<P>We present the results of high-resolution near-IR spectroscopy toward the multiple outflows around the Herbig Be star LkH alpha 234 using the Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph. Previous studies indicate that the region around LkHa 234 is complex, with several embedded young stellar objects and the outflows associated with them. In simultaneous H- and K-band spectra from HH 167, we detected 5 [Fe II] and 14 H-2 emission lines. We revealed a new [Fe II] jet driven by radio continuum source VLA 3B. Position-velocity diagrams of the H-2 1-0 S(1) lambda 2.122 mu m line show multiple velocity peaks. The kinematics may be explained by a geometrical bow shock model. We detected a component of H-2 emission at the systemic velocity (V-LSR = -10.2 km s(-1)) along the whole slit in all slit positions, which may arise from the ambient photodissociation region. Low-velocity gas dominates the molecular hydrogen emission from knots A and B in HH 167, which is close to the systemic velocity; [Fe II] emission lines are detected farther from the systemic velocity, at V-LSR = -100--130 km s(-1). We infer that the H-2 emission arises from shocked gas entrained by a high-velocity outflow. Population diagrams of H-2 lines imply that the gas is thermalized at a temperature of 2500-3000 K and the emission results from shock excitation.</P>
Effects of matured silkworm hemolymph on suppressing melanin synthesis and skin flora

In this study, matured silkworm hemolymph was studied for inhibitory effect on melanocyte formation, tyrosinase activities and antibacterial effect. A matured silkworm hemolymph mass purification method was developed and some of suppressing melanin formation effects were investigated, too. Antibacterial effects were tested by Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Candida albicans. As a result, the advanced purification method was higher in yield rate than existing one by 53%. A free radical scavenging activity of hemolymph was higher than sericin on the market(IC50, 202.9±33.1) and lower than vitamin C(0.57±0.02) by 6.4±0.3 ㎍/㎖. An inhibitory effect on melanin synthesis was higher in hemolymph compared to morus bark and arbutin by 9.15% and 11.56%, respectively. The antibacterial effects on Escherichia, Staphylococcus were detected at 2% hemolymph concentration, which was relatively good. Thus, these results suggest that hemolymph of matured silkworm may have beneficial properties as a material for cosmetics.

IgG4 related disease is a fibro-infiammatory disease, characterized by lymphoplasmacytic infiltration of various organs and frequently affected middle-aged males. Massive pleural effusion in children is an uncommon feature in IgG4 related pulmonary disease (IPD). We report a case of young male with extensive IPD presenting mediastinal mass, massive pleural effusion and mesenteric lymphadenopathy. A 16-year-old male was admitted for treatment on a recurrent bilateral pleural effusion. He has a history of admission to other hospital because of similar symptoms last year. At that time, Chest CT showed bilateral pleural effusion and anterior mediastinal soft tissue density. Video- assisted thoracoscopic mediastinal biopsy revealed angiomyolipoma. The follow-up chest CT findings were not specific but progressive increase of pleural effusion may suggest diffuse pleural involvement of IgG4-related disease. Abdomen CT showed diffusely increased attenuation of the mesentery and enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes, which was also associated with IgG4-related disease. Our histopathological review of prior mediastinal biopsy was consistent with IgG4 related sclerosing disease rather than angiomyolipoma, which included papillary proliferation of reactive mesothelial cells and dense collagenous . brosis with stromal dense lymphoplasmacytic infiltration. [IgG4-/IgG-(+) plasma cell>40%, IgG4: maximal count 62/HPF, HMB-45(-)] In addition, serum IgG level was elevated (626mg/dl, normal range 700~1600mg/dl), as was the serum IgG4 level (1650mg/dl, normal range 110~1570md/dl), thereby con. rming a diagnosis of IgG4 related disease. The characteristic of his pleural fiuid was exudate and chylothorax (triglyceride 551mg/dl). He was treated with high dose steroid. The present case is the first case of extensive IPD in a 16-year-old male in our country. We recommend that clinicians consider IgG4-related disease as a possible differential diagnosis from the children with massive pleural effusion, elevation of serum IgG4/IgG and lymphoplasmacytic in. ltrated in pathology.
한국의 총고정자본형성, 순자본스톡 및 자본계수추계: 11개 자산-72부문(1970~2005) / 지정토론 / 일반토론

우리나라는 1968년 제1차 국부통계조사를 실시한 이후 1997년까지 매 10년마다 4차(1968, 1977, 1987, 1997)에 걸쳐 실사에 의해 국부를 추계해왔다. 그러나 1997년 이후에는 실사에 의한 국부추계가 종료되고 간접추계에 의해 국부추계가 시도되어야 하며, 그 결과는 한국은행의 국민대차대조표 추계와 연계되어야 한다. 본 연구는 표학길(2003)의 후속 연구로서 국부통계조사결과를 다항식기준년접속법(polynomial benchmark year estimation method)의 기준년도 자료로 활용하여 생산성 국제비교가 용이하도록 EU KLEMS 프로젝트의 가이드라인을 따라 11개 자산(무형고정자산 포함) 및 72개 산업 분류에 맞추어 추계한 총고정자본형성 및 순자본스톡 추계 결과를 수록하였다. 또한 거시 모형에 사용할 수 있는 분기별 순자본스톡 자료도 함께 추계하였다. 이 과정에서 종전에는 사용하지 못하였던 총고정자본형성배분표(한국은행의 산업연관표 부속표)를 사용하였다는 점이 가장 큰 특징으로 볼 수 있다. 자본스톡자료를 이용하여 Hayashi-Prescott(2002)이 일본경제(1960~2000)의 전산업 자료에 시도한 성장회계 모형을 한국경제(1970~2005)의 72개 산업에 적용한 결과를 소개한다. National Statistical Office (NSO) of Korea have conducted direct National Wealth Survey (NWS) four times every ten years from 1968. However, since 1997 they have switched from direct survey to indirect estimation. Their indirect estimates have to be linked to estimates of non-financial assets in the national balance-sheet which is in preparation by the Bank of Korea. The present study is a follow-up of Pyo(2003) in the sense that we are using the same polynomial benchmark year estimation method four-time benchmark year`s NWS. But the present study differs from Pyo (2003) in the details of both asset coverage and industry classification. We have used EU-KLEMS Project Guidelines to compile data on eleven capital assets including ICT capital and Intangible Assets and 72 industries for the purpose of international comparison of productivities. We have also added quarterly net stocks for the users of macroeconomic models. For the break-down of 72 industries, we have used Gross Capital Formation Matrix which are attached to Input-Output Tables by the Bank of Korea (2000)(2003). The paper also presents the estimates of Hayashi-Prescott type growth accounting model to 72 sectors in Korea.

<P>Rubber-toughened poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT)–organoclay nanocomposite (RTPTTCN) was prepared by a melt mixing technique. The rubber-toughened PTT (RTPTT) was made by blending it with ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM) and with a small amount of maleated EPDM as a compatibilizer. XRD and TEM analysis indicated that the RTPTTCN forms a partially exfoliated nanocomposite. It was observed from SEM analysis that the clay nanoparticles induced a reduction of rubber particle size in the PTT matrix. Tensile and dynamic mechanical analysis indicated that the clay nanoparticles enhance the stiffness of the RTPTT without adversely affecting its toughness. Melt rheological studies revealed that the nanocomposites exhibited strong shear thinning behavior, and a percolated network of the clay particles was formed. It was also observed from DSC that the clay nanoparticles caused an increase in the nonisothermal crystallization temperature of the PTT. POLYM. ENG. <P>All aerial parts of vascular plants are covered with cuticular waxes, which are synthesized by extensive export of intracellular lipids from epidermal cells to the surface. Although it has been suggested that plant lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) are involved in cuticular lipid transport, the in planta evidence is still not clear. In this study, a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored LTP (LTPG1) showing higher expression in epidermal peels of stems than in stems was identified from an Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) genome-wide microarray analysis. The expression of LTPG1 was observed in various tissues, including the epidermis, stem cortex, vascular bundles, mesophyll cells, root tips, pollen, and early-developing seeds. LTPG1 was found to be localized in the plasma membrane. Disruption of the LTPG1 gene caused alterations of cuticular lipid composition, but no significant changes on total wax and cutin monomer loads were seen. The largest reduction (10 mass %) in the ltpg1 mutant was observed in the C29 alkane, which is the major component of cuticular waxes in the stems and siliques. The reduced content was overcome by increases of the C29 secondary alcohols and C29 ketone wax loads. The ultrastructure analysis of ltpg1 showed a more diffuse cuticular layer structure, protrusions of the cytoplasm into the vacuole in the epidermis, and an increase of plastoglobules in the stem cortex and leaf mesophyll cells. Furthermore, the ltpg1 mutant was more susceptible to infection by the fungus Alternaria brassicicola than the wild type. Taken together, these results indicated that LTPG1 contributed either directly or indirectly to cuticular lipid accumulation.</P>
