The attraction of Culex pipiens pallens Coquillett to various potential sugar sources in their habitats remains unknown. In the present study, we evaluated the attraction of Cx. pipiens pallens to the volatiles of different kinds of flowers, fruits, and seed pods by multiple choice tests under laboratory conditions. Nine of the 21 tested fresh tissues of flowers were attractive to females and six of them were attractive to males. The volatiles of six flowers (Ligustrum quihoui, Abelia chinensis, Ophiopogon japonicus, Phaseolus vulgaris, Osmanthus fragrans, and Nerium indicum) were attractive to both female and male Cx. pipiens pallens, and the flowers of Torenia fournieri and Lavandula angustifolia were potentially repellent to female and male mosquitoes, respectively. Besides, the volatiles of three fruits and seed pods (Broussonetia papyrifera, Amygdalus persica, and Cucumis melo) were attractive to both female and male Cx. pipiens pallens while the seed pods of Ficus carica and Pyrus bretschneideri were only attractive to females and males, respectively. This study provides valuable information on developing novel control methods against Cx. pipiens pallens in China.

Fungi fibrinolytic compound 1 (FGFC1) is a novel marine natural product as a low-weight fibrinolytic pyranoindole molecule, whose thrombolytic effects were evaluated on FITC-fibrin (Fluorescein isothiocyanate, FITC) degradation methods in vitro and on acute pulmonary thromboembolism animal model in vivo. We determined the FGFC1 induced thrombolysis that stems from its fibrin(ogen)olytic activities as measured by fibrin(ogen) degradation products (FDPs) experiment, acute pulmonary thromboembolism animal model experiment, and euglobulin lysis assay. In vitro, measurement of FITCfibrin degradation revealed that fibrin hydrolysis occurred in a concentration-dependent manner of FGFC1 from 5 to 25 l mol/L. In vivo test of a classical acute pulmonary thromboembolism model in rat showed that when the injected dose was 5 mg/kg or above, FGFC1 was effectivein dissolution of extrinsic FITC-fibrin induced blood clots. Euglobulin lysis time (ELT) in FGFC1-treated rats was shortened 30 s compared with rats in the positive control group, which were injected with clopidogrel sulfate and single-chain urokinase-type plasminogen activator. As compared to the control, FGFC1 (5–25 mg/kg) did not significantly alter the formation of fibrinogen and FDPs in vivo. Our research indicates that FGFC1 presents pharmacodynamic action in both the thrombolysis and the hemolytic procedure, which can be characterized by fibrinogenolysis in blood and FDPs in plasma. In vivo, increasing fibrinolytic doses of FGFC1 from 5 to 25 mg/kg did not induce fibrinogenolysis when compared with control group, this result corresponds to that FGFC1 did not induce the increasing of FDPs (compared with the salinetreated control). It indicates that the FGFC1 may act as a novel thrombolytic agent and represent an effective approach to the treatment of thrombus without significant risk of hemorrhagic activity.
Recent progress of continuous crystallization
Ting Wang,Haijiao Lu,Jingkang Wang,Yan Xiao,Yanan Zhou,Ying Bao,Hongxun Hao 한국공업화학회 2017 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.54 No.-
Continuous crystallization has always been a hot topic in industrial crystallization. Many efforts have been made to improve the continuous crystallization, either by designing novel continuous crystallizers or by proposing improved design and operation of conventional continuous crystallizers. Some new models for continuous crystallization processes have also been proposed and tested in recent years. In this work, the development of continuous crystallization in recent years, including novel crystallizers, control strategies, models and some assistive technologies, is summarized. Promising as it is, continuous crystallization is still not as universal as batch crystallization due to the existence of the drawbacks, such as blockage and encrustation. Therefore, further efforts are needed before wider application of continuous crystallization.

Background: In China, secondary cytoreductive surgery (SCR) has been widely used in ovarian cancer (OC) over the past two decades. Although Gynecologic Oncology Group-0213 trial did not show its overall survival benefit in first relapsed patients, the questions on patient selection and effect of subsequent targeting therapy are still open. The preliminary data from our pre-SOC1 phase II study showed that selected patients with second relapse who never received SCR at recurrence may still benefit from surgery. Moreover, poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi) maintenance now has been a standard care for platinum sensitive relapsed OC. To our knowledge, no published or ongoing trial is trying to answer the question if patient can benefit from a potentially complete resection combined with PARPi maintenance in OC patients with secondary recurrence. Methods: SOC-3 is a multi-center, open, randomized, controlled, phase II trial of SCR followed by chemotherapy and niraparib maintenance vs chemotherapy and niraparib maintenance in patients with platinum-sensitive second relapsed OC who never received SCR at recurrence. To guarantee surgical quality, if the sites had no experience of participating in any OC-related surgical trials, the number of recurrent lesions evaluated by central-reviewed positron emission tomography–computed tomography image shouldn't be more than 3. Eligible patients are randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive either SCR followed by 6 cycles of platinum-based chemotherapy and niraparib maintenance or 6 cycles of platinum-based chemotherapy and niraparib maintenance alone. Patients who undergo at least 4 cycles of chemotherapy and must be, in the opinion of the investigator, without disease progression, will be assigned niraparib maintenance. Major inclusion criteria are secondary relapsed OC with a platinum-free interval of no less than 6 months and a possibly complete resection. Major exclusion criteria are borderline tumors and non-epithelial ovarian malignancies, received debulking surgery at recurrence and impossible to complete resection. The sample size is 96 patients. Primary endpoint is 12-month non-progression rate. Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03983226
Shear and tensile behaviors of headed stud connectors in double skin composite shear wall
Jia-Bao Yan,Zhe Wang,Tao Wang,Xiao-Ting Wang 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.26 No.6
This paper studies shear and tensile behaviors of headed stud connectors in double skin composite (DSC) structure. Firstly, 11 push-out tests and 11 tensile tests were performed to investigate the ultimate shear and tensile behaviors of headed stud in DSC shear wall, respectively. The main parameters investigated in this test program were height and layout of headed stud connectors. The test results reported the representative failure modes of headed studs in DSC structures subjected to shear and tension. The shear-slip and tension-elongation behaviors of headed studs in DSC structures were also reported. Influences of different parameters on these shear-slip and tension-elongation behaviors of headed studs were discussed and analyzed. Analytical models were also developed to predict the ultimate shear and tensile resistances of headed stud connectors in DSC shear walls. The developed analytical model incorporated the influence of the dense layout of headed studs in DSC shear walls. The validations of analytical predictions against 22 test results confirmed the accuracy of developed analytical models.
Grain Size Effect on Multi-Stage Micro Deep Drawing of Micro Cup with Domed Bottom
Wen Ting Li,Ming Wang Fu,Ji Lai Wang,Bao Meng 한국정밀공학회 2016 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.17 No.6
A two-stage micro deep drawing system was designed and developed to manufacture a micro cup with domed bottom. The copper blank was annealed at three different conditions to obtain different grain sizes in such a way to study the grain size effect on the deformation behavior and thickness variation of the micro part. To investigate the instantaneous effect and deformation behavior, finite element simulation was used to simulate the whole drawing process. It revealed that the fracture in the place with the thinnest thickness in the micro part drawn from a circle blank with residual stress induced in blanking can be easily happen and the deformation load in the first-stage decreases more than that in the second-stage with the increase of grain size. Moreover, the micro part with a larger grain size has more nonuniform thickness and severer thinning around the punch corner. The surface roughness at the bottom of micro part increases with the grain size. The surface roughness at the wall of it, however, decreases with the deformation stage mainly due to the ironing effect. The research promotes the understanding of grain size effect on multi-stage micro deep drawing and facilitates the development of microforming process.

Bioethanol production from lignocellulose is considered as a sustainable biofuel supply. However, the low cellulose hydrolysis efficiency limits the cellulosic ethanol production. The cellulase is strongly inhibited by the major end product cellobiose, which can be relieved by the addition of β-glucosidase. In this study, three β-glucosidases from different organisms were respectively expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and the β-glucosidase from Saccharomycopsis fibuligera showed the best activity (5.2 U/ml). The recombinant strain with S. fibuligera β-glucosidase could metabolize cellobiose with a specific growth rate similar to the control strain in glucose. This recombinant strain showed higher hydrolysis efficiency in the cellulose simultaneous saccharification and fermentation, when using the Trichoderma reesei cellulase, which is short of the β-glucosidase activity. The final ethanol concentration was 110% (using Avicel) and 89% (using acid-pretreated corncob) higher than the control strain. These results demonstrated the effect of β-glucosidase secretion in the recombinant S. cerevisiae for enhancing cellulosic ethanol conversion.

Wen-Chien Ting,Lu-Min Chen,Li-Chia Huang,Mann-Jen Hour,Yu-Hsuan Lan,Hong-Zin Lee,Bang-Jau You,Ta-Yuan Chang,Bo-Ying Bao 대한의학회 2013 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.28 No.9
Chronic inflammation is thought to be the leading cause of colorectal cancer, and interleukin-10 (IL10) has been identified as a potent immunomodulatory cytokine that regulates inflammatory responses in the gastrointestinal tract. Although several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in IL10 have been associated with the risk of colorectal cancer, their prognostic significance has not been determined. Two hundred and eightytwo colorectal cancer patients were genotyped for two candidate cancer-associated SNPs in IL10. The associations of these SNPs with distant metastasis-free survival and overall survival were evaluated by Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression model. The minor homozygote GG genotype of IL10 rs3021094 was significantly associated with a 3.30-fold higher risk of death compared with the TT+TG genotypes (P = 0.011). The patients with IL10rs3021094 GG genotype also had a poorer overall survival in Kaplan-Meier analysis (log-rank P = 0.007) and in multivariate Cox regression model (P = 0.044) adjusting for age, gender, carcinoembryonic antigen levels, tumor differentiation, stage, lymphovascular invasion, and perineural invasion. In conclusion, our results suggest that IL10 rs3021094 might be a valuable prognostic biomarker for colorectal cancer patients.
