Comparison of the Heating Properties of LaB6 and CeB6 Due to the Back Comparison of the Heating Properties of LaB_6 and CeB_6 Due to the Back

        Mahmoud Bakr,R. Kinjo,Y. W. Choi,M. Omer,K. Yoshida,S. Ueda,M. Takasaki,K. Ishida,N. Kimura,H. Zen,T. Sonobe,T. Kii,K. Masuda,H. Ohgaki 한국물리학회 2011 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.59 No.51

The heating property of LaB_6 and CeB_6 cathodes is investigated against the Back Bombardment (BB) effect in thermionic RF guns using numerical calculation of the stopping range and deposited heat power inside the cathode materials. Then the change in a cathode temperature and corresponding change of current density during 5.5 μs pulse duration are determined by solving two differential equations. The simulation results show that, the change of current density during the macropulse for LaB_6 two times higher than for CeB_6, hence, the effect of the BB electrons in CeB_6 is less than for LaB_6.

Utility of forward-view endoscopic ultrasound in fine-needle aspiration in patients with a surgically altered upper gastrointestinal anatomy

        Asmaa Bakr,Kazuo Hara,Moaz Elshair,Shin Haba,Takamichi Kuwahara,Nozomi Okuno,Daiki Fumihara,Takafumi Yanaidani,Samy Zaky,Hanaa Omar 대한소화기내시경학회 2023 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.56 No.3

Background/Aims: Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) using oblique-view EUS in patients with a surgically altered anatomy (SAA) of the upper gastrointestinal tract is limited because of difficult scope insertion due to the disturbed anatomy. This study aimed to investigate the efficiency of forward-view (FV)-EUS in performing FNA in patients with a SAA. Methods: We retrospectively investigated 32 patients with a SAA of the upper gastrointestinal tract who visited Aichi Cancer Center Hospital in Nagoya, Japan, between January 2014 and December 2020. We performed upper gastrointestinal EUS-FNA using FV-EUS combined with fluoroscopic imaging to confirm tumor recurrence or to make a decision before chemotherapy or after a failure of diagnosis by radiology. Results: We successfully performed EUS-FNA in all studied patients (100% technical success), with the specificity, sensitivity, and accuracy of 100%, 87.5%, and 87.8%, respectively, with no complications. Conclusions: EUS-FNA using FV-EUS combined with fluoroscopic imaging is an effective and safe technique for tissue acquisition in patients with a SAA.

      • Garlic and allopurinol alleviate the apoptotic pathway in rats’ brain following exposure to fipronil insecticide

        Amira Abo Bakr,Mohamed Ali,Khairy Ibrahim 환경독성보건학회 2022 환경독성보건학회지 Vol.37 No.4

Fipronil can cause oxidative tissue damage and apoptosis. Our goal is to evaluate the antiapoptotic impact of garlic or allopurinol against fipronil neurotoxicity. Thirty-six mature male albino rats were separated into control, garlic aqueous extract (500 mg/kg), allopurinol (150 mg/L in their drinking water), fipronil (13.277 mg/kg), garlic+fipronil, and allopurinol+fipronil. Our results revealed that fipronil induced a significant increase in brain malondialdehyde, protein carbonyl levels as well as enzymatic antioxidant activities (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, and xanthine oxidase), but glutathione-S-transferase recorded a significant decrease as compared to the control. In addition, fipronil significantly up-regulated the brain pro-apoptotic (Bax) and caspase -3 mRNA gene expression and induced DNA fragmentation but caused down-regulation in anti-apoptotic (Bcl-2) mRNA genes expression. Interestingly, co-administration with garlic or allopurinol improved the lipid peroxidation, antioxidant disturbance, and apoptosis induced by fipronil in the brain tissues. In conclusion, garlic or allopurinol reduced fipronil-induced apoptosis and reduced oxidative tissue damage, most likely through enhancing the tissue antioxidant defense system.

Effects of Drying Methods on the Physicochemical and Compressional Characteristics of Okra Powder and the Release Properties of its etronidazole Tablet Formulation

        L. G. Bakre,K. T. Jaiyeoba 대한약학회 2009 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.32 No.2

A study has been made of the effects of sun and oven drying methods on the physicochemical characteristics and compressibility of Okra powder and the release properties of its metronidazole tablet formulation. Corn starch was used as the reference standard. The mechanical properties of the tablets were evaluated using crushing strength and friability, while the release properties were determined using the disintegration times and dissolution rates. The results obtained showed that sun-dried Okra powder had smaller particle size, exhibited good flow and possessed higher hydration and swelling capacities compared to the oven dried samples. The compressibility of Okra powders assessed by the indices of plasticity from Heckel (Py) and Kawakita plots (Pk) showed that sun dried Okra powders had higher Py but lower Pk values than the oven-dried Okra powder. Metronidazole tablets formulated with oven dried Okra powder formed stronger tablets than tablets containing sun dried Okra powder. Generally, tablets containing sun dried Okra powders had faster disintegration and dissolution than tablets formulated with oven-dried powder. The results suggest that the choice of drying method during the processing of pharmaceutical raw materials is critical to its physicochemical properties and the release properties of its tablet formulations.

Radiation Generation with an Existing Demonstrator of an Energy-Recovery Continuous-Wave Superconducting RF Accelerator

        Hwang Ji-Gwang,Abo-Bakr Michael,Matveenko Aleksandr,Kourkafas Georgios,Kamps Thorsten 한국물리학회 2020 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.77 No.5

Over the past decades, many accelerator laboratories have put much effort into the development of compact energy-recovery linac (ERL) demonstrators to verify various physical and technical aspects of the generation, acceleration, transport and energy recovery of high brightness and high average current electron beams in a superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) linear accelerator. Beyond these goals, the ERL demonstrator also offers unique opportunities to study novel schemes for THz and X-ray radiation generation. In this paper, we discuss feasible options for schemes generating THz and X-ray radiation at low-energy continuous-wave (CW) SRF ERL demonstrators such as the bERLinPro accelerator.

Deterministic Seismic Hazard Map Using Region-Specific GMPEs of Maharashtra State, India

Sagar Dhole,Sachin Bakre 대한토목학회 2024 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.28 No.2

Maharashtra stands out as a crucial state in India, demonstrating significant progress in infrastructural development and industrialization. Several prominent cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, etc., are significantly contributing to the Indian economy. Considering the importance of the state, a deterministic seismic hazard analysis is executed to reduce the damages to critical and important structures and fatalities caused due to earthquakes. Past earthquakes data are collected within and around the state to prepare a homogenised earthquake catalogue. Seven seismic zones are prepared using K- mean cluster analysis. Independent earthquake events i.e., mainshocks are identified using four renowned declustering methods. Additionally, with the help of mainshocks from each zone, the maximum observed earthquake magnitude () and positive correction factor (Δ) are estimated. By superimposing all the mainshocks (after adding Δ) onto the fault map, the maximum observed possible earthquake magnitude of all faults () are assigned to each fault. value is used to estimate surface rupture length (RLD) and consecutively, the maximum magnitude (MMax) from fault sources are estimated. Three region-specific ground motion prediction equations (GMPEs) are adopted in the logic trees assigning a proper weightage to each GMPE. A seismic hazard contour maps are prepared at bedrock level, C, and D-type soil sites for Maharashtra. In the western part of the study area, the maximum PGA value is found to be 0.58 g, 0.70 g, and 0.33 g at bedrock level, C, and D-type sites, respectively.

      • Circulating Levels of Adipocytokines as Potential Biomarkers for Early Detection of Colorectal Carcinoma in Egyptian Patients

Zekri, Abdel-Rahman N,Bakr, Yasser Mabrouk,Ezzat, Maali Mohamed,Zakaria, Mohamed Serag Eldeen,Elbaz, Tamer Mahmoud Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.16

Background: Early detection of various kinds of cancers nowadays is needed including colorectal cancer due to the highly significant effects in improving cancer treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential value of adiponectin, visfatin and resistin as early biomarkers for colorectal cancer patients. Materials and Methods: Serum levels of adiponectin, visfatin and resistin were measured by a sandwich-enzyme-linked (ELISA) assay technique in 114 serum samples comprising 34 patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), 27 with colonic polyps (CP), 24 with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and 29 healthy controls. The diagnostic accuracy of each serum marker was evaluated using receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results: The mean concentration of adiponectin was significantly higher in CRC and CP groups than IBD and control groups (P-value <0.05). Also the mean concentration of serum resistin was significantly elevated in the IBD and control groups compared to CRC and CP groups (P-value = 0.014). However, no significant difference was noted in patients of the CRC and CP groups. On the other hand, the mean concentration of visfatin was significantly elevated in CRC and control groups compared to CP and IBD groups (P-value = 0.03). ROC analysis curves for the studied markers revealed that between CRC and IBD groups serum level of adiponectin had a sensitivity of 76.7% and a specificity of 76% at a cut off value of 3940, +LR being 3.2 and -LR 0.31 with AUC 0.852, while serum level of adiponectin between CP and IBD had a sensitivity of 77.8% and a specificity of 75% at a cut off value of 3300, with +LR=3.11 and -LR = 0.3 with AUC 0.852. On the other hand the serum level of visfatin between CRC and CP groups had a sensitivity of 65.5% and a specificity of 66.7 at a cut off value of 2.4, +LR being 1.67 and -LR 0.52 with AUC 0.698. Also the serum level of resistin had a sensitivity of 62.5% and a specificity of 70.3% at a cut off value of 24500, with +LR=2.1 and -LR = 0.53 with AUC 0.685 between control and other groups. On the other hand by comparing control vs CP groups resistin had a sensitivity of 81.8% and a specificity of 70.8% at a cut off value of 17700, with +LR=2.8 and -LR = 0.26 with AUC 0.763 while visfatin had a sensitivity of 68.2% and a specificity of 70.8% at a cut off value of 2.7, with +LR=2.34 and -LR = 0.0.45 with AUC 0.812. Conclusions: These findings support potential roles of adiponectin, visfatin and resistin in early detection of CRC and discrimination of different groups of CRC, CP or IBD patients from normal healthy individuals.
