Soybeans are well-known as allergenic foods. Koreans consume large amounts of soybean foods, such as kochujang, which have gone through the fermentation process. To lower the allergenicity of these foods, we prepared hypo allergenic kochujang with aloe extract (AK). A sensory evaluation was conducted along with a clinical evaluation that used a double-blind, placebo-controlled food challenge (DBPCFC) test These tests were designed to evaluate the acceptability of the fermented foods. In comparison to normal kochujang (NK), AK elicited a higher sensory test score, and the rate of positive reactions in atopic dermatitis patients during the DBPCFC test was reduced. Methods of protein extraction, protein quantitation with sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), and protein identification using two-dimensional (2D) gel electrophoresis were performed for both NK and AK to compare the functional factors. We found a reduction in the levels of high molecular proteins even though the bands of the proteins had not entirely disappeared, indicating that the boiling and fermentation process changed the soybean protein patterns. The rate of the reduction of high molecular proteins was more effective in the AK. In conclusion, AK can be recognized as a food with hypoallergenic effect.

이 연구는 ICF 환경적 요인을 적용하여, 장애학생의 대학생활적응 관련 요인을 알아보고 영향력을 비교하고자 하였다. 대상자는 장애 대학생 60명이었다. 일반적 특성, 장애관련 특성, 대학생활 관련 특성, 대학생활 적응은 설문지를, 환경적 요인은 ICF checklist를 사용하였다. 연구결과, 일반적 특성인 휴학경험과 학교에 따라 대학생활 적응은 차이가 있었고, 환경적 요인의 교육용 제품 및 기술(e1), 기타 특이적인 지원과 관계(e3), 개인적 도움 제공자 및 개인보조원(e3), 직계가족 구성원의 개인적인 태도(e4)가 대학생활 적응과의 관련성을 보였다. 장애 대학생의 효과적인 대학생활 적응 향상을 위해 환경의 물리적?사회적?심리적 요인을 동등한 가치로 접근하는 것이 좋을 것으로 생각한다. The purpose of this study was to identify a adjusting to university life of students with disabilities. Data were gathered from 60 subjects. As a result, university life adaptation shows significantly difference according to experience about absence and each school. The Products and technology for education(e1), support and relationships of immediate family(e4), supports and relationships of other specified(e3), Individual attitudes of personal care providers and personal assistants(e3) from ICF environmental factor affect the university life adaptation. Therefore active considering, supporting and simultaneous accessing to physical(e1)?social(e3)?psychological(e4) components in environmental factors are helpful to acquire positive changes in disabled student"s university life adaptation.

In plants, glycoproteins have been implicated in a wide variety of cellular processes including production of cell walls, pollination, pathogen defence and cell-to-cell communication. In addition, they have attracted considerable interest from the medical field as the main cause of food and pollen allergies. N-glycosylation is a complex process that encompasses the biosynthesis and modification of sugar moieties in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi. The core oligosaccharide Glc3Man9GlcNAc2 is assembled by a series of membrane-bound glycosyltransferases as the lipid carrier dolichylpyrophosphate-linked glycan in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). The first step of this assembly pathway on the ER luminal side is mediated by ALG3 (asparagine-linked glycosylation 3), which is a highly conserved reaction among eukaryotic cells. In Arabidopsis ALG3 mutant (alg3), an immature lipid-linked oligosaccharide structure, M5ER, was synthesized and efficiently processed into complex-type glycans. Although no high-mannose-type glycoproteins are detected in alg3 plants, these plants do not show a growth phenotype under normal growth conditions. However, the glycosylation abnormalities result in activation of marker genes diagnostic of the unfolded protein response and alg3 mutant showed a stress sensitive phenotype. These results indicate that ALG3 is a critical factor for correct N-glycosylation of proteins and is involved in the ER stress response.

Objective: to determine the frequency of the multiple consecutive rib fracture after blunt chest trauma. Design, Materials, and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all the radiographs and medical charts of 87 patients with rib fractures after blunt chest trauma. Rib fractures were divided into single and multiple. The multiple. The multiple rib fractures were subclassified as consecutive, interrupted continuous, or random. Results: Thirteen cases of single and 83 cases of multiple rib fractures were present. Among the 83 cases of multiple fractures, there were 73 cases (88%) of consecutive fractures, 5 cases(6%) of interrupted continuous fractures and 5 cases (6%) of random fractures. Conclusion: Among the multiple rib fractures consecutive rib fractures are much more common than noncontiguous rib fractures. We recommend that if one find an apparently nonfractured rib between contiguously fractured upper and lower ribs, one should meticulously search for possible fracture of an apparently normal rib with high-index of suspicion.

<P>Two novel cyclic depsipeptides, ulleungamides A (1) and B (2), were isolated from cultures of terrestrial Streptomyces sp. Their structures were determined by analyses of spectroscopic data and various chemical transformations, including modified Mosher's method, advanced Marfey's method, PGMF,, GITC derivatizations, and Snatzke's method. Ulleungamides were determined to be a new class of peptides bearing unprecedented units, such as 5-hydroxy-6-methyl-2,3-dehydropipecolic acid, 4,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-2,3-dehydropipecolic acid, and amino-linked 2-isopropylsuccinic acid. Ulleungamide A displayed growth inhibitory activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium without cytotoxicity.</P>

Chemical and biological agents were evaluated to in- hibit Colletotrichum fructicola, Phytophthora cactorum, and Lasiodiplodia theobromae causing strawberry dis- eases. Mycelial growths of C. fructicola were gradually arrested by increasing concentrations of fungicides pyraclostrobin and iminoctadine tris (albesilate). P. cac- torum and L. theobromae were more sensitive to pyra- clostrobin compared to C. fructicola, but iminoctadine tris (albesilate) was not or less effective to limit P. cac- torum or L. theobromae, respectively. Bacillus siamensis H30-3 was antagonistic against the three pathogens by diffusible as well as volatile molecules, and evidently reduced aerial mycelial formation of P. cactorum. B. siamensis H30-3 growth was declined by at least 0.025 mg/ml of pyraclostrobin. The two fungicides additively inhibited mycelial growths of C. fructicola, but not of P. cactorum and L. theobromae. B. siamensis H30-3 vola- tiles led to less growth of C. fructicola than one reduced by the fungicides. Taken together, in vitro antimicrobial activities of the two fungicides together with or without B. siamensis H30-3 volatiles may be cautiously incorpo- rated into integrated management of strawberry dis- eases dependent on causal pathogens.
