A next generation NU 1.8L/2.0L gasoline engine has been developed by Hyundai-Kia Motor Company for new vehicles. Independently developed Nu Engine will be applied to new Elantra in North America market. The new engine achieved high performance and improved fuel economy by applying dual continuously variable valve timing and two step variable induction system, which has enabled both low and mid speed torque and high speed power. In addition reduced noise level was realized by optimizing lower structure components and induction parts with maintaining lightweight. The engine meets U.S. SULEV and EURO 5 emission regulation in terms of green environment protection. The paper presents overview of a new I4 gasoline engine (Nu Engine) as well as features of each technology which embodies well tuned engine with respect to high engine performance, low fuel economy, emission and reduced NVH.

Retroperitoneal hemorrhage caused by intra-abdominal vascular injury during pregnancy or puerperium is rare, but a very fatal complication. Massive retroperitoneal hemorrhage causes the high mortality rate of mother and fetus. But the difficulty of diagnosis and rarity may delay prompt treatment. We experienced a case of massive retroperitoneal hemorrhage, which was caused by a suspected left lumbar artery aneurysm rupture on the fifth day of vaginal delivery. The patient was successfully treated by surgery and arterial embolization. We reported this case with a brief review of literature.
Studies on Mosquito Control Effectiveness of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis Formulations

1984年 1月 부터 1985年 4月까지 微生物 毒性製劑 Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis를 利用한 모기 幼蟲 感受性 및 驅除效果에 關한 屋內 및 小規模 野外實驗을 實施하였다. 1. 屋內 感受性實驗은 WHO International Center로부터 供給받은 B.T.I. 15種의 藥劑를 對象으로 빨간집모기 Culex pipiens 幼蟲은 LD_50致死率에서 토고숲모기 Aedes togoi 幼蟲에 比해 높은 感受性을 나타내었다. LD_50와 LD_90를 比較해 보면 ; Culex pipiens는 0.012-0.015㎎/1 과 0.024-0.030 ㎎/1이었으며, Aedes togoi는 0.037-0.379㎎/1와 0.069-0.671㎎/1이었다. 2. 모기幼蟲 以外의 他 水棲動物인 2種의 모기天敵 捕食魚, 왜 몰개 Aphyocypris chinensis 및 송사리 Aplocheilus latipes와 2種의 天敵無脊椎動物, 밀잠자리 Orthetrum triangulare melania 및 물방개 Cybister sp. 에 對한 B.t.i.의 安全性實驗에서는 B.t.i.. 處理濃度 1, 5, 10 및 100㎎/1의 濃度에서 모두 어떠한 致死效果도 나타내지 않아 比較的 넓은 範圍의 安全性을 確認할 수 있었다. 3. 小規模 野外實驗에서는 B.t.i. ABG-6018 藥劑로 下水池에서 2.5㎏/㏊의 濃度로 處理한 24時間 後에 58.7%, 72時間後에 68.0%의 상당한 防除效果를 나타내었으며, B.t.i. R 153.78 藥劑로 1.0㎏/㏊의 濃度로 處理한 結果 24時間後에 99.5%의 滿足할 만한 防除效果를 나타내었다. 本 實驗結果를 綜合해 보면 모기幼蟲에 對한 數種의 微生物 毒性製劑의 優秀한 感受性 및 防除效果로 앞으로의 繼續的인 硏究開發이 切實히 要求되며, 숲모기類에서 보다 집모기類에서 그 活用 및 效果가 期待되는 바이다.
