‘Oriental medicine AND Stress’, ‘Worker AND Stress’, ‘Workplace AND Stress’. We received 12 research papers and they were analyzed and the journals, the authors, the contents of 3 classification of those research papers. Results : Among them, we had 6 reviews of Dept. of preventive medicine and Dept. of third medicine, college of Korean Medicine, Won-kwang University, and the rest of them were 6 reviews. We had 4 reviews of Korean Journal of Oriental Preventive Medical Society, 2 reviews of the Journal of Traditional Korean Medicine, 2 reviews of Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry and so on. According to the contents of reviews, we had 7 reviews of correlation of industrial worker and stress, 4 reviews of cause on the industrial worker’s stress and 1 case report. Conclusions : We reviewed the trends of Korean medical study on stress in the industrial worker. The stress in the industrial workers were related with the type of occupation, social psychology, drinking, smoking, the satisfaction of job, the harmony of organization. And we knew that the musculoskeletal pain was related to the industrial worker’s stress. In the future, abundant case studies, follow-up trials and RCTs should be done about the industrial worker’s stress.

A non-instrumental immunochromatographic (ICG) strip-test and direct competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (DC-ELISA) for aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) determination were developed and optimized. The detection limits of ICG striptest and DC-ELISA were 0.5 and 0.004 ng/mL, respectively, and these methods possessed a cross-reaction to aflatoxins. The results of spiked samples by both methods were coincided with the amount spiked AFB1 and the comparative analyses of 172 real samples by 2 immunoassays and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) showed a good agreement. Especially, the ICG strip-test is easier to perform and quicker, but less sensitivity than DC-ELISA. Both methods could analyze a high sample throughput with short time, but the sample throughput of ICG strip-test was better. Therefore, the ICG strip-test can be used as a simple, easy, non-instrumental, and fast screening technique for AFB1 determination.

Background: Sorafenib is the first systemic agent to show a survival benefit in patients with advanced HCC. Because there is a substantial portion of poor-responders to sorafenib, reliable biomarkers to predict the treatment response before initiation are urgently needed. The aim of this study was to identify genome variations associated with responsiveness of sorafenib in unresectable HCC patients who were treated with concurrent TACE-sorafenib trial or sorafenib only by whole genome analysis using recently developed Next Generation Sequencing technology. Methods: We obtained normal genomic DNAs from four good responders (median TTP 10.8months) and three poor responders (median TTP 3.8months) and analyzed their genome by whole-genome sequencing using 90 bp paired-end reads. Identified variations were validated by Sanger sequencing and further functional analysis was performed. Results: On average, 90 gigabases per sample were produced at ~34X sequencing depth, and they were mapped to the reference genome at an over 95% mapping rate. A total of 1813 variations were found and 138 are from sorafenib target- and drug ADME genes. Among them, 36 SNVs were found in the coding genes and 8 SNVs from 5 genes (ABCB1, ALDH3B1, FMO3, MUSK, SLC15A2) were non-synonymous SNVs which may cause a functional protein damage. Interestingly, pathway analysis of 1813 ns SNVs revealed that drug metabolism pathway components were highly affected (p <0.01), suggesting that the genetic differences in patients resulted in the different responses to sorafenib treatment. Conclusions: We present the results of whole genome sequencing approach to identify sorafenib response markers and related genes in unresectable HCC patients. We found genome variations in known sorafenib targets and ADME genes. These variations may offer a great resource to identify HCC patients whose genetic types are predicted as advantageous for sorafenib treatment.

Finding a restaurant service is one of the preferred services for many Smartphone users. However, mobile map service has a limit between traffic and information sharing. Therefore it is very important to supply their information for both service provider and terminal user. In this paper, we designed a Smartphone application for WaguWagu (alias for finding a restaurant) using interactive sketch map on routes and information to be applied effectively. A benefit of this paper is a useful case to the Smartphone application developers by using interactive sketch map.
